Goodness. Just get rid of Lightning and use USB-C instead, and include the cable in box. It's the simple, straightforward solution for everything.
And no one wants fake wireless charging anyway. Such a gimmick.

If inductive charge/sync replaces lightning on iPhone, it will likely come with a cable charger like the AW. A pad won't be the default method of charging, but simply another option. Inductive charging is more convenient than a traditional plug, opens up more options for charging methods (cable, stand, mount, pad), and possibly aids in waterproofing. Is it truly wireless? No. But I think after the Watch, Apple realized the advantages inductive has over a plug. I'm hoping anyway.

Mark my words, the £1000 you are paying will be justified by passing off the new type of useless charger you have that is plugged into the wall and not a 'wireless' charger.

What a ripp off - i'd rather spend the extra 1.5 seconds to plug my phone in rather than putting it on a limited, expensive charging matt

No one should be shocked, Tim cooks apple will give you the minimum at a premium price. Expect the iPhone 8 price to go up. Tim's strategy to keep profits up while sales drop is to increase prices and make money up in accessories, clever strategy and he is succeeding .

I would update every generation , have every iPhone, always top spec, Tim lost me at the iPhone 7 which is effectively a iPhone 6SS and the price with AppleCare was £1000+ , sorry just not worth it, the iPhone 8 will be more.

The Samsung S7 is almost 1/2.... :( I own the Samsung S7 batman edition and while I prefer my iPhone, I am no longer going to pay over £1000 for a phone.... yes I can afford it, but poor value for money.

Anyway the 6S will last a few more years, has AppleCare and I just am not seeing value for money anymore. My apple gear has me sorted for next 5 years, I just have to avoid iOS upgrades which will slow is Down.

There's no reason to continue to use the propriety Lightning connector besides charging cable a fee to make aftermarket cables. USB-C is currently the industry standard, just use it Apple!

Also, I still don't understand why it was necessary to remove the headphone jack. Again, just seems like an excuse to make profit from charging headphone companies a fee to use their lightning cable.

Can we have a new CEO please?

They are trying their hardest to make people mad.

1. Adopting a gimmick charging system years after everyone else.
2. Not being able to plug the phone in to a new MacBook Pro out of the box.
I’m going to suggest that Tim Cook knows exactly, and I do mean exactly, what Apple can get away with. He knows precisely the right degree to which he can upset people and still make them buy his products.

The reason I'm in the Apple ecosystem is because everything works together. I'm not buying the new Macbook Pro and iPhone 7 or higher if:
1) I can't connect them
2) Cannot use the same headphones on both devices without dongles

It's not rocket science, Apple.

I don't really care about wireless charging one way or the other, but I still use traditional wired headphones. The lack of a headphone jack is still an inconvenience in my opinion, and if the phone doesn't at least come with an adapter like the 7 does, that's even worse!

Pretty obvious that for 2017 we are looking at a 7s and 7s Plus with updated specs and the same design, maybe a new colour...gloss white instead of jet black perhaps. Then a new line of iPhones called 'iPhone Pro' with OLED etc etc which starts with 5.8 model this year. Possibly could have pencil support, smart connector etc etc (all the rumoured things that were due for a iPhone 7 pro last year but then dropped).

This is not wireless charging. More like MagSafe...which I still love even though Apple thinks I shouldn't.

So yeah happy to see MagSafe return!

I agree with five-years-ago Phil. If wireless requires a pad, I don't see the point.

they'll definitely need a moniker commanding the price tag, and SE doesn't seem to cut it given that is currently tagged onto a smaller, cheaper option.

Okay, then how about this? Introducing the all new magical iPhone X$. They could also make a pun by releasing the iPhone M$. It costs a thousand bucks and M$ also envokes Microsoft.

They should include a Lightning to USB C cord with every new Macbook. This will mean that they aren't losing money from bundling it with every single iPhone (most of which are owned by PC users), and everyone who buys a new Apple MB with only USB-C will be able to sync/charge their phone. Easy solution.

Currently using an iPhone 6+ and an iPhone 7. Not in need of an upgrade / replacement in the near future. Not interested in a new iPhone (or iPad for that matter) that does not have USB-C instead of Lightning, personally. I also expect Apple to not care one iota about my opinion. I'll hang on to my current devices, unless they go USB-C then I'll upgrade faster. YMMV.

Tim Cook does seem to have an uncanny sense of just how much we can bleed. That is his job after all.
