Unfortunately I very much doubt they will include the UK when they don't have to. Like with Facebook and their ad free tier, EU only.
Actually, UK took a big step back from Europe and literally f**ked their own face (quoting Tom Cruise aka Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder). For better or worse, they're no longer EU.

Yes.

I think elected governments should be able to bankrupt companies with fines or dissolve them if they break the rules/laws and refuse to correct it.
Which means that a gov at any given time would be able to quite simply take out any company they wish.

I hate how we’ve been tricked into using the word ‘sideloading’ which suggests it’s something dodgy and dangerous to do. In my day it was called ‘installing’.
I also hate how today's Apple fans want a big corporation to nanny and coddle them instead of taking responsibility for what they install on their own devices. In my day Apple fans were a lot better than that.

Guess that's not the point. macOS was born that way, iOS wasn't. While I love that macOS is open like that, I also find it super convenient that iOS is closed off, safe and protected by design. So I don't think it's necessarily hypocritical to make that argument as you're insinuating.
iOS was born without App Store (and third party apps) so yes your argument is hypocritical.

Are you supportive of the EU laws being discussed in this thread?
I said I hate how Apple fans want a big company to nanny and coddle them instead of taking responsibility for what they install on their own devices. That has nothing to do with government, laws, the EU or anything.

EU wants OPTIONS for users.
Then why did they mandate the removal of one?

Where is my OPTION for a fully closed system? EU made it illegal. I will now have the choice of the Android model, which was doing just fine as it was thank you very much, and a slightly prettier version of the Android model.

No, the EU doesn't want options, they want to mandate a particular model. Governments can't create options, only ban them. That was great when the EU was leading the charge on environmental issues like the use of hazardous materials, but choosing the connectors I can use and the experience I'm allowed to have with my choice of operating system is overstepping the useful role of government by a large margin.

Your times were 30 years ago, when Apple's equipment used permilles of today's.
Currently, all possible thieves are waiting for Apple customers and their bank accounts.

And have you ever installed an app outside of Play Store? I will assume, based on your stance here, you haven’t. Because you never went to Settings - Security - Allow from untrusted sources - pop up warning about the drama it can cause - click Yes - search an app apk, download, install.

How will adding the same thing to iOS change your iOS experience exactly? Whether Android “sucks” or not is a personal preference, but if you weren’t hacked to hell with malware, you don’t have a point. IT or not.
Point of "not" being hacked to hell matters. As it is something we all are trying to avoid having to deal with.
Why assume that I haven't used Android in such a manner? And I stated, that it is my opinion. We are still allowed to have that in the EU right? Or has that been regulated and gatekeepered out of existence?

I'm talking about the end user experience that will be impacted by the change.
There are those that can deal with this just fine. They are the minority of users though. Even more so in the EU where Android is the market leader by a lot. This rule isn't even needed, as you have a choice now to use Android and sideload to your hearts content. And you didn't have to force them to make that possible. Even with that being the case, many choose not to. I wonder why?

Not my problem. It’s shocking the way people can’t take responsibility for themselves these days and just want some big company to baby them. Even more shocking is how many people defend this sort of thing. No wonder society is degenerating the way it is.

So do you want a pan-national government to do the nannying and coddling instead by denying people the right of choosing what system they can buy into?

There is always the law of unintended consequences.

Will there be any negative effects from this?
There will be problems like in the Android world. Millions of people are losing their bank accounts because thieves trick them into installing counterfeit apps.
