Not adding 4GB is a little disappointing. I really haven't seen anything (yet) that makes me want to upgrade my 128 GB 7 Plus, which is still the best iPhone I've ever owned.

If you know how iOS on iPhone works, why 4GB instead of 3GB?

If Apple made it 4GB, would you cry for 5 or 6GB?

Point being, with iOS & iPhone, the need for RAM is not the same as it is with Android equivalents. One system (iOS) is hardware optimised, the other (Android) is a mess, and bloated by OEMs.

Face recognition cannot replace the Touchid at the moment. How can the camera see you in the dark? If it 'not just works', Apple will not implement it without Touchid yet.

These camera's "See in the dark" by using the Infrared spectrum of light to do their work. it is not done via our own eye's limited spectrum of light sensitivity.

Remember, our eyes do not see the entire spectrum of light and energy. But we (Human Kind) have invented cameras that can.

I just had my first "so what will happen with iPads after the iPhone 8?" thought. A giant slab that's one giant screen will be pretty neat. Very excited for all of this.
My current & only iPad is the Mini 2. Not buying another until this happens

OMG, Congrats to everybody !!
This must mean that Big Phil the spec-saver has been bashed from the company...!
The guy who vigorously saved Apple from climbing up the gigabyte/megapixel ladder, because it "didn't need that", because of "iOS optimizations", and "internal efficiency", and related craptalk of the sincere kind I never believed for a decade or so.

I was always the person who had a new phone every few months from probably 2005 until last year. I can confidently say I do not see myself buying a new phone for several years unless something ridiculous changes with battery life. What is 3GB going to do on an IOS devices that 2 cannot?

I'm laughing at all these people ready to open their wallets for whatever absurd price Apple pick out of the air for this fabled device - which will be a let down, money grabbing scheme anyway. People need to become better, wiser consumers. Stop justifying Apple's s**t.

That 3GB is low-end for upcoming premium mobile devices:

For instance the new revolutionary Surface Pocket later this year...

Cost: $699 - $1,100 Three variants, Snapdragon 835 CPU, 5.7-inch display
  • Version 1: 3GB RAM / 32GB storage
  • Version 2: 6GB RAM / 128GB storage
  • Version 3: 8GB RAM / 500GB storage
Yes it is designed to make calls as 835 has LTE

Don't think so, the 6s/7 Plus already has 3GB of RAM and this new 8 model will actually have an active display in the same size area as the Plus....so nothing has changed.

Doesn't matter though, this isn't an Android.

FWIW, my prediction:

29/June/2017 Apple will launch the 3 new iPhones:

a) iPhone X or "Ten anniversary edition"; in the rumours called as iPhone 8 (one size, black as the original one)
b) iPhone 7s and 7+s: As every year, the iPhone with processor, camera and minor hardware improvements

September 2018: iPhone 8: The 10 anniversary edition benefits, plus minor hardware improvements on two screen sizes 5.8in (in a current 4.7 device size) and 6.7in (in a current 5.5 device size)

Why?
Apple is a "sentimental" company and 10 years ago the company changed its focus and became very very successful
Apple has proven that is successful to have 2 screen options.
The cycle of the "S" has proven to deliver results, it gives "news" to the market" and it delays their innovation cycle for a year (or more). We still buy them.

Let's see how it goes

My 2 cents.

MR up in arms about something that won't be announced for over 6 months and won't likely fall in line with this rumor.

6S Plus has 2GB of ram.

But people have been overall pleased with the iPhone every year for 10 years. Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume this new iPhone will be great? The A11 and the more efficient use of screen & phone size are enough for me !

If it's 256 at the 128 price hooray. If it's Apple trying to put the squeeze on customers it's really shameful.

Come on now when has Apple never been known to squeeze people over trivial things like storage? What on earth makes you think they would do so now?

It's a genius model. 64gb is not enough. 256 is more than I need, sooooo why not have more than not enough, which forces me to spend the additional $$.

completely agree on that. It also gets rid of the complaints about introducing anything with 32 GB. Killing the 128 GB is brilliant. I had never even considered they would do something like this.

You don't seem to understand that this will only push people to the top model. It should be 128 and 256. 64 no longer has a place.

What on Earth are you talking about?

If you're saying iPhones are 'under spec', you couldn't be more wrong.

I have a 7 plus and 3gb of ram is nice, but I often find myself switching to a laptop because my phone can't handle certain websites. I think 4gb of ram would've been better, most phones have it.
Funny, my 7 with 2 gigs of ram and my iPad Air with 2 gigs of ram handle everything I throw at them fine. If websites aren't working for you it's probably a site issue or content blocker problem. iOS handles ram very well 4gigs would be nice future proofing but you wouldn't notice any difference with it now.

I signed up for Apple's monthly payment plan that allows an exchange to a new phone every year. Guess I'm already justifying their s**t and happy to do it. Laugh it up, fuzzball, I care not
