Let's compare apples with apples, shall we? Let's compare the S4 to the 5S in, say, Germany, France or the UK.

But I'm guessing this is pointless - you live in a country where iOS is largely meaningless, so you're trying to somehow bend the numbers so they fit you personally. I can't blame you for doing that, but at this point, I've decided that I won't carry this discussion any further.

Also in Italy there isn't a single model which sells more than iPhone ....
You are speaking about a market you clearly don't know ....
Again you are playing the game "iPhone vs a crowd of crappy cheap Android AND WP8 phones" ...
Do you want to compare iPhone 5s vs Lumia 920 sales in Italy ?
Be my guest ....

----------

Who's talking about benchmarks? I said that in a side by side test of the same web page loaded on both devices the S4 scrolls faster.

Benchmarks are far more reliable than a subjective test ....

Since all the Apple rumors dried up this entire site just turned into one big fanboy fest. The articles are geared to entice these responses. How about do something positive such as accessory and app reviews or tips and tricks for a change? How about help new people that actually came from Android instead of having people bash it all the time. When I had the iPhone 5s for a brief time I would have loved to know some of the better apps for iOS. I ended up going back to Android but I still love technology. In the long run I really don’t see the purpose of this article. It’s just a drop of water in a 5 gallon bucket. Next thing we’ll see is an article telling us that Apple users played Angry Birds more than their Android counterparts. Or people use Safari more than Google Chrome. Is it really that important?

POOR MISERABLE Apple NaySayers !!!!!!
Listen, The Jargon " Apple FanBoy " Itself is Really Really " OBSOLETE " & " OUTDATED " Now.
'cause Apple Products are NO MORE for LIMITED NICHE USERS.
Vast MAJORITY of People Are NOW Beggining to Understand its Userfriendliness and Cost-Performance ( This is Very IMPORTANT ! ) and Buy THEM Actually.

Are You Thinking I'm AN Apple PR Man?
Not at all.
I am Posting as A Two Vaio ( XP & Vista ) Owner. Thanks.

Lets all buy Apple gear :)

(That's a pretty big boost ain't it) ...

:p at everyone else. Its a joke that almost everyone else went down..

It means the vast majority of people messing around the internet with their mobile phones are doing so on Apple hardware.

And the significance? I guess it means if you're on an Android phone, you're not using the internet all that much. I have no idea why.

You need to qualify this statement with "In America" There is a whole world there outside of the USA.

Nowadays web browsing is a well-accepted approximation of device usage. Of course it's not completely accurate, but in the absence of better data, it's a decent proxy.

LOL.

I think what you're not realizing is that many apps are simply accessing the web for a specific thing. You may not be on a mobile browser, but you're effectively getting data from a website. I'm assuming (although I could be wrong) that this is also showing in these numbers.

As an app developer I'm very aware of web apps. Unless they show the same ads that would appear in a web browser, they are not counted as "web traffic". Since a large number of web apps show specially prepared web pages and aren't even recognizable as web apps, I highly doubt that they play a major role in these statistics.

Nice job Apple. iPhone dominates. Too bad you can't put some of your effort into Mavericks. I've had it with this horrible memory management (that improved memory management was BS) and general sluggishness. When my computer wakes up, it's going to be running Mountain Lion.

mavericks screams on my 2012 fusion mini. love it.

All things being equal it's highly unlikely.

Really? Thus cheap Android phones aren't POSSIBLY mainly used to text and make phone calls or maybe update a Facebook status?
Since Phil Schiller said so, they must collect dust.

Apple didn't lose anything .... The iPhone vs Android market share discussion is just plain stupid.
Give me iPhone 5s vs galaxy 4 vs HTC One sales numbers and we could speak about market share.

Next time will be "iPhone vs technology" numbers ?

You do realise there are more Iphone 4S in use than any other Iphone model by a large margin.

Google makes more money on iOS than on Android.

Desktop users use a wider variety of browsers (including Firefox), plus IE still dominates on Wintel machines, so Safari (now a Mac-only browser) at 3% for the desktop sounds about right.

According to statcounter, probably the most accurate tracker, Chrome has overtaken IE as the most used browser quite some time ago. Safari has about 5% share on the desktop and 9% if you include mobile browsers.

People buy iPhones because they want a smartphone they'll use the hell out of.

SOME people buy Android as a top-end smartphone but many just get them because the phone on some cheap deal just happened to be Android.

With Tablets it's even worse: 'Wow, I got this Android tablet - it was so much cheaper than iPad!'. Five minutes later it's shoved in the junk drawer while people are using their iPads to death.

I work for best buy and find this to be so true

I can only speak from experience, hundreds of Android phones purchased by my company(@ $9 a pop) are just collecting dust.

Has anyone said this in reality or do we just regurgitate what we read on fan sites? Anyone I have ever known who has used a Nexus tablet device has been nothing but completely satisfied with it.

