Hmm, so we complain about the bezels but apple has kept those because of Touch ID. Now they are reducing the bezel sizes but Touch ID may end up in the back.

We will never be satisfied. Lol.

Anyhow, since seeing this schematic, I've been imagining having Touch ID on the back and unlocking the phone using my index finger. It's awkward at first, but with the help of haptic feedback, it probably will be a smooth transition. For the sake of design, i do think Apple would be better off using the apple logo as the Touch ID reader.

But let's hope that Apple has something better in store than what we are seeing these days.

When thinking about I actually pull my phone our from my pocket. Having the fingerprint sensor on the rear doesn't bother me too much. I kind of like the idea of knowing that when I pull the phone out the phone is active and I don't have to start with the thumbprint technic. I just hope the sensor is big enough to hit the mark.

It would be funny if the hole was for wireless charging this whole time. No pun intended there.

Not sure how I feel about this. Why can't they just delay it and embed it under the screen? Anyway, just like all of you saying you won't buy it, you will, and it will, yet again, break records.

Glad they are moving touch ID out of the home button, was a nice idea but bad in practice since it made it more difficult to remember to use a different finger to view the lock screen.

Given this looks like a 5 then it must be the SE, not the 8. And the new SE is imminent so leaks are likely.

I just don't get the position of the fingerprint reader in the exact middle of the device. It just looks so odd.

Not to mention that fugly vertical camera hole...geez! Is this what's Apple left to do as "innovation"? Making changes for the sake of changes and market it as "best iPhone we've ever made until the next one (customary applause)" is just downright sad. Back away from whatever you're smoking Jony!

Contorting your hands and feeling around for the fingerprint sensor whenever you want to unlock your phone sounds easy to you?

No, it doesn't. But if this rumor proves accurate, there would be an adjustment period like other iPhone changes over the year . But over time, feedback will surface how some actually like the placement on the back or it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. I think experience first hand with this may change some iPhone users thoughts. Perhaps it may not be a horrible implementation depending on the person. I'm interested in trying it if it happens.

honestly i don't think it would be a huge adjustment

when we pick up our phones where is our finger normally? right near the middle. it will only be a issue for those who like to unlock from a table or desk e.t.c and thats where we can use iris scanning most likely.

will it be better under the screen? yes but if it's in the middle thats not a massive problem. if it's where samsung have put theirs? yes now that would be bad

back fingerprint sensor isn't a bad idea. But I think Apple's designer's are missing a massive opportunity here if that's how it ends up

lower the Apple logo a bit, and Make it a Touch ID so that there's no need for a seperate "dimple" or blemish on the back

and while at it, put a LED ring around the Apple LED that can be used as notification light or even light up when you unlock the phone in a cool little glow affect

just throwing another circle touch ID there is "run of the mill" at this point and isn't very creative

Keeping my iPhone 6 Plus for another year i guess... No buying a phone with a touch id on the back.. If i liked that i would had gotten a blu long time ago or the new S8...

The more I think about the Touch ID placement, I sincerely believe it will be placed on the back of The iPhone casing for 2017. The embedded Touch ID in the display seems it will be another year. I actually welcome the change, partially because I am ready for something different And refreshed from where the design of the iPhone is currently.

What I do wonder, is Touch ID remapped for all the newly rumored iPhone versions (4.7/5.5/5.8) this September or just the 5.8 OLED version. That should be interesting on its own how this plays out.

This is silly. 9to5mac posted this like it was an actual leak of a component and then back tracked when someone told them it was an obvious render.

Besides, the schematics that it's based on was probably fake, as pointed out by OnLeaks on Twitter. They pointed out many features on the purported back shell that were in the exact same place as on the iPhone 7 plus shell. One thing was the square boss/pocket that would house the camera flash unit on the 7 plus still exists in the same place on the purported iPhone 8 shell schematic, while the hole for a camera flash below the vertical camera cutout on the "leak" is just a whole, with no support built in to the shell. They pointed out many other fastener points on the shell that were the same as the 7 plus, making it seem like someone altered a 7 plus shell with an extra hole or two and the flat sides of a 5/SE frame.

Could they still put Touch ID on the back of an aluminum shell? Sure, but it would probably look more like an iPhone 7 shell.

I don't know if Apple will go with all round metal casing for 8 because this is going to prevent wireless charging from working properly. I think glass back is much more likely at this point.

I really don't see Apple putting the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. It has always seemed like a compromise to me when the other companies did it, and not at all user friendly. Would also completely ruin the market for cases and lead to far more damaged phones.

If it actually makes it onto the device, I will be highly disappointed.
