Does anyone have an opinion on my battery usage stats. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I’m having battery anxiety and just looking to make sure this is a good usage rate.

It looks like you had heavy usage on Saturday, not nearly as much as on Sunday, and you weren't able to charge until you got home early Monday morning. Is that what happened? Because if it is that's pretty normal. Maybe you scaled back your usage because of battery anxiety, that's also normal. It doesn't hurt to have some kind of MagSafe battery or something else to extend the Air's life. Using a battery pack for an hour here or there can help.

Yeah. Saturday I assumed the phone was still indexing which accounted for the battery to deplete.

Yesterday usage was less than normal. I didn’t charge over night since I had roughly 35% left before bed. I just figured I’d top it off this morning before leaving.

I’m sure I’m just looking into it to much. Should just treat it like my old pro 13. I should be fine.

Do you recommend charging every night regardless of battery percentage?

Speakers in a smartphone will never ever matter to me. My phone is on silent most the times, and I have iPad and MacBook if I do need to watch content. My phone is my email, and texting device lol idk why its so hard to believe that some people dont care about the speakers on their phone loll
I work from home and use mine a lot so I do care lolll

An observation concerning the Air camera flash .... it only does first curtain flash aka True Tone. The Pros do second curtain flash aka Adaptive True Tone.

What is first curtain flash? It's that really harsh, hard flash on a subject.

Second curtain is basically a fill flash, so no hotspots in the picture.

edit: I don't understand this one. 2nd curtain is just a timing factor. Surely they could have programmed in 2nd curtain
....

edit2: looks like there is some hardware factor involved

At this point I would allow Apple's new adaptive charging take the reins. Accept the fact that depending on what climate you live in and how rigorously you use your phone, the battery is going to slow degrade every year. Fortunately Apple has gotten better at managing that over time through better software optimization. either by slowing charging or even restricting it when the ambient temperature is too high. A few years ago it was common to see battery health drop to 80% in less than three years, the trigger point for a replacement. I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. Either way, I think we're talking about a few percentage points here or there, nothing catastrophic.

Ah that’s interesting! So lower quality photos with flash?

The difference between the speakers for voice content between my 16P and Air is a lot less than it is with music. It's perfectly adequate for me for podcasts. I think your use case is definitely unique. I have speakers throughout my house and it takes 2 taps to send the audio from my phone to one for extended listening. My home office has a Mac with way better speakers and AirPods if I need to be discreet and handoff makes it pretty seamless. It sounds like you pretty much have all of those options but choose to use the phone speakers for 20-30 hours a week?
Yeah, if I'm passing through somewhere for a quick 3 minute errand I don't want to hand off to a HomePod mini because getting it back is a bunch of taps, but for music etc. I'll definitely play on multiple and just have it on in an ambient way :).

That's cool voice content seems ok. Maybe I will have to try one out.

You don't understand flash. First curtain and second curtain have the exact same "harshness." The only difference it creates is which way ambient light follows a moving subject in longer exposures.

Don't forget about the Apple Magnifier app for small text/details, etc. Works great.

ETA: Loving the Air so far. I didn't realize what a brick my 16PM was until I was trading it in and had both in hand, haha!!

Day 2 is going good so far! I have about 2 hours SOT and 84% but I have been home and on WiFI for most of that. I'm still noticing the phone has a bit of lag switching apps, and even opening them. Not sure if stuff is still indexing, or if it's due to restoring from using a backup.

I’ve noticed that iPhones become slower after a few months of use, requiring a factory reset to restore the smooth experience. It seems that the more apps you have, the slower the phone becomes over time.

I'm not going to tell anyone to "hold it different" because their use case is their use case, but your thinking tracks mine. I was SHOCKED to see how many people are saying "no second speaker, no sale". A second speaker is going to be tiny, which means it won't sound good. If you care enough about audio quality to say "nope, not buying that phone" I don't understand why you're listening to phone speakers in the first place.

I'm definitely not an audiophile, but my phone almost never makes sound. If I'm watching something: AirPods. I made myself use the single speaker to watch Formula 1 over the weekend and it was fine. I could absolutely tell a difference compared to the Pro Max, but they both sounded significantly worse than listening on my AirPods.

But I'm starting to think I'm the weird one. Given the forum's reaction, I definitely am. And, thinking about it more, I suspect "normal users" are probably more likely to just use the phone speakers, given what I see when I'm out and about.
I guess we're both the weird ones. I don't understand people using the internal phone speakers and especially if they have AirPods. But more and more when I'm out shopping I see people talking to other people on the speakerphone or FaceTime which I think is kind of rude. If I really didn't want to use AirPods or some other in-ear/over the ear device I'd get a decent set of bluetooth speakers.

