I agree with others in that this may possibly be what Apple is doing for the iPhone 7S.

Think about it. Aesthetically speaking, Apple would probably want both the 7S and the Edition to look similar from the front side. But due to supply constraints, if they could only embed TouchID into the screen for the Edition they might then move the Home button to the back for the 7S, so that both lines have a full frontal screen.

That and the 5S-esque design seems more to me like it would be made for the 7S.
I agree on that. Could be the next 7s plus.

What is the point of inductive charging? Not that that's what it is, clearly.
When drunk, putting the phone on the charging area is easier than having to precisely aim for that Lightning Socket. Other than that, inductive charging is overrated. Generally, wireless charging is inefficient and causing a lot of radiation (electromagnetic fields) compared to a 5V DC cable.

If this is real looks like I'm going to android phone for the first time ever . I was holding out for the iPhone 8 I'm still using a iPhone 6 Plus but I'm not liking what I'm seeing so far I hope this is just a Chinese knock off of what they think it will look like .

It's funny that little hole is about the size of charging thing on the Apple Watch.... But I'd guess this is a fingerprint scanner (hey at least its not up on the side of the camera like the S8). And I want wireless, not inductive charging (may as well just keep the charging like it is in that case).

Can't see this happening, actually. Apple should just delay the anniversary iPhone till next year when they can get things right or skip it entirely. Even if the prices were the same I'd go for the conventional 7s with the fingerprint sensor on the front instead of a bezel-less design with the scanner on the back.

Eh? Maybe because when you're holding your phone normally it's exactly where your index finger is resting?! Or maybe you like the Samsung Galaxy S8 variant more where have to cripple your hand to reach the sensor.
If they can't get the sensor beneath the display that place in the lower middle of the back is the only acceptable one left.

There are plenty of situations where you don't want to pick your phone up though. Sometimes you just want to see the time or check for notifications. Sometimes youve got flour all over you hands.

I assume everyone just looked at iphone 7 and 7plus dimentions (length and width) and took avg as legnth and width for this phone renderings..

Touch ID will be placed at the back if Apple chooses form over function before the technology is ready to put the scanner inside the display. If they put it at the back this year, I'll just buy the next iPhone or the one after that. As soon as they make Touch ID right, I'm on board.

Fingerprint is dying technology like firewire. It gets moved to the back then eventually dropped. It's more ergonomic in the back anyway for things like Apple Pay since you have a more secure grip of the phone to prevent dropping than pinching the end. That's one of the factors for low Apple Pay adoption since people don't want to risk dropping an $800 phone when they can just use their plastic.

AHAHAHAHAHA hahAHAHAHAHAHAA hahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!

Nice render though :)

What about a finger print sensor on the Apple logo??? That would make absolute sense!

Multiple design renders of Apple's much-rumored 5.8-inch OLED iPhone have surfaced over the course of the last two weeks, giving us our first look at what the device might look like.

Apple is testing multiple prototypes so we have seen several designs, but two of them have focused on a device with an aluminum frame, a vertical dual-lens camera, and a mysterious hole on the back below the Apple logo.

Now a third render has popped up featuring the same general design, but this time, it's a render of a full rear casing, which provides a clearer look at what the "iPhone 8" might look like at launch, should this be the design Apple chooses to use.

Created by Instagram user bro.king, the renderings are directly based on the previously leaked design schematics.

The rendered shell is made from silver aluminum, with a squared design that's highly reminiscent of the iPhone 5 family rather than the smoother curves of more recent iPhone models. Size details are not included, but the design schematics it's likely based on suggested the device measures in at 149.5mm tall by 72.5mm wide, which is slightly larger than the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 at 138.3mm by 67.1mm.

In line with multiple rumors, it features a vertical dual-lens camera which Apple is said to be implementing to introduce better picture quality and perhaps augmented reality functionality, and most notably, there's a circular cutout on the back.

Rumors have suggested that this is for a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and this is perhaps the prototype Apple will use if it can't reliably integrate Touch ID under the display of the iPhone 8, but there's also the possibility that the cutout is for an inductive wireless charging module.

Apple is rumored to be implementing wireless charging in the iPhone 8, and the latest information on the matter has suggested Apple will use an inductive charging solution rather than long-range wireless charging technology, which is not yet reliable enough.

As mentioned above, Apple is allegedly testing up to 10 OLED iPhone prototypes, so this isn't necessarily the finished product that we're going to see in September. We have also seen a design prototype featuring a device with a glass body, a 4mm bezel and an edge-to-edge display, along with no visible Touch ID sensor.

We're getting closer to the point when Apple will need to start finalizing a design, so we may soon see part leaks that give us a better idea of the direction the company decided to go in.

They could use the Apple logo hole, but that would be too slick for modern Apple. I have my phone locked and on my desk most of the day like millions of other people, picking it up to use the sensor on the back is a needless annoyance.

It goes so show if someone can make this, then someone can easily fabricate the drawings.

so you would leave apple to go android to a phone that also likely has the FP scanner on the back?
