The only people who deserve ridicule are those that buy the Air, put a case on it, and slap a battery pack on the back.

Well Apple has made an expensive megasafe battery just for Air only, and few very protective cases just for Air too, even in the event the total hours are counted with this megasafe battery, seem like even Apple think whoever buy Air deserve what you said.

MKBHD expects Air would not sell well, he is professional, why we would against his prediction? You buy whatever you want, just Air very likely would not sell well, and you still can go to Apple site to pre order now after open for days, just not that many people want it and a lot of storage.
A YouTuber/"influencer" is now bestowed "professional" status? What a pathetic sign of the times. You're wrapping yourself in knots with your Air hatred that is borderline hysterical. We get it, you're not a fan, and we wish you well with your own devices.

What I "know" would likely be lost in a conversation with you. I was huge in AAPL in 2005, kept growing my position for over a decade, was very fortunate, have since divested. Started repositioning my tech exposure towards AVGO and NVDA 12 years ago. Still sitting on a considerable position of NVDA with essentially zero basis. I've been lucky, but I've put my time into this.

You asked me a question, here's one for you- what is the most significant factor in terms of AAPL's stock price in the past couple of years?

Um, how is an opinionated, biased and probably compensated influencer who relies on clicks be a PROFESSIONAL ?

That has to be the most ridiculous statement ever....

Lol made me chuckle.

This is the problem with influencers - they actually influence people. And yes, he does make a lot of good stuff and is successful for a reason - at the same time his income is from views and in turn engagement (comments, watch time etc). Which means the more he can stir up, the more it's better for him. I'm not saying he's the worst at that (there are others which are way worse).

His main claims about the air are (he's called them red flags):

Not aluminum so it could get much hotter and throttle performance. It's thin so it's less durable for bending. No way battery life can be good on this phone - all signs point to it being trash.

Now, some of these can be disproven already but I will wait for reviews and when my own device comes to fully comment on those three 'red flags' he's pointed out.

I think you mean titanium? I'm not worried about "bending" or any such thing under normal use. I think battery life will be the make or break test for the Air. My use pattern (home office, chargers everywhere, fast charger in car) can deal with subpar battery performance but I appreciate others will feel differently.

The EU’s rigorous EPREL tests of the iPhone Air very clearly show that it is an ultra-thin engineering marvel that punches above its weight.

It has a Class A rating for energy efficiency (92% charge efficiency, 0.3W idle).

It has 40 hours of mixed-use battery life (only 2 hours less than the 42 hours for iPhone 17 Pro, and outpacing the 16 Pro’s 38 hours.

It has a Class B drop test score (doubling 16 series) and Class A scratch resistance (much better than any previous iPhone).

The iPhone Air is no gimmick, and people are writing it off prematurely at their peril.

Not sure influencers are influencing much on uk sales side. The Apple site has all but white available on the 19th still. I guess not as many people want a £999 cheese cutter as I thought.
I had a feeling white would be the most popular colour despite Apple tending to push the blue.

There’s something so right about the iPhone Air in white. It reminds me of the classic polycarbonate and steel iPods - so clean and minimal. I love it 😍

I plan to do all of these things, so fire away. As to buying the Air, it is the phone that best meets my needs. As to the case, I like the feel of leather and want to protect my phone. As to the battery pack, this seems like a nice thing to have if, for example, I occasionally need additional battery life.

I agree and I think the silver polished titanium rails of the white model will show fewest scratches/abrasions due to not being coated in a colour.

It’s definitely like the original white iPod nano and iPhone X had a baby and I dig it.

Yeah meant 'not aluminum'. So if I'm correct it's only the sides which are titanium. And those guys done a live bend test with the air and couldn't do it.

So these points should already disprove mkbhd straight off, but I'll wait till the full reviews - questions his credibility when he is presenting these red flags almost as fact.

Super rational move to opine as to sales 6 days before the product is released. "Availability" without context of what inventory was ready for immediate release is completely meaningless. But don't let me stop you.