Today is day 3 for me with my Air. Just throwing this here in case someone has similar use/hard time deciding as me. I usually buy the standard Pro, but I did get the 12 mini and 13 mini after regular launches just because I like them. So I've made camera compromises™ before. I've also been so bored with yearly iPhones (starting in 2008) that I tried switching to Android a few times. I want my phone to look nice and be as functional as it can be. I'm probably the target demographic for the Air, and I am a heavy phone user.

My main concerns were the camera and the battery, as every other person has mentioned. Day 1 I didn't use low power mode, and I had a pretty regular day. I didn't use my phone completely as much as I normally would though. It lasted from about 6am-10:30ish pm. So I expect not using low power mode on a regular day, maybe I'll make it to 9pm if I'm lucky. Day 2 I used low power mode and it made it from 6am to well past midnight. No complaints.

Day 3 (today) I was really testing it on a "busier" day for me. I walked for two hours playing Pokemon Go and listening to Spotify. My watch was connected, I used AirPods Pro 3, and had an accessory bluetooth Pokemon device during the walk. I used low power mode and my phone was off of the charger at 8:08am. After walking and playing for two hours straight, my phone was at 51%. For comparison, my 13 mini would be below 20% after two hours of similar use. I didn't charge my phone afterwards and am currently sitting at 15% (7pm). A Pro would definitely be better, but I had a 16 Pro and I had to top that off sometimes too. I knew going in it wasn't the same as a Pro, and I'm not disappointed with its performance.

I will miss 0.5x and more lenses. It's unfortunate to not have them. Of course I have a regular camera, but the convenience of a good phone camera is having it with me all the time. I'm not bringing my Leica to vet appointments or anything. The camera is still very good and it's better than what I was using, so the pros outweigh the cons for me. I wish the Air was smaller though, especially coming from a mini. I get the thinness for sure, but I don't think it's as light or as unnoticeable as others have said. I really had a hard time deciding between regular Pro and the Air, and I don't think either are a bad choice. I wanted something different, and this does what I need while having a design I like.

I’m throwing in the towel on the Air today after having used it over the weekend.

Coming from a 15 and going to the Air, I was thrilled by the design of the phone, and it is beautiful. Screen size going from 6.1 to 6.5 was also a very nice bump.

However, just about everything else felt like a downgrade and I just couldn’t justify having paid $200 extra for this experience. I hated how slick the clear case from Apple felt when trying to pick it up. The phone being super thin also didn’t make this any easier. The battery life was also not quite what I was hoping. I think Apple is greatly exaggerating suggesting this is comparable to a 16 Pro.

The Air’s battery life feels comparable to my two year old 15, with 89% battery health. Mrwhostheboss battery video confirmed my suspicions on this. The Air died well before the 16 or 17. While the battery life on my 15 right now is still adequate for me, that’s with the Air having 100% battery health. It’s just too much of a compromise on this front for me.

So I’m going to swap this out for a regular 17 and I think I’ll be very happy with that phone, and the screen only goes down to 6.3 in size. Everything else will get better though, including getting that silicon case again which I love.
Are you me? I had basically this exact experience (except I'm coming from an iPhone 13) including using the Apple clear case and finding it too slippery, to ordering a base 17 and being excited to get back into an Apple silicone case since it wasn't offered for the Air. I'm stuck waiting 2-3 weeks to get mine delivered since I don't live near an Apple store. Wish I could compare them side-by-side to be sure but I think it's the right choice for me.

Good luck!

I've had mine since launch. I like how it feels, and it's very fast. Cameras are decent enough. The one thing I'm still 'testing' to see if I'll keep it is the heat.

Yesterday it seemed to get pretty noticeably warm while running a pretty basic app. Also gets slightly warm when using the camera app. And slightly warm when scrolling for a bit on social media.

I never noticed that on my 16 Pro. Are any other Air users noticing this?

My Air only got hot during the initial setup/indexing process. Since then it's running pretty cool. The most strenuous thing the phone does is doomscrolling.

MKBHD review of the Air. His main concern is the battery and he gave it C- (whatever that means).

iPhone 11 battery woah
Wouldn't buy one after watching that. Just bought the watch band he is wearing though lol sick, reward for not upgrading anything.
Interesting what he said about foldables, will need to be thinner Apple.
