The speaker is the weakest link. If they don’t fix that then wtf are we even doing?
The same can be said of the the pro: a mega camera bump sitting on top of a huge chunk of aluminum. But to each, their own.
It should’ve been a telephoto camera, but most likely the architecture of that it’s impossible to lodge in such a thin body. Other than that, provided that their R&D managed to improve battery lifespan, and chose to stick with titanium framework, I’ll carry on using an Air.

imo, needs video out. There's no excuses tbh as the iPad Pro is even thinner than the iPhone Air
Yes. The 17e is far more appealing to me than the Air. But I just want a one-hand phone with no camera bump, even if it’s as thick as the iPhone 4 or a bit more.

Hope they’ll add a 2nd speaker.
Wish they would also release a 6.9” version so it can house a bigger battery whilst maintaining the same thickness.

It's not just the camera bump. It's the fact that the camera bump has a camera bump, and the lens protrudes from the bump on the bump.
If everything sat flush with the one bump (like the camera bar on Pixel phones, but without the sharp edges) I could get behind it - it's at the very top of the phone which makes more sense than the Pixel's arrangement. If only they'd stop claiming it's the thinnest iPhone ever when it's thicker than every iPhone produced before the 13 Pro.
2nd speaker and I'm in, I don't care about any other feature the current one is great but I held off due to this after trying one out. I use the speakers constantly and especially even more with voice assistants e.g. the new GPT-Live which is really nice but can be a bit quiet even on a Pro phone.
We'll see, I think they might do it.
The downside being of course the 20th anniversary phone is probably going to make a lot of Air 2 buyers upgrade again, assuming it's a separate model and not the 'new pro' thickness wise. Time will tell.

I’ve still never seen someone using one in the wild, and I pay attention to stuff like this. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older and don’t go to very trendy locations? Because that’s the only reason this device exists.

Just not enough to make pull the trigger again. The most glaring is the lack of zoom lens, which I use much more than the UW, however the under the hood crippling bothers me even more (such as the slower charging, USB 2 port, etc). Oh, yeah, and the puny single speaker which makes speakerphone calls impossible.

I say combine the concepts and offer a 5.6" Air. Fold seems like it'll be too wide for proper one handedness. 12 mini 'til the wheels fall off!
Need stereo speakers as the sound is pretty bad on the original Air from last year.
Apple plans to release a second-generation iPhone Air in the first quarter of 2027, according to Jeff Pu, an investment analyst who covers Apple.
In a research note with GF Securities today, Pu said the iPhone Air 2 will have the following five new features compared to the current model:
He expects the next iPhone Air to stick with a 6.5-inch display, 12GB of RAM, and an 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera.
- The addition of a second 48-megapixel rear camera — an Ultra Wide lens to complement the existing Fusion lens.
- A slightly smaller Dynamic Island.
- A faster and more power-efficient A20 Pro chip manufactured with TSMC's advanced 2nm process. The current iPhone Air has a 3nm A19 Pro chip.
- Apple's second-generation N2 chip for wireless networking. In the existing iPhone Air, the N1 chip is an Apple-designed wireless networking chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The chip also improves the overall performance and reliability of features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
- Apple's second-generation C2 chip for 5G. Apple says the current C1X chip is already the most power-efficient modem in an iPhone ever.
Apple reportedly plans to release the iPhone Air 2 alongside the regular iPhone 18 and a lower-end iPhone 18e around March 2027. The higher-end iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and foldable "iPhone Ultra" are expected to launch this September, with the devices in the lineup rolling out at different times as part of a new strategy.

Why don't they just drop this and focus on the mainline products and reduce the cost of everything else? People care about battery now, while it looks amazing, bringing thinness like this is 10 years too late...

So bringing it up to par hardware wise with Samsungs original S25 edge (now discontinued) except for the single speaker. Slow clap!
I love the form factor and the battery is a non issue. But the lack of telephoto is a problem.
To get that I need to go to Pro, and all of a sudden my phone weighs like a brick !

I agree, if a current/ next gen model cant improve on or at least match every spec of an iphone released 10 years ago then it shouldn't exist.
There was only three things that put me off the current air.
1. Mono speaker
2. Worse battery
3. Price
Technically i’m not bothered about 2 cameras but i expect 2 for the money apple is charging for this.
And now with the price rises, i do feel the air will flop again.
Even of the fix all of the short comings including the mono speaker.

Can I make a suggestion, and honestly I think this would be an amazing success of an idea for both customers who would love the concept and for Apple to make more money 😉

So keep the air lovely and slim as it currently is, but expand the concept of the magnetic battery pack.
Style the back of the phone very slightly differently and also make the external battery look sleeker (more gentle curves)
Offer the batteries in the same colours at the phones.
Naturally reduce the price of the battery as much as possible.
What you will then find it, people may start buying one or two of the matching batteries simply to keep one on them charged as a spare.
When at home or work, they won't need any battery, but going out for the day, you can have the battery on the phone for longer life, and the spare in a bag or pocket if you really need a backup.
This gives the best of all worlds.
1: Super thin phone when you are around charging points.
2: Your add-one battery for when you go out and about.
3: The spare for an emergency.
And they all colour match, and look sleeker when attached than the current ugly lump stuck on the back, with no design/style of integration between the two pieces:
I'm 100% you could engineer these to pieces to combine together in a more seamless way

Gotta admit that adding another camera to it seems… counterproductive. Doesn’t matter to me, I suppose, since I’m not in the market yet. But the Air is the most appealing iPhone to me and anything that adds size and weight is equivocal at best.
I thought it was obvious I meant all of those things in the same form factor and similar weight. They don't have to add weight and bulk, technological advances could mean Apple finds a solution. Adding a stereo speaker for example would be negligible weight increase (if any, if its replacing a solid piece of the phone) and no bulk increase.
