It will be hell difficult to maintain that shiny back.

Edit:- added pictures

Apple tend to make products that only really look good in the promotional images, but then terrible in real life due to finger prints and scratches...which they seem to design products to be magnets for.

I hope they do a all white like the iPhone 4S I think the iPhone looks absolutely stunning in all white.

But a bezel free iPhone looks better in black, at least on the front. I currently own a white iPhone 6s, my iPhone 5 was white but they had big bezels.
They made a mistake with iPhone 5C by using only a black front, even for the white model. A completely white iPhone 5C would have been stunning.

Apple could make its upcoming OLED iPhone available in four different shades, including a new "mirror-like" reflective version not seen before in previous models.

If the rumors about the return of the all-glass back are true, this wouldn't be "mirror-like." It'd be an actual mirror.

Of course, depositing a shiny, metallic coating on the backside of the glass might defeat the purpose of the glass back - added electromagnetic shielding, instead of EM transparency.

Liquidmetal possibility?

Unlike the Terminator movies, in real life "Liquid Metal" is just a cool marketing name referring to its plastic like molding abilities. But who would get excited over a name like "plastic metal"? ;)

After casting, it usually looks more like satin pewter, and is often left that way, to take best advantage of its bend, dent and scratch resistance properties. (Samsung used it for years in phone hinges and bezels.)

It's also expensive. Both Vertu and Samsung made a luxury phone frame out of Liquid Metal before Apple grabbed up the sole rights to consumer electronics. Vertu's was $10,000. I think even Samsung's inexpensive non-3G version was $1500+. (Vertu has since switched to using titanium.)

2008 Samsung Ego (Liquid Metal frame)

Sure, Apple could also sell a high priced model using it. And even polish it to a mirror shine, although that would negate the scratch resistance, which is a major reason to use it.

These predictions are getting lame. So, there's an entire article on, "mirror like finish".
The RED HYDROGEN ONE has better steam then.

If it's made of Glass (iPhone 8 rumours) then it automatically has a mirror finish. What's the logic? Analysts Going Crazy? We had iPhone 4/4s before.

Yes, I'm a little sceptical about this rumour too.

If the iPhone 8 is to be a glass sandwich design, then I wouldn't be surprised to see it go back to 2 colours - one in all black and the other white with a black screen (sort of storm trooper colours).

isn't this just the guy making some mockup illustrations? So many 'coulds' 'ifs' and 'mays' that my head hasn't stopped spinning yet.

Reading a biography (by Karen Blumenthal) about Steve today on a flight home, there was a section mentioned about the back of the iPod's with their silver finish...

"I think stainless steel looks beautiful when it wears. I mean, I'm going to be fifty next year, so I'm like a scratched-up iPod myself." - Steve Jobs.

I wouldn't mind either way to be honest. Still plan on getting a Jet Black iPhone 7 for the collection. Either way, not a new idea. Store one away if you're worried about scratching it. Otherwise slap on a case, or choose a different colour.

Anyone who owned one of those original iPods knows that the mirrored finish is not a good idea..
It won't matter. There are plenty that want to show off their new 'shiny-shiny' toy. In some people's eyes always having the latest bit of techno-bling is apparently cool.
Just remember the story of the "Emperors new clothes".
Shiny will be the new Black (matte of course)

I'm actually thinking scratches would be worse than fingerprints on this. Even a tiny scratch would show really badly on this kind of surface. I understand it might be built into the glass or something, so not just a surface coating, but still. I'd like one but I'm afraid. lol.
