It's most likely Apple trying to put the squeeze on customers. They already did this before by offering the iPhone 6 in 16, 64, and 128GB models. Everyone who went for the 64GB model were pushed into the 128 or 256GB models on the iPhone 7 since there was no 64GB model offered and your only other option would be to downgrade to the 32GB option. It would not be surprising if they did this once again to push all of the 128 adopters of the iPhone 7 to the 256. Of course, we are only speculating at this point anyways right?

They put the iPhone 7 at 32, 128 and 256 sizes - and at the same price points that the 6s were at 16, 64 and 128.

What on Earth are you talking about?
If you're saying iPhones are 'under spec', you couldn't be more wrong.
No, sooo excited they are on par (again...) and oohh man, we might get rid of bezels in due course..
just incredible what 10Billion (or was it 12?) on R&D can accomplish

with the prices increasing every year, it's natural that people will hold on to their iphones longer, causing more fragmentation, forced software updates will not be enough to convince people to upgrade.
i am a light user, using a iP5 with iOS9. at times i wish i could take better pictures, but eh, i might as well buy a proper camera with that money.

I'm still on the 6. Apple has fully killed my desire to upgrade every year or two anymore. Now they're just "meh". Another phone.

Well, sorry, the version with the flamethower never made it out of prototype. What exactly do you need to excite you? Another gig of RAM?

I find it hard to believe that Apple will literally deliver on everything the rumor-mill has come up with.

New Sizes
Edge to edge display
no home button
3D camera
OLED
3GB of RAM
new overall design

Just seems like only half of this stuff is possible YoY for innovation's sake. If they do all of this stuff, what will next year's iPhone get?

Wow, Apple chose usability over design regarding the display! Thumbs up!
I just hope the smaller ones are not crippled too much.

Can you image a $1000 phone (according to rumours) with only 64GB of storage? That would be mental, even for Apple

No, sooo excited they are on par (again...) and oohh, we might get rid of bezels...

On par? They have double the CPU of the nearest competitor, with half the cores, nearly half the clockspeed, and half the RAM. The iPhone 6S had double the NAND read/write performance of the nearest competitor, whilst the iPhone 7 nearly tripled that. This is an in-house design, in-house CPU, in-house OS... not to mention the best aftersales support.

And if all you consider to be 'innovation' is a device without bezels, well that'll inevitably be in the pipeline, along with removing the home button (the IP7 is the first step towards that).

So what do you honestly think would be more likely to happen in the next few years: Apple releases a phone that gets rid of a few bezels, or the nearest competitor gets anywhere close to hardware performance, running an OS that isn't a resource-hungry dog?

Apple have done all of the hard work. The next step is just a few aesthetic changes, then all the self-gratifying whiners around here will be appeased.

I have a 7 plus and 3gb of ram is nice, but I often find myself switching to a laptop because my phone can't handle certain websites. I think 4gb of ram would've been better, most phones have it.

Yea like wth, if this is 3gb of ram I will pass on this. I have the 7 plus as well and it constantly reloads apps and pages with just a few open. What a shame.

1000+ would be for the big version, of the more advanced larger phone. It COULD be over 1000$ the rumor said, not that it would be. God I swear some of the folks on this website are dull as dog droppings sometimes.

$849 64 GB.

$949 256 GB.

Should be $849 for 128 and 949 for 256 but Apple doesn't do things like that. Instead of dropping the low model they can effectively drop the low and middle models. Eliminating the middle is so funny.

Thankfully with streaming and other options in the cloud this strategy can not be continued in perpetuity. 64 is a tad small but when it gets to be 128 standard the fun and games are over on this. 256 is way too much for most people.

No they won't be. Apple doesn't innovate anymore, didn't you hear that from these collective heads of knuckle? They do more with less, and they whine because its less!

There's so much smoke when it comes to the rumours for this iPhone '8' that I'm really starting to wonder what the fire will look like. Should be quite interesting.

This. I've just about given up on trying to make an educated guess of what it will look like/features it will have.

Most phones runs Android. iOS is more efficiënt with RAM. What adult websites are you trying to load?
Adult websites? Just try going to some other tech magazine sites or general news sites. Android Central is a chief offender that chokes my iPad quite often. Even with ad blockers, things can bog down somehow. Especially if you're on a site trying to read comments that post via Disqus (or however it's spelled).

Yep, like when Apple made a phone IP67 rated? The toilet brushes here blubbed that water damage isn't covered under warranty.

Never will you find a more petulant hive.

These days in the tech world you bide your time one year at a time. This is last year's phone that wasn't ready for prime time anyway.

We need camera module intel. If the camera isn't at least as good as that of the 7 Plus then it's a FAIL.

Fixed it.

They are taking the sweet spot away. It is actually pretty clever. I could live on 64 GB no problem but would have to be careful. my current iPhone has 128 and isn't nearly full. It is a good strategy and will be met with a great deal of success when Apple sells top end phones or complements the others with iCloud and streaming services.

Tim Cook is actually a genius.
