I've been holding on to my limping iPhone 6, and every one of these reports pushes me closer to replacing it with something non-iPhone. Apple seems to be focusing more and more on gimmicks they call improvements, but each one is just another reason for me to ditch them. Their version of innovation has shifted to dreaming up more innovative ways to pull money from my pockets. Give me something to work with here guys, or I'm jumping ship.

The loosely-translated report suggests the wireless charging will not be a built-in feature, but rather a separate accessory based on technology from Luxshare, a Chinese company that has been rumored to be a supplier of wireless charging coils for the inductive Apple Watch charger in the past.

In a move that'll surprise all, Apple will provide instructions on how to disassemble the iPhone 8, install the wireless charging module, and maybe even upgrade the RAM.

maybe they will get rid of the lightning port all together and then we will need to buy multiple even more expensive magnetic charging cords. Doubtful that they will make it work with the watch charging cord either

They are trying their hardest to make people mad.

1. Adopting a gimmick charging system years after everyone else.
2. Not being able to plug the phone in to a new MacBook Pro out of the box.

Two points about your second point.

1) Most people don't yet own the new MacBook Pro.
2) I can't remember the last time I plugged my iPhone in to my Mac. Multiple years ago is probably the answer.

iPhones already cost around £900. If they are releasing three models, the two based on the design we already have would be for people who wouldn't want to spend £1000+ on the premium model which'd include a brand new design.

Yeah sorry I meant only one would have glass casing. Seems like they're trying to get every last penny out of us, not that I'm surprised.

I have enough cables collected over the years, I can charge at work, in the car, and a few different rooms in my house. I wonder how much apple will charge for this new wireless charging "system"? It doesn't pay to annoy your customers when they have a lot more options than they did a decade ago.

no, it wont be the same "wireless" charging that everyone else has done in the android world. it's not compelling enough

last time i plugged in a phone to my macbook was when i had an iphone 5

I'd be surprised and a bit dismayed if the "new" iPhone did not include USB-C charging port and needed hardware to support it. I.E. a USB-C to USB-C charging cord and a USB-C charging block similar to the current USB-A charging block. Especially if the $1000+ rumors are to be true. USB-C is the future and Apple obviously has adopted it in ALL it's new laptops. rMacBook and the new MacBook Pro. No other inputs except a standard headphone jack.

It's not a huge deal to not include the cable, but it's just so stupid. Why does Apple do stuff like this? And yes, I'm a "hater" and I'll eventually praise the cable add-on as the most innovative brilliant decision of all time, but I 'm not seeing it right now. I thought the point of USB-C was to "force" everyone to adopt, but not including the cable makes USB-C seem like an afterthought.

I'll wait to find out what they actually do, however.

.

Even if they did, they've already dropped $2k or more on an Iphone 8 and Macbook Pro, Apple is sensing they'll have no financial burden to pay a nominal price for a dongle.

But the inclusion of a Lightning to USB-A Cable, rather than a Lightning to USB-C Cable, makes less sense given Apple's port future.

Is this supposed to be a serious statement??

Apple sells 200 million iPhones per year and a handful of Mac's with USB-C ports.

There is positively zero good reason to move away from USB-A to Lightning included in the box.

I've thought this for a couple years... with all of the money being invested in wireless charging, audio, video, and the like I'm fairly certain Apple's end game is no ports on anything. 100% wireless.

I fancy a 5" phone, 5.5' is too big, not interested in USB-C as I don't have a single device or charger that supports it, induction charging would be simpler than trying plug the phone into a cable in the dark

Upset about them not supplying a 3.5mm convertor cable in the box, after paying over 1000 for the phone, I wouldn't be able to pony up for a dongle

I agree with five-years-ago Phil. If wireless requires a pad, I don't see the point.
Well I don't agree ,,,i hate fumbling arround at night in bed ,,to find that little hole on the side trough my case , and same for iphone ,i have a case and to aim directly in line with my stand is a pain in the a..

Wife has same problem
