In contrast, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News claimed on Monday that there will be no delay for the launch of the next-generation phones, signaling the usual ramp-up in the production of parts related to the iPhone beginning next month.

This doesn't necessarily contradict reports of a shortage of phones at launch. TC said it last week during the conference call: Apple didn't have adequate supply of the 7 Plus b/c it misguaged demand for that model. But the 7 Plus ramp up was right on schedule. So just because Apple's production proceeding normally with the 8 it doesn't mean there will be adequate supply at launch.

Now if we start getting reports of the quantity of parts being shipped to Foxconn for the ramp up that's usable info.

well, i just did your test without trying to think about finger positions and the results were this:
my thumb was on the power button.. my index finger was on the back of the phone.
just sayin..

Why would your thumb be on the power button? When you can activate your screen from the home button... Weird... But anyway how about Apple pay? Paying whilst being able to see the results on your screen is far better with the front screen an home button. You telling me Apple Pay would look good paying with your screen upside down? That would be awful.

I'm in for 5 iphone 8's or so at preorder while keeping one. Demand should be high. Love these short supply launches.

I really think the best place for Touch ID is in the power button. Make the button bigger and a cross section of a fingerprint the width of the edge of the phone should be enough for a fingerprint scan. It's the perfect place and seems more feasible than imbedding into the screen, reliably, somehow. Instead to unlock touch the power button (by just holding it, no special home button press for unlock), ApplePay double click the power button etc, even use as the home button with single press. Power off is still just an extra long press. Right now it's a bit under-utilised just power off, which I do rarely, and screenshots? Combine the functions and remove the home button completely say!

As usual:
- design something
- a difficult something
- debut something
- a delayed something
- distribute something
- a delimited something
- deliver something
- a delightful something
- do over something
- a dream something

But anyway how about Apple pay? Paying whilst being able to see the results on your screen is far better with the front screen an home button. You telling me Apple Pay would look good paying with your screen upside down? That would be awful.

Why would you turn the phone upside down to use ApplePay? You hold the phone in the same orientation as now, and let your finger rest on the back as it naturally does. Nothing has to change.

it's not weird.. it's natural.
the difference is that you're thinking about it with a pre-concieved / pre-conditioned notion of how it should be and i'm just thinking about it naturally.
like, humans have opposable thumbs.. this is often cited as one of our greater advantages over other species in the animal kingdom.. for my thumb to naturally end up on the side of a rectangular object when picking it up is not weird at all.. srry.

i'm not telling you anything.
just that there's absolutely zero reason to pick one side or another.. think about both. be open to changes.. that's how we progress.. just because you've seen something done one way doesn't mean it's the only way or the best way.

or don't.. more than half the population typically resists change so there's a pretty good chance you fall in this group.

Let me guess the phone has never really been delayed and will go on sale on time like every other year.

Stock hit $150 this morning btw.

So, the consensus of the analysts, speculators and bedroom photoshoppers is that the iPhone 8 design is going to be a blatant knockoff of the Samsung Galaxy S8 - even down to the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor which seems to be about the only criticism of the S8 in reviews...?

I sincerely hope and expect that Apple are "thinking different".

If not, guys, please copy the S8's headphone socket and MicroSD slot while you're at it... (flap, oink!)
have you held the s8 next to the iphone 7? with the screen off they look exactly alike. with the screen on the S8 has a slightly larger screen. Samsung once again is copying Apple (not the other way around) but using inferior internal components - Iphone's processor is faster, S8 is using last years camera, touch id is in a weird place.

this pic looks ugly and half baked.... screen edge to edge Apple stop trying to be different just for the sake of being different ......

The front of the mockup in this article is pretty much what I expect, except for maybe the dual FaceTime cameras and the display that goes too close to the edge in the corners. It's a really clean, beautiful design. I think they may pull in the corner radius a little to account for this if they are going to take it all the way down and keep the bezels thin. Otherwise the back of this new iPhone just looks ugly to me. It looks unbalanced. Maybe I'm just used to seeing the old design for so long, but when you add to the camera change the Touch ID on the rear, I really start to hate it for more than just aesthetic reasons alone. It's going to be really confusing to users to essentially have two home buttons. I mean, maybe the Touch ID will only be used for authentication, but if they can't get it in on this version I'd rather they wait until they can get it right than to ship half baked crap like this mockup—which is based on a lot of rumors—so it has a decent chance of being true. And for users who have cases, this will look even more ugly with extra cutouts on the back to accommodate these workarounds. I'll still buy the thing regardless of Touch ID location because I get every new iPhone, I'm on the iPhone Upgrade Program, and I'm interested in getting the dual-camera system in a smaller device. But it better not be annoying or I'll return it.

In other words, EVERYBODY has a guess as to when the next iPhones will be released.

Have you never used Apple Pay? You realise if the touch sensor was on the back on the phone your hand will blocking up the pay point which the back of your phone should be touching.

Forgive my macabre sense of humor but it would be interesting if people got fed up with the hassles & disappointments related to iPhone releases, boycotted this year and demand totally collapsed.

Apple has a major redesign planned for the "iPhone 8", with a glass body and edge-to-edge OLED display that may include an integrated Touch ID fingerprint sensor if the company can overcome the technical challenges involved.

Hmm, and yet Apple are on schedule for a September Launch/October Sales? Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking? The words "Touch I.D" and "Back of Phone" until Gen. 2 are coming to mind. :p
