OMG that cutout is WORSE than a (small) bezel

Of course MR people are going to complain anyway.

Doesn't have bezels => the cutout

Has bezels => the bezels

Interesting to see the reaction of people that were criticising the iPhone for having "humongous bezels", and now the iPhone will have the smallest bezels of any phone… are they buying an iPhone now?

My other thought is with an all screen front, you lose the iconic iPhone design and the glyph / outline that is used as a symbol for iPhone. Funny as since the original the front outline of the iPhone has essentially always been the same and recognizable.

haha it will never look like that.

That upper ^^^^^^^^ camera and earpiece grill cutout from display looks ugly to be honest. Other wise the Render looks fantastic.

Applesuppliers TSMC confirmed Apple had successfullyintegrated Touch ID fingerprint recognition into the OLED display. :- Macrumors Said

This will be huge win win for me. Never liked the rear touch id :D

Apple cant stay still and look at the past. This upgrade is as big as the move to 4.7 and 5.5. A move that was required.

I agree, I see no purpose for the two left overs at both sides, besides for the battery, time and connection status

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about it - I think it'll be very exciting to see. But just noting that after 10 years it'll be a significant change.

I know this is just a fantasy picture but damn if it doesn't may the "plus" model, especially, look dated. If the 8 is for real then no wonder its projected to be is short supply. Ever self-respecting plus owner is going to want to update in addition to all the 4.7" owners that want a bigger screen and better camera but not bigger footprint. This is looking like a "please take my money" phone which is why Apple will be able to ask $$$$ for it and get it.

I recall Apple having a patent for hiding the front facing camera behind the screen. I think this is what we might see - the camera will become visible when in use, and somehow blend into the display when it is not needed. No way is Apple going to make the same mistake the Essential phone did.

Camera and FPS under the glass would be a big in for apple. Something they would brag about for sure.

Not sure I get this fascination with bezel-less phones. OK, the screen is marginally bigger but at the expense of good ergonomics (handholding). Thinner bezels, sure, but not without them. And I wonder why the idea of a pure glass slab on front is considered good design now? It's just a black slab until turned on and then it's the same as before but with less bezel. I don't get the awe and amazement about it.

Found the article.

Awarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple's U.S. Patent No. 9,543,364 for "Electronic devices having displays with openings" describes a method by which various components can be mounted behind perforations in a device screen that are so small as to be imperceptible to the human eye. This arrangement would allow engineers to design a smartphone or tablet with a true edge-to-edge, or "full face," display.

The Essential phone by Android creator Andy Rubin has a cutout at the top of the screen. It has had a positive reception to the looks.

Considering the bezel on the bottom it would look nice just to lower the screen and put the camera on top.
But I have no idea on the engineering of the phone.

The back of that phone looks great without a protruding camera

That would be even bigger than embedding touchID under the display.
But I wonder if the technology is available.
