Why fix something that isn’t broke? The 6 to 8 iPhone size is a great design.

The 4 to 5 with the angular edges and the glass back of 4 have the best design ever. I hate the rounded, slippery surface of 6-8. The only good thing I was happy with the 8 is it introduced the glass back just like 4.

It's really not about low effort. People want a more affordable iPhone to purchase.

It is quite a low effort.
And going by your logic, if they would launch a phone with the iphone 3G design it would be even cheaper?

Retooling factories costs money. Getting teams to sit and redesign a product costs money. If they pump R&D into a new design it isn't going to be affordable.
The choice? Buy it or don't. 🤷🏽‍♂️
I was just suggesting to shrink a little those huge 2010 bezels, so not something extraordinary that could make the phone not be affordable like you are suggesting(and exaggerating).
Even if it's a budget oriented device it can also look modern, it's something that should just be excluded.

It's going to be the worst sales model with old design, low spec, no OLED. STUPID APPLE!

It's a low priced iPhone...

You'd be surprised how many people don't care that it has an "old design" or no OLED. Apple enthusiasts (ie. anyone who regularly reads and posts on this site) are out of touch with the average consumer. It might even be possible that Apple, the trillion dollar company, has access to a bit more market research than you do? ;)

I’m sure there are plenty of people who just need to buy a phone right now.

Well it does matter here. If someone buys a screen protector for their SE and it’s .7” too big because both phones have the same name, then that’s a problem.

It will likely be called the iPhone SE (2020)

I'm an enthusiast and I really don't care about OLED. There were other factors to tempt me with the iPhone Pro (being slightly smaller, HDR, the telephoto lens), but OLED wasn't really among them. Yeah, its contrast is really nice when playing video. Other than that, I don't care. Most people don't care. Almost everyone in the market for an SE-class iPhone definitely doesn't care.

As this "small" phone is still unwieldily large compared to the original SE, that's completely missing the point.

The point is... NO ONE is making "small" phones anymore. Including Apple.

But Apple still makes a phone smaller than everyone else. And that's what my image was demonstrating.

Look... Apple will never make a 4" phone again. Period. The old SE is gone... discontinued 18 months ago.

So... will you never buy a new phone ever again? :p

Be glad you're an iPhone user. At least Apple kept "small" phones on the market longer than anyone else.

Android users haven't been able to buy "small" phones since 2012 or so!

Look... Apple will never make a 4" phone again.

Careful on saying "never"...

And beyond that, to most SE fans (like myself), just anything physically smaller than the iPhone 8 size would be welcome and not out of the realm of possibility at all, particularly in a model that nukes the bezels

Meh... I'm not worried.

If Apple makes a tiny phone again... I'll be wrong... and you'll be happy to get your perfect phone.

But I really, really, really don't think that's gonna happen, man.

;)

Again, who said "tiny" is needed?

Literally anything physically smaller than an iPhone 8 would satisfy most of us looking for something to go to after our current SE's

Well it's not happening in this cycle. Sorry. All rumors are pointing to a phone that is the same size as the iPhone 8.

And do you really think Apple would make another new phone sized somewhere between the old SE and 8? And one that is supposed to be their budget/entry model?

Apple already has three phones at the top of their lineup. That's where there main focus is.

I don't think they will be spending time or money creating a new form-factor for the bottom of their lineup. This is evidenced by the fact that they tend to "recycle" older designs. Quite often actually. And since they're not using the old SE as the basis for this new phone... that's why they're sticking the only other available design (8/8 Plus)

I hear you... you want a phone physically smaller than the iPhone 8. Message received.

But you will probably be disappointed. And you need to prepare for that. ;)

Lots of supposition and speculation there...anyhow

Let's move on - No need to respond to me anymore on this.
Cheers

So what happened? Are we now back to April 15th 2020? We are in unpredictable times. No one should be surprised if Apple likely discontinues any product launches and events for the rest of the year. Mega Millions and PowerBall are considering suspending lotteries or lowering jackpots significantly because so many people are not buying and lottery outlets are not open. This is not a great time to be selling products.

That's Outrageous. Which is why humanity failed if a company like Apple operate by idiots falsely assumed the customer doesn't care.