You hit it on the head earlier. He's looking for clicks. But he does so "professionally"... ;) The frame is completely titanium. I'd guess that is all that matters other than the surfaces, which have whatever version of turbo ceramic Apple now says is best.

Sadly, this is the world we’re living in right now. People have gotten used to forming their opinions based on what ‘influencers’ and the social media want them to think. They used to criticize TV and the news for influencing people’s views back in the ’80s and ’90s, but now with social media and ‘influencers,’ it’s way worse!
MKBHD, Linus, and other big tech YouTubers are just millionaires making videos for views. Their opinions should mean nothing to anyone with a functioning brain.

Maybe the iPhone Air was never the problem.

Maybe it’s the mirror it held up — to a culture that doesn’t just buy phones, but buys identity.
And in a world where one man's opinion means nothing, and dignity has no resale value, the only voices that rise above the noise are those loud (or shameless) enough to ride the algorithm.

We don’t really hate the Air.
We hate how we feel when no one likes our take on it.

@Konvictz @grovertdog @bluespark
thanks for your both sharing your thoughts. its a good discussion because of this.

has anybody established what the mesa is made of (i think that a top of a plateau could be called a mesa...lol)
is it glass, or titanium, or aluminium? that's where the heat would be concentrated.

and, as far as MKBHD is concerned, i listen to his work because he has achieved his status (and probably clicks) by presenting logical, coherent, and measured reflections from an apple inspired perspective, yet is very often challenging apple to do better and provide more value to its customers. just because he has red flagged possible thermal problems, i haven't heard him say anything unflattering about the iPhone Air.

Show me a broker firm statement

Yes I’m actually excited for an iPhone for the first time in years. Like you I’ve just upgraded the pro max and they’re great but it felt very same-ish and after about a day, I forget it’s a new phone.

This air is significantly different whilst retaining enough pro features for me to preorder.

About the hate - it just seems crazy that people are hating a tried and tested method (air and pro) which has worked very well - yet for some reason, for a phone (where it’s perfect for) it’s getting massive amounts of hate.

One thing I’ve noticed on the air is the Dynamic Island is a lot lower than the other iPhone’s creating a massive status bar with a load of dead space above.

I know for a fact that will get irritating fast especially for watching YouTube videos where the notch will eat into the video you’re watching. It already does that a little bit now on my iPhone 15 PM and I find it annoying.

Hum this is a good point. This might bother me too.

The amount of hateful comments for the air is insane right now. 'No one asked for a thinner phone' type of comments - even from people like mkbhd is crazy.

Firstly I asked for a thinner phone for years - I said I wish there was an air model for the iphone. Other manufacturers have been making thin phones and people have been buying them - so that indicates a lot of people want a device like this.

And it's even more stupid to make such a statement about the air when Apple have several products, and have had for years, with the air title - where thinness is the main selling point. These products have been selling well for years and continue to sell well. E.g. The Macbook Air is very popular and sells incredibly well.

These haters also forget from around 2010, part of Apple's huge rise in appeal was making powerful, thin and ultra stylish devices.

For people that hate the air, do they know there's another three models available?

-

Yes I know I’m going to get questioned/hate because I am ‘upgrading’ from my pro my model to a black 512gb air model. But it’s what I wanted for a while. I have other thin devices which are amazing and convenient to use whilst travelling for work/personal use. I can add iPhone air to this.
Sorry but people are allowed to have opinions bro. This is the world we live in now where people get so triggered by the words/opinions of others. WHO CARES!! You are part of the problem.

Well said. For me, an opportunity comes by rarely where I had one chance to buy the first iteration of the future of my favorite tech company’s products. An opportunity to always know I was one of the first to embrace its revolutionary design because i was admittedly bored with the last 10 years of their supposed innovations. This year I could not buy the same pro models I have been lugging around the last 10 years. Maybe my photos will look like they were taken from an Inatamatic camera and my battery is dead by 9:15 am. I am a man of faith in every way and I would rather make this leap to the air and trust than keep rewarding sameness. That’s just me and I hope you all enjoy your phones.