Have you ever used a tablet that's not Nexus or one of the tablets that google is endorsing? Let's face it, the Nexus would cost twice its current price if google is trying to make money off the hardware. I had a friend who had one from Fujitsu(Arrows) with 2GB of RAM and the fastest Snapdragon processor. Using the default browser and maps was so laggy I had trouble zooming and scrolling. It cost as much as an iPad and I was astounded he even bought it.

which iPad? it works fairly well on my iPad Mini but I prefer browsing either on my iMac or Acer Chromebook.

Safari on the 5S and 5C (that I'm using now) is pretty smooth in my experience (I may not tax it like others on here do).

iPad Mini Retina.

The device needs more than 1GB of RAM, and iOS 7 is buggy.

Is this the thread where all the die-hard Apple fans come to lick their wounds and celebrate the last chart in which Apple is still in the lead?

I believe you have it backwards. Apple/iOS is leading in pretty much every chart/metric that comes out (usage, browser share, online shopping, developer support, profits, apps, quality, accessories, customer satisfaction, etc. and etc. on and on...) whereas Android only leads in marketshare, one of the most meaningless metrics available... especially given that it doesn't translate into anything else of substance for them. Heck Google claims even they make more money from iOS than Android hence the reason why they update apps for iOS before their own OS sometimes. So the Google fanboys are the ones who are usually licking their wounds.

So yeah, marketshare is pretty much the first, last, and only chart Android leads in. Kinda sad and pathetic really. Oh I forgot it leads in malware so there you go that's two. You can go ahead and lick your wounds now.

Yeah right.

Yes that is right.

Just because you can afford to buy let's say $1000 golf clubs as you like golf, does not mean you wish to pay top money for all other items in your life.

That's a moronic thing to do, you pick each item as you wish.

Apple always have for year and I mean YEARS fitted sub standard graphics cards to the home computers.
I'm not a "GAMER" but like many I do enjoy a game from time to time, so why buy a Mac when I can get a PC for the same price that performs far better in this regards.

It's nothing about hating apple, it's just sadness that they have never been interested in this and it pretty much killed them.
Pc's were getting pushed and pushed by gamers demands probably for a decade or two, and Apple did not bother.

Even now they continue to fit laptop graphics chips in their desktop machines as they insist on form over function and a proper desktop graphics chip/card would run too hot in an imac.

Hence I won't buy one, as they are sacrificing what it can do for the same of how thin the desktop can be.

I have read some of your posts and you prefer devices that aren't Apple which is fine, to each their own but this is such a stupid statement.

You are implying all Apple customers are sad, I buy an iPad or MBP as that is my choice is that sad and I use the internet over Christmas for FB or download stuff or my kids do, does this make me or my kids sad hmmmm.

You post here on an Apple-centric site when you don't seem to like Apple, who's sad again, let me see.....

Or maybe it was said in jest.

iPad vs. Nexus 7

I am on my 4th tablet, an iPad 4th Generation. I still own a Nexus 7 2nd Gen, but found it was slow at times even though it is running KitKat. The Bluetooth keyboards never quite worked properly with a Nexus 7. Although I do like having the ability to use a mouse on the Android OS and having the ability to customize the heck out of the OS. However, The iPad seems to have everything I need and use in a personal compute device. this now my primary personal Internet device at home and when traveling.:)

I let my kids use the Nexus 7 to play games on now.

I think any further discussion is useless .... Because I have both (actually the S 4 is my son's phone) and there is NOTHING and I repeat NOTHING in S 4 faster than iPhone 5s.
I like the S4, plastic aside, but it is no faster than an iPhone 5 in daily use ...

heh, chrome on my s4 GE definitely scrolls faster than Safari on my air. that's at least one thing :p

I work for best buy and find this to be so true

I used to work for Apple, and seriously found the opposite to be true.

Most of the users buying the iPad were buying it because some hipster friend of theirs told them to. They didn't know anything about it or how to use it, and after a year of one-to-one training they still didn't utilize a tenth of what the iPad could do.

On the other hand, users that got Android tablets, used them for the three things they want to do: update social media, surf the web/check email, stream media.

Hell, my mom has an iPhone now as per my recommendation ;) and she doesn't even know what the app store looks like, has never EVER used Pages or iMovie, and hasn't installed any apps.

All that to say, that personal experience is garbage. How much someone uses a device will always depend on the person.

Btw Apple couldn't care less about market share: they are looking at revenues.

If you sell 10 million devices with a net margin of 50$, you're still making a bigger profit than when you sell 1 million devices with a net margin of 200$ - so yes, market share does make a difference, no matter what you've talked yourself into believing.

On the other hand... 10 million devices is the same whether that happens to be 5% or 50% of the market.

That's why companies release their sales numbers. It's those numbers that contribute to their revenue and profit.

Market share is calculated after ALL companies' products are sold... and then they they look at what each company sold to get a percentage. Market share is calculated by 3rd party analysts to get a look at the entire market. It's interesting to see... but it doesn't really affect an individual company. A company is only responsible for themselves.

When Apple reports their iPhone sales for the quarter... they're only concerned with what they sold... not where they happen to fall compared to a dozen other companies. Apple's income statement only talks about Apple.

So I agree with Max(IT)... Apple is concerned with revenue... not market share.
