I have seen one where he put it inside a fridge, ran a benchmark and performance degraded quickly.

Not every benchmark/test matches the results from mrwhostheboss (fridge one). The Tom’s guide review is a quick read. It doesn’t match the 17pro numbers though but that was expected. There’s also some gaming tests (check game culture on YouTube) that show solid extended performance. This all probably doesn’t matter to most Air users, it can provide more than enough power for the majority. If you’re doing serious creation and/or gaming, it’s unlikely you’re choosing the Air in the first place.

Yeah I decided gonna keep my 16 pro till next year, after going in store, if I am going bigger as in taller/wider, I at least want similar speakers and 2 cameras.
Don't get on with max size phones.
Ugh. You said exactly what I was thinking. Speakers, extra camera (hopefully macro. I really miss that). But, I had my 13 Pro (GREAT phone) for 4 years and the Air was just too sexy to pass up.

I’ll probably upgrade when the time comes. That’s how they get you.

Hate the look of the new iOS just hate it.
yeah, I am also not happy at all with iOS 26. I had all of the betas with my 16 Pro, didn't like it.

For example, the app icons on the homescreen on my iPhone Air are way way to big, like they're exploded haha.
Give users more options, but hey...Apple and real options/customazation don't go well together.
For me, iOS 26 could be better named iOS 18.8
Try again next year Apple, do better

I like some things but not everything and the home screen is one of them. I wish you could set the icons to clear (subdues the size) without turning your widgets, settings icons, etc… also transparent. I wish Apple would just give us real theming options already. I miss the jailbreaking days when my home screen actually looked nice and unique.

Honestly the slander on the speaker is overblown. I’m no audiophile, but it sounds like a great mono speaker for a smartphone. Now, comparing directly next to my 17 Pro I can absolutely tell a difference… but I would never know what I’m missing without having something to directly compare it to. Audio in landscape is a bit weird but I would likely use AirPods for anything I’m watching in landscape, or just be watching dialogue like a video podcast.

I actually think the speaker itself could be the biggest make or break for a buyer. We all know the camera and battery differences going in, but you really need to hear the speaker (and in the right setting) to know if it’s fine for you.
Agree very noticeable if you do a side by side comparison surprisingly good when you don’t do that and just enjoy it. I tried watching a bit of a film also, the audio quality is perfectly fine, there’s a slight imbalance to start with caused by it coming out of one end and then I think you quickly adapt and don’t really notice

Have to chime in on this.

I was really apprehensive about buying the Air because of (Here we go! I used the term first!) “OneSpeakerGatel”.

But, now that I have the phone in-hand, it’s absolutely not a big deal. The speaker is loud and clear and, after listening to it, I have no complaints.

On a side note, I absolutely love the Air. This phone reminds me of the old days when we all got so excited about an iPhone redesign.

I pre-ordered this on a whim. Figured it was time to move on from my 13 Pro. I could NOT be happier. The Air, for me at least, is an absolute win!

I purchased two airs yesterday for myself and a family member. For my family member the weight/size was a critical factor (some health concerns), so not much more to say there.

For me, I have used and gotten the new gen of pro/pro max every year for a few years and honestly was just excited about a new form factor. Main concerns were battery life, camera.

My first actions/impressions:
*I immediately put screen protectors on my phones (don’t overthink this as commentary on durability- I have done it for every phone I own because the nature of my job makes it important)
*I’m a case user (again, all phones) so I immediately put it into a relatively slim case (picture any clear silicone case)
*I was not super impressed by the size. Obviously it’s thinner but I genuinely was like “what did I just spend $1000 on”
*we had gotten a couple of different cases just to try, so I swapped out cases and got to our slimmest one- now I’m having a “whoa” moment. This is actually weirdly light and airy… then on a whim, because I’m at home and a case is less critical, I do what I rarely/never do, and use the phone without a case. For the rest of the day. Holy **** guys, it does feel like you are just holding display. I went from second guessing myself to being sold hard on this form factor and am in love. Probably I will use the slimmest case possible when need but may stick to caseless at home for the first time since iPhone X (this is a big deal for me). I do still find certain cases to allow for a better grip on phones, that remains the case (heh) but at least I’m not having this phone constantly sliding down in my grip or weighing down my pinky.
*Cameras - it’s exactly what you think it is, if you came from a pro. A compromise. I’m not sure yet if it’s one I’m willing to make but I’ll use the return window and some travel I have in the next few days to challenge how stuck I am on the pro camera system. I’m not a professional photographer, so it’s less about the high quality, but I’m like every user I personally know with a pro- I did in fact use all three lenses even as a layperson.
*No comment on battery life, I wait for a few days with all phones to have a sense of this
*I got one of the white phones. Having seen them all in person I’m actually disappointed in Apple. They basically gave us two colors. There is no meaningful difference between silver/gold/blue in different lighting and I just wish mine popped more as a color.
*I got the MagSafe battery. Candidly don’t think I will keep it. The cost is not prohibitive, but it weighs more than you might think and I have a couple of very sleek MagSafe power banks with built in cables (which I use to attach magnetically but charge WIRED and then remove ASAP rather than keeping it on half the day). I was a big fan of the OG MagSafe battery given options at the time, but this one charges too slow, charges only wirelessly whereas my MagSafe banks with cable will use the MagSafe functionality to stay attached but charge (much) faster than MagSafe wireless supports thanks to the cable. Also when MagSafe battery v1 came out I just think the market for MagSafe power banks was terrible. They all were heavy clunky and got insanely hot. And slooow. Right now other power banks beat MagSafe battery v2, and they give me a battery % on an LCD without having to use the battery pack, which I really appreciate and still is not a thing for the new MagSafe battery. Basically no meaningful indicator of charge status until you attach it to a phone, which is wildly bad UX on Apple.

