I find the EU’s battery test super interesting. Many comments here have said that battery life is the make-or-break issue, and I think it’ll be good.

48 hours for the 16 Plus and 40 for the Air. If it is that good, then battery life is not an issue and the discussion is form factor vs the Ultra Wide, Stereo speakers and some other camera functions enabled by the Ultra Wide.

Battery life would weigh pretty heavily imo.

Many complaints about the Mini were about battery life. It just wasn’t good enough for people’s current usage profile, which skews intensive and heavy, and with significant screen-on time.

If the trade-off is only limited to what I said before, then it would be pretty nice.
I’m interested in checking out the Air’s adaptive power. I’ve always wanted an automatic low power mode on my Pro to help make it through the day.

The Air is so slick. Just missing a couple of things to get this iteration. Just one speaker and slow USB transfer speeds. I wouldn’t even miss the ultrawide lens.

Agreed -- I might end up missing something, but I doubt it. Beyond that, this is the first iPhone design in ages that I've actually been excited about.

you mention mkbhd.

i was geared up to buy the iPhone Air immediately.
but i happened to see mkbhd's short, first impressions of it.

i decided to wait to buy.

there is only one thing that im waiting on from real-life users reports after they have been using for a few days:
how hot does this phone get?
with titanium frame, and not a lot being mentioned about how it dissipates that heat, i think it may be running hot a lot of the time. with AI needing all the RAM it can get, i can see it becoming very uncomfortable to use, and/or things like Photos waiting to sync until the phone cools down.

i really love the thinness. but i don't want an iPhone experience that is always throttling.

it may have been for heat reasons why apple is using 1 less core (5 cores) when compared with the iPhone Pro and Pro Max, and not just to make a marketing/sales price difference.
If you make any decision whatsoever based on what that moron says, you need to rethink your approach to life. Yes, moron. That is what he is. Not just because of his terrible take on iPhone Air, but from the pointless way he makes a living and nonsense opinions he has. You'd think someone who spends his life glomming money off other's people's successful products would at least understand them by now. He doesn't. The only explanation for that: he's a moron.

Make your choices yourself. Do not be influenced by someone pretending to be an influencer.

It’s perfectly valid to compare Samsung and Apple devices mate.
It's also perfectly valid to point out that most people aren't interested in hearing it, many view it as outright trolling, and those with actual in depth experience of both platforms find most of the "comparisons" to be a joke.

Pointing out a hardware difference is not trolling mate. These two devices are clearly competing against each other.

No ultra wide is a deal-breaker for me. Most photos I post to IG are ultra wide.

But I think it's a sick device tbh. It has the same battery as my 16 Pro, with improved performance in an insane form factor.

Apple owns 90% of the market above $500 in the US. they are not competing at anything.
Did you just wake up from a coma that started in 2013?

There is absolutely no chance that remains true in 2025.

Samsung's premium lineup is selling well in both the States and worldwide. The Z Fold 7 is a hit.

I'm not going to engage further with someone who seriously thinks Apple has zero competition. Take care.

Samsung was able to provide dual cameras and stereo speakers in the same form factor with the S25 Edge.

I am not saying that I am right, but nobody will ever be able to convince me that Apple doesn't deliberately compromise certain aspects of its lower priced devices, like the iPhone, as to push people into the higher profit margin Pro and Pro Max. It is ludicrous to believe that Apple could not have fit two cameras and two speaker into the Air. But doing so would have made the Air more attractive to a wider market. Which means that Apple would have to make one of two decisions. (1). Price the Air higher than the Pro models or (2). Keep the Air at its current price and see it more than likely cannibalize the Pro models above it.

I love Apple and have always enjoyed their products, but they do this a lot. Again IMO. The design of the Air is without question brilliant. It really is a great looking phone, but it holds back just enough features so that it doesn't completely upstage its more costly siblings.

And on edit: To add yes I understand this makes sense and get why from a business perspective why they do this. I guess I am just frustrated that Apple didn't do more to distinguish the Air from the 17 base.

Exactly that.

The purpose of an influencer is simply to earn money. They will get that by creating divisive videos and opinions rather than a truly balanced view. If they are inherently pro-something-or-other they may be financed or sponsored by the company that is selling the product. So they are either dishonest or a salesperson, neither of which you should trust when making an objective analysis of something that you are considering buying.

Thus influencers / mind *******s can go to hell.

As an irritating rationalist and spreadsheet fan you can use a Kepner-Tregoe decision analysis to come up with a completely rational view on what your options are. I did that before I put the money down. What I did for the iPhone 17 Pro is listed below. The importance and option scores are ranked where 1=bad, 5=good and the scores are just the SUMPRODUCT of the columns. The importance is how important that comparison point is to you personally. The highest score wins. Numbers of course, because sod Excel.

So the iPhone 17 pro won and I am not second guessing myself, there will be no buyers remorse and my daughter will be happy she gets a 15 Pro to replace her 13 Pro...

First time in many years I have been excited to upgrade (I do that yearly) and it feels justified since I am actually getting a completely new experience. Some of that old apple magic. Coming from 16 pro max.

As for cameras, don't care, tele isnt really that great and wide I can live without. They often end up looking distorted anyway. Just compose your photos better and it's fine, put some thought into them.

Battery/heat might be an issue but whatever, I dont think it will be as bad as with the 13 mini.

Now it's the eternal case or no case. I get cases for grip. Might get a bumper for certain situations like travel, gym, etc. Or just the pitaka that I end up getting each year.

I share your excitement for the release of the Air, genuinely been a long time ahead of a new iPhone launch since I’ve felt this way.

It’s a new design and a new direction, and it’s now the thinnest & most premium iPhone in the line up (looks & materials used) that’s what I used to love with the polished stainless steel frames from the X to the 14 pro series.

Haters are gonna hate whatever.

Give me my iPhone Air 🤩🤣

Same feeling this year - usually I wait 2 years to upgrade (Apple Card).

But this year, I am going to pay off my 16 Pro then trade it in for the 17 Air.

I was looking at the base 17 but the Air just clinched it for me - thin, sleek, new form factor and all the features I need for a daily device.

Just got a text from Apple after sending an email to Timmy - my Air order got bumped up to 9/19 delivery !

They absolutely could have added a second speaker and camera to the Air. It's already on the S25 Edge. I'm not sure why they didn't honestly. The Pro line has far superior cameras and battery life, so I don't think they were worried about cannibalizing Pro sales.

I'm quite certain we will see a second speaker and camera on version 2.0 or 3.0 of the Air.
