Agree. Single biggest problem with the current phones, having to have the gigantic plus models to get a 5+ inch screen.
With iPhone leading the pack, the only phone that has almost the same bezels as iPhone is the Pixel.
Long overdue design change.

Would it? The content wouldn't be past the cutout. It would still be a rectangle. They could just keep the battery and wireless indicators visible or something. Not saying I think Apple has done that, just that it doesn't seem like a disaster if they did.

Yes they could put part of the status bar but I don't think they need that space. Fullscreen apps, like games, would need it to be black, and other apps would still need a status bar with a title and maybe the close or back button that would necessary be below the cutout.

It's kind of like looking at picture frames at Target.... but a little less interesting.

That upper ^^^^^^^^ camera and earpiece grill cutout from display looks ugly to be honest.Apple will never make it like that.

In comparison with Bezel less model iPhone 7 Plus looks so bulky and outdated with those massive bezels

"Applesuppliers TSMC confirmed Apple had successfullyintegrated Touch ID fingerprint recognition into the OLED display." :- Macrumors Said

This will be huge win win for me. Never liked the idea of rear touch id :D
Never say never. We thought Apple will never put those antenna lines and protruding camera, yet...

It wouldn't surprise me if it would work something like this:

Or this:

Either something in iOS 11 changes with the status bar or maybe some new functionality will be introduced to fill up the screen parts next to the camera.

This wil not happen. The patent you are referring to is many years old and is just a theoretical solution. Just look how bad front facing cameras are right now and then try to imagine a screen in front of it. The tech is not ready for this yet. And even if it was, the screen part were the camera is would need to be able to turn transparent, so that part of the screen would be of a lower quality than the rest of the screen. It's not a solution for now or the next year sadly.

I think the first pic is exactly what we are getting. You'll have the top portion with the permanent status bar stuff and the bottom will be the function area, meaning the device can still have a 16:9 aspect ratio meaning no black bars at the top and bottom for media consumption.

Ugh. The "bunny ears" screen is almost as bad as the hole-punched renders. Very ugly and serves no real purpose.

Yeah, this is definitely the sort of solution to the I would expect to see from Apple were the next iPhone to match this render. They could even borrow complications from watchOS and have them show in that space, although it doesn't seem big enough for those.

I hope we get a sneak peak at WWDC... <--- not at all likely to happen

Want want want want.

Will replace my 7 plus. Don't care how long it will take to ship.
Love my 7 plus but just not ergonomic.

Now if they could do the same treatment to the SE. Dual camera and all.

The 4.7 form factor could just go away. Will not be missed.

Never say never :D. I never thought Apple would put a camera hump either.
If Steve Jobs were alive...uhm never mind.

Eh, all of the mock ups we've seen are no more than guesses by "artists" who know nothing about actual product design. I expect, by luck alone, one will be closer than the rest to an actual phone.

But these look unlikely. The most logical design will look something like Samsung's, with both a bottom and a top shelf.

If the touch-id can be under the display, not sure why the camera and sensors can't also be...technically speaking. Not sure about the earpiece, but they could get rid of that and force you to use bluetooth headset o_O

Most recent renders are based on the schematics that have been leaked. We know what the phone will look like besides the front camera portion. The rest is pretty clear at this point with all the leaks.

The cutout at the top looks awful, I'd rather have a slim bezel at the top if it has to have something there.

People are gonna be so pissed if/when the next iPhone ends up being just another iPhone 6 look-alike.

Please, pleeeease, let me be wrong...

When's the last time there has been this many persistent "leaks", and rumours and they all turned out to be completely wrong? Also, at this point Apple pretty much has to update their design. It is starting to look a bit stale compared to newer devices, and even the average consumer is starting to notice. No one looks at an iphone with awe and envy anymore. They still sell in the tens of millions, but I think that's mostly people buying them out of habit. Apple needs a phone that will win over new users again, and arguably, they haven't had that since the increased screen sizes with the 6 and 6+. That's the last time I heard a lot of people saying, "now I'm finally going to get an iphone!"

Why, that's just what I wanted! I bigger phone!

Why not just make the iPad Pro a cell phone and kill the whole market?

Slightly bigger than the current 6/6s/7 with a display larger than the plus models... This is pretty much the best of both worlds. If it's too big for you, that's what the SE is for. But it's become pretty clear that the market in general is fine with larger phones.

Seriously. What a missed opportunity if they don't use this to reduce the overall size of the device without needing to sacrifice any screen space. o_O

The SE is fine if they update it. I use one as my work phone, but my personal phone is a Samsung S7 Edge, because of the iPhone staleness.

Won't happen, try and photoshop location arrow in there, charging symbol, vpn.
Will never fit...

They need the space for the battery ...

No evidence just hypothetical thinking. If Apple releases the 7S with same design what are they going to call the OLED iPhone?

Beats me; I've seen all the rumored names. Thought I had missed some intel (and "Edition" seems less likely to me than any of the other rumored options, so I was surprised).