This phone requires trade offs. I wish more people framed it that way than being defensive about it (ha! Who needs all those cameras and battery life!) or aggressive about how pointless this air is. It is beautiful and brilliant to use, it just may not be for everyone. If you’re even remotely curious I suggest trying it out. Please go in open minded vs decision oriented and you might experience what a lot of us are experiencing, the first feeling of magic in phone tech in a decent while.

I wasn't thinking about picking up any of the new models, but the Air has me intrigued. The compromises are ones I think I can accept, I rarely use the speakers on my 16 pro, I'm only away from a charger for around six hours a day and barring snaps of the family and the dog I'm not a massive photographer. I'm impressed with reports of it's durability (albeit early impressions).

Played around a little bit with the iPhone Air. I gotta say, it’s super impressive when you first hold it and I love how light and futuristic it feels but at the same time, once the honeymoon phase is over and the launch week hype goes away, I would probably start missing all the Pro features the Air lacks and I would probably regret not going for the 17 Pro. So as much as I want the Air, I’m not sure if it would be a good fit long term for me.

That said, the Air is a stunning engineering achievement. So premium feeling and looking, like an expensive piece of jewelry. Really great showing from apple on the design. Props!

View attachment 2552567It's beautiful and so light compared to my 16 pro max. I do think the blue is very noticeable. Funny how the box is thinner than some phones

??? I got airs but the box is not “thinner than some phones” unless you are comparing to a landline device that sits on your desk. I love the air, but it’s this type of hyperbole that makes air-fans seem delusional.

I agree but the issue is that after using the air for a day, I picked up my 16pm and it was like a brick. I’m not a fan of the camera downgrade but the general usability has gone up.

I just picked up my 16 Pro after a day to wipe it for trade in and it feels like a relic of the past. The Air is an amazing feat of engineering.

sarcasm and no one thinks the air's box is smaller than a phone.

Has anyone upgraded to the Air from iPhone 13? I’m thinking about getting my wife an upgrade as a surprise. She is a casual user and doesn’t need pro features at all.

Her biggest concern is battery life. I have been reading all the reviews and I understand the battery tradeoffs. I understand the Pro’s battery is way better but it’s hard to compare to older models. On the comparison site, it says 27 vs 19 hours (Air over 15) for video playback but how does that compare to real world?

Battery is pretty good. About the same as my iPhone 16 Pro based on my usage for the first 2 days.
So it will be an improvement over the iPhone 13

Battery life will be good, although not as good as any iPhone of the 16 series.

See this post of mine for more realistic numbers:

If she’s coming from an iPhone 13 on iOS 18, the Air will most likely be an improvement. How much? I’m not sure, as I don’t know the impact of iOS 18 vs iOS 15 and I haven’t used an iPhone 13 regardless.

To be honest, I believe battery life is a non-issue. About 73% of the 16 Plus should definitely be good enough.

I share these two photos here too (Air-6,55” vs 13PM-6,68”):

This iPhone Air is the real deal.

People wonder if it's worth losing two cameras or a second speaker, but I'm sure that what it’s not worth is having a phone that's almost 9 mm thick and over 200 grams.

Upgraded from iPhone 15 Pro. After almost 24h with the iPhone Air (Sky Blue), here are my first impressions and thoughts.

- I couldn’t really tell the difference in colors at the Apple Store and even up against white objects at home, I barely see blue.

- iPhone air speaker is good enough. If your habits include using your phone as a portable speaker, this would be disappointing compared to the Pro’s. Perfectly fine for occasional video on the sofa or speaker phone call. Pro speakers are louder, more rich sound, but I’ve never thought they were that good anyways to use for more than a quick few minutes at a time. I demand good audio - like a portable speaker or headphones.

- battery life is significantly better so far than my iPhone 15 Pro with 88% battery health. Purchased MagSafe battery pack but might return if battery life continues to hold up over next few days.

- Camera quality is good, even at night, not much difference between 15 Pro pics for casual photography and 98% of the pics i take. But the lack of macro mode from ultrawide is missed. Telephoto also missed, but missed a lot less, I considered that a luxury. My thinking is - it’s a good trade off for an amazing form factor. I don’t want to lug around the extra size and weight for the very few times a year I REALLY NEED a pro camera.

- I like minimal cases like pitaka or arc pulse. But going caseless on this I think. It’s too beautiful to cover up, and from other endurance test, the glass isn’t going to break that easy. But I’m ocd about scuffs and minor marks, so might reconsider.

- walking to the gym, having this in my pocket compared to just my iPhone 15 Pro was a treat. Similar weight, but just feels better.

Reasons I didn’t go for the Pro Max:
- aluminum scuffs more easily, I’m a little ocd about that.
- size and heft

I think this year is interesting because if you’re the type of person who always gets “the best” iPhone, that’s not clear anymore what that is. It’ll be different for different use cases and habits that people have.

iPhone 17 - good value for a great phone.
iPhone Air - stylish, old school apple form over function, most durable.
iPhone Pro’s - maximum functionality and specs.

Im playing around with air since yesterday and found it a bit laggish when scrolling home pages and here and there. Also, seems weirdly less brighter than my 15 pro (at same brightness percentage)

Camera question for Air owners - how close does the single lens focus? An annoyance when I got my 15 Pro is that the main lens cannot focus closer than ~1 foot and you have to switch to the ultra wide, which totally changes the picture/depth. I get that it's because of the larger sensor, but just curious if the Air can take closer photos because it doesn't have the ultrawide? I'm considering the Air but if it can't take close photos, that would be a show stopper. And on the flip side, if it can, I'd actually prefer that over the forced macro on the Pros.
