The mirror option is for women. Palm's ex marketing is taking over. http://allthingsd.com/20090715/palm-pre-commercial-keeps-mirroring-the-ladies/

It has a mirror on the back. Remember, there has never been a smart phone designed for the needs of women before.

No, I am saying if you have the opportunity to stick a mirror on here, why wouldn’t you do it? If you are making it for 25- to 40-year-old nerds, you would have put a black thing back here. But we are sitting here going, “Look, it costs nothing. Why don’t we do it because you know what, people actually do need mirrors from time to time.”

I came here to post this.

Haven't you heard? There is no Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the new 'Mirror-like' iPhone, but it will include a fingerprint magnet.

That's innovation. Eject the fingerprint sensor- perhaps use a word like "courageous" to help sell the idea. Add a mirror reflective back and now we can use our own eyes to confirm our fingerprints: A) put fingerprint on mirror body B) recognize that we are indeed ourselves C) punch in a 4 or 6-digit code to confirm the fingerprint. Perhaps spin it as a new bio-optical 2-stage authentication? Once our corporate God lays down any such "newness", we will then gush at it's brilliance and activate the "shut up and take our money" chorus... even whining that we got up at 3am to order and the incredible mirrored-back, bio-optical authentication, super (my life will be complete with this) phone is delayed 4-6 weeks.;)

Oh common, most people don't have such greasy fingers so it won't end up like that.

So once again, deflect any blame for any issues away from Apple and to anyone else? In this case, the user is wrong? What is it...
  • Your bodily oil production is wrong?
  • Your greasing it wrong?
  • Your oiling it wrong?
  • oil-gate/grease-gate?
Anyone who bought the early iPods with chrome backs knows that fingerprints (and visible scratches) are inevitable. Blaming the user by faulting fundamental human functions is really pushing the (proactive) defense.

nah, I think my black 'n white iPhone 6 looks pretty stunning with an all-black front and an all-white back:

This is very similar to what I think white iPhone 8 colour scheme will look like - albeit with a glass back and steel banded frame.

The same can be said of any product produced by any company. Example: Have you ever seen a "Big Mac" that looks like the one pictured on the billboards?

No, I know that. But what I'm saying is it seems like Apple design products that could only look good in the pristine condition they're seen in, in promotional material.

It will end up being covered by a case, they could make it brown and I wouldn't care.

Same here. If one shells out almost $ 1,000, a few bucks more for a case should not be an issue.
Learning the hard way with my first iPhone and never been without a case since. To care about color
other than what gets dirty the least is funny.

BTW: Otterbox is not the case to buy. Their rubber outer disintegrates while one is watching. Also pops open when it falls depending where it hits.
For those looking for a good case, use Newer Tech KX, plus a Newertech glass cover film. (OWC website)

Dropped my phone umpteen times with it, great protection.

Not too bulky and goes on an off easily.

I'd be sticking a rubber bumper case on it anyways. It could be faux wood and pea green stripes for all I care. I can't imagine why someone would use anything other than a Lifeproof case or similar IP 68 case on an iPhone. They are far too expensive and susceptible to damage to leave unprotected. In their default state they are fairly slippery.

The iPhone 8 is going to come in green and have 8gb of ram and have some other tech in it that no other phone will have in five years... STOP WITH THE BS POSTS FROM SOME INDUSTRY GUY. Please can we just wait for the actual event to talk about these phones. Unless there is a picture of a part from china, I'm taking it with a pile of salt.

I like the minimal black case I saw at the Apple Store a while back. One the I did not care for about that case was the logo on the back. Don't like logo's of any kind I don't like to pay for something then be a walking advertisement for these companies. I know they all do it but they could make it less obvious. Like you say I used a case minimal case on the Galaxy S6 and did not worry or even think about fingerprints. I think that is just a think for whiners to whine about anyway. Whiners will always find something to whine about.
I am no fan of glass after the Galaxy S6. I would rather have metal or a dull finish plastic.

Hey, not a lady, but I loved that mirror on my Palm Pre... no really, I did have one, and I really did like the mirror. :)

But, the phone was underpowered and so UI could crawl at times... that's in fact what drove me to the iPhone for the first time -- I had avoided it before iOS 3 because of the lack of basic smartphone operations like copy and paste.
[doublepost=1499694047][/doublepost]I think the mockup looks hideous, but I love that the headphone jack is back! ;)

I loved webOS and homebrew (their jailbreak version). The Pre concept was fine (awesome really) but the quality was just too low. Too many exchanges for me.

The screen itself was much better than the current iphone (3G/3GS) at the time...ppi wise. Of course iphone 4 and retina blew it away.

I NEVER use cases on any of my phones and have never broken a screen. I would never use one of those ugly monstrosities unless I worked in some sort of industrial setting and had to have my phone on me. That is like driving a Ferrari around in 100 rolls of bubble wrap.

All those cases get gross fast. It drives me nuts when I see people use a broken case on their phone because they don't want the phone to break. Broken cases won't protect your device as well, and since no-one wants to clean them they just spread germs. Don't budget for a case. Buy a few.

This will be a fingerprint magnet...
So many of these in the current trend of shiny piano black or polished chrome, if left without a case, end up looking so gross and smudgy all the time that I think the sole purpose of these models is to look good in ads and nothing more. Or, maybe the purpose is to help sell cases? In any case, I look forward to the day that styles change and they figure this little problem out.

I guess Angela Ahrendts has been told to start performing. The newest iPhone in limited quantities, unique colors, and a 45% price premium? Sounds like Burberry. I have no doubt Apple can sell 10 million phones like that, but what will it do for the long-term reputation? Apple has been an aspirational brand along with providing a very user-friendly ecosystem. Do they think their customers are going to be pacified with another $770 rehash of the iPhone 6 design if they don't wan't to pony up $1,000+ for the AMOLED model? This could be exactly what it takes to push customers toward the Galaxy S8; an almost identical design to the Apple flagship for $725.

I'm reminded of Steve Jobs in an interview after he was called back in to rescue Apple.

"What ruined Apple was not growth … They got very greedy … Instead of following the original trajectory of the original vision, which was to make the thing an appliance and get this out there to as many people as possible … they went for profits. They made outlandish profits for about four years. What this cost them was their future. What they should have been doing is making rational profits and going for market share."

Apple needs to keep up its unit growth. Further fragmentation the product line may give a bump in revenue even if iPhone unit sales continue to decline as they did last quarter. Angela is an executive and I'm just a lowly consumer. In fact, it sounds like I may not be in Apple's target audience any more as I look at overall value and don't buy into luxury items (I'm the guy in a loaded Camry instead of the almost identical Lexus ES for $5,000 more). We'll see how this works out in the long term.

I know some ppl go without cases and swear by it. But I always put my phone in a case. So yeah the color is a moot point. I have the jet black iPhone, and you would never know it.

Old news, 9to5mac had this story up over the weekend. The news biz is 24/7, you're in the wrong biz if macrumors staff takes off for the weekend.

This will be a fingerprint magnet...

Actually, when you leave fingerprints all over your device, it’s a good reminder to clean it. These things are germ magnets more than anything else. Any reminder to clean your greasy filthy hands and gadgets is a good thing in my opinion.
