Clear winner this year is iPhone 17 base model. The Pros are too ugly.
Apple is being too greedy they didn’t bother to include a second speaker. For the record Samsung Galaxy 25 Edge is also thin, has stereo speakers, 2 cameras and usb 3.2

I like the Air. At the same time, an ultrawide camera and a cheaper starting price would have made it a hit. It is the future so Apple isn’t going to abandon it. They will make alterations to ensure it sells better.

When I heard about the Air I was like 'YES FINALLY' and then I saw the massive camera bump. What's the point in making a super slim phone and sticking a massive camera bump on it? It looks ridiculous.

It's a non-issue and actually makes it easier to grab from your front pocket. The Apple Store lets you engage in all manner of tests, including pocketing an iPhone Air. Try it instead of running thought experiments.

I really like my Air, with the primary compromise being the single camera. An Air with a second camera would be ideal for me. Battery life has been workable for me and I really like the lightness in my pocket. One thing not talked about too much is the screen size - I enjoy having it straddling the pro and pro max.
Which second camera would you choose?
Ultra Wide or Telephoto?

If bringing a company to a near four trillion dollar valuation is considered "sinking Apple" then I'd be interested in seeing what you consider to be a success....
Yeah, he would write something similar even if there was no Air. He would write something like: Tim Cook is an idiot because he doesn't try anything new. Now he's an idiot because they tried to go back to their roots and make the iPhone more iPhone-like.

Perhaps they need until the spring of 2027 to truly improve the hardware.

I predicted you'll see a Air price cut in September, and then the regular iPhone 18 in 2027 will take some inspiration from the Air which will then be killed.

I stick by this prediction

That is too bad. I own one and amazed every-time I pick it up how much better it compares to my old 16 Pro or the 17 Pro I tried. When I had both the Air and the 17 Pro, I reached for the Air every-time, as it felt so much better and the screen seemed so much better being larger. Definitely more upsides to it than downsides for me.

Battery life is just as good as my 16 Pro was and I never use speaker, as have Airpods, so could care less about that.
I love it too and I refuse to believe Im in some cult minority like the iPhone mini losers lol.

If it just had a second camera, it'd be a great phone.

But if you're 'just' adding a second camera the plateau needs to get larger. Which means likely a quarter of the back of the phone will be thicker. At which point it just makes more sense to make the whole thing a little bit thicker to accomodate everything, and a larger battery. And you've got the iPhone 17. For $200 less.

Apple designed themselves into a dead end with the Air.
