Face recognition cannot replace the Touchid at the moment. How can the camera see you in the dark? If it 'not just works', Apple will not implement it without Touchid yet.

Infrared technology, its been around for many years.

If it's 256 at the 128 price hooray. If it's Apple trying to put the squeeze on customers it's really shameful.
Two next gen-phones: 7S, 7S+, 8, 8+.
7S and 7S+ in the same design as currently, and pries from current 7 and 7+.
8 and 8+ One price tier higher.

So yeah, they will want to milk their customers. The boom for smartphones is starting to wilt. Everybody in this market are able to see. So they start to milk the customers. There is no innovation right now, because how can you innovate in this market?

Translation: "All iPhone 5 & 6 users will start to experience constant Safari and App refreshes with forced future iOS updates just as we previously experienced with our iPhone 4 & 4S devices." Apple calls this a feature of future iOS releases.

(quote edited to fix 'Touch ID' because some people don't know how to properly format trademarks)

Yeah, remember the Note 7 had iris recognition issues in the dark;)

That's sortof what we're getting before the iPhone 8, no? If the 10.5" rumors are true. And maybe the 12.9 will follow.
Would be interesting if Apple went to a 1 phone, 1 tablet market. This year they update the 4.7/5.5" iPhones with minor hardware updates, introduce a 5.8" (in a 4.7" body) OLED iPhone with all the bells and whistles. Next year the other two screen sizes simply become legacy.

Same happens with the iPad, minor updates to the 7.9/9.7/12.9" iPads, with the 10.5" becoming the top of the line one, as the others fade into legacy mode over the next year. I figure the Mini might be the one to stick around here, also getting an updated body in the future to reduce it's footprint, so really a 1 iPhone, 2 iPad market.

I don't expect that to happen, would just be interesting.

Do you guys really believe Apple would strip away Touch ID and replace it with a security login feature which would only function in environments with sufficient light?

Some of you really do believe Apple is doomed. SMH.

Only 7 months and 5 days until release! Guess I'll have to make due with my 7 Plus until then.

(disclaimers - estimated release date, 7 Plus is already an amazing phone)

Not adding 4GB is a little disappointing. I really haven't seen anything (yet) that makes me want to upgrade my 128 GB 7 Plus, which is still the best iPhone I've ever owned.

Still not seeing any reason to purchase the upcoming device. There's very little change, unless the form factor itself is brand new. I would much rather see support for current tech that has completely fallen off Apple's radar.. like 3D touch...of course I really want a brand new IOS. The current version seems unfinished and slow.

I am staying away from it, anytime there is a drastic change in a device it is best to not be an early adopter. I just went with a 7 Plus since we switched to Verizon and I had to get new devices as the GSM 7 wouldn't work. I am very happy with the 7 Plus, and the price was really good.

Classic Apple! Force people to buy 256gb and get as much money back right away from people! $949+ for this device.

I like this approach.
The price for 256gb OLED "iPhone X" will, however, be $1249 or $1299. At $1199 it would be a bargain.

Maybe with 3GB of RAM we'll get multitasking? Even with 2 there is no issues (works fine on JB) so I imagine Apple has decided to not to include it just to make the 8 seem better

I really hope that the edges of the screen will be slightly curved edge to edge in the same contours as the 2.5D glass. I don' t want the see any bezels on the sides anymore.

That statement blows my mind

$1299? Apple has trouble increasing the price of the current iPhone models now, how in the world do you increase the price 100% if you're having issues increasing now

For a while I really thought this iPhone 8 stuff was BS & we would see it in 2018, but w/ the amount of rumors flying around this could actually happen this Fall. Very excited to see some hardware leaks

Some Apple Fanboys may not like this, since 1GB was always enough who need more? , and then 2 GB was more than enough. Who needs more?

Well I guess 3GB will be the new enough when its out.
It's not cool unless Apple does it.
This was almost 3 years ago, iphone 6 /6+ were the last iphones with 1gb. Software an apps have become more complicated since than. Why always these stabs from the past?

It's a genius model. 64gb is not enough. 256 is more than I need, sooooo why not have more than not enough, which forces me to spend the additional $$.

yup same here 128gb would be the perfect capacity for me. Those bastards know what they are doing, there's reason why they have billions and billions in cash reserves.

Very interesting to see what happens, if all of these rumours are true it will be a big upgrade in which most people will probably upgrade, hence why Apple may be starting production early because they know it's going to sell very well. Better start being prepared for the Apple website to sell out really fast with dispatch dates quickly slipping to 4-6 weeks.

It's most likely Apple trying to put the squeeze on customers. They already did this before by offering the iPhone 6 in 16, 64, and 128GB models. Everyone who went for the 64GB model were pushed into the 128 or 256GB models on the iPhone 7 since there was no 64GB model offered and your only other option would be to downgrade to the 32GB option. It would not be surprising if they did this once again to push all of the 128 adopters of the iPhone 7 to the 256. Of course, we are only speculating at this point anyways right?
