They are actually owned by Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone has no part of it. There were some internal problems for a while with T-Mobile US a few years back as far as the 3G expansion and it's profitability. The HSPA + Rollout is great but T-Mobile needs to do something to get a higher ARPU per Sub.

If they merged with sprint they could become a powerhouse and it could boost their earnings. And pretty much Sprint is the only company they could merge with because a merger between AT&T would not be approved because it would be too big.

You are right Deutsche TeleKom is the new name for what was the Deutsche Bundesposte. ie the main German carrier. I have been around too long.

I've been on T-mobile for 3+ years and never have dropped calls. When I do, I find out the person I am talking to said it was their fault. It's a solid network.

Apple sells a phone that isn't tied to a lousy network: The iPod Touch

That's as good as it's gonna get, network-wise.

I am a long time T-Mobile customer. They can actually produce accurate billing and have great customer service. I have no signal problems here. This would be great.

BTW - they are the largest mobile phone company in the world and it is not even close. They are just not as big in the US. Apple obviously knows that they can sell millions more iPhones worldwide.

So.. the iphone 4 is coming to T-Mobile UK right? Can someone explain to me if T-mobile UK uses a different 3g frequency than t-mobile US? If not, then how is their phone going to work over there, assuming no revisions have been made to the iPhone?

Has the iPhone 3gs been on sale for T-Mobile UK for a while or is that one just coming out too?

I'm looking at this website: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/coming-soon/iphone4/

I think they're going to Boost mobile next. Lindsay Lohan and Wesley Snipes will be their spokespeople. Here's the first commercial:

Wesley: "Yo Lindsay! Where you at?"

Lindsay: " I'm in Jail!! Where you at???"

Wesley: " I'm in jail too!!!"

Yes, FCC did not allow T-Mobile to get the same 3G frequency as the rest of the carriers when T-Mobile came to the US. T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz for 3G where AT&T uses 1900 MHz frequency for 3G.

All the previous iPhones (including iPhone 4) do not have the 1700 MHz antennas build into the phone.

Could it be that T-Mobile will launch 3G on some of their 1900 MHz spectrum. There is not reason why they could not migrate some of that to 3G now that hey have populated 3G phones to their customers.

A few months back I read an interesting article on BGR regarding the way RIM implemented the 3G chipsets on the Bold 9700 and made all of them, regardless of carrier, the exact same, regardless of bands. Every Bold 9700 is exactly the same, but the network bands switch according to the software. That *may* be how Apple planned on doing it. Remember, they still have documents withheld by the FCC, they could have easily requested that to be left out of the public view. Just food for thought.

I was on T-Mobile for 6 years; its coverage sucks where I live.

But I'm sure it will be an improvement for some people, so I hope it happens. Although I'm still skeptical.

Safest thing to do in these troublesome rumor-mill times: If it says iPhone and [insert other carrier here], ignore until 2012. Exclusivity contract.

Yikes - I was trying to check out tMobile coverage on their site - PATHETIC site responsiveness and map navigation - hope that is not indicative of their phone coverage / performance.

Try it now...

I just visited and pages loaded in 2 or 3 seconds (on my ISP Broadband Cable Internet) and I had no problem navigating to phones and rates which is about all I'd be interested in knowing... ;)

Lovin' T-Mobile

Been on T-Mobile for 2 years in New Mexico - v1 iPhone - no problems at all, at least not yet.

It would be nice to have a choice at least so I'm hoping and hoping and hoping.......:p

Anyone who thinks AT&T is losing its exclusive rights, needs to pass me what they are smoking. This is a baseless rumor. Steve Jobs has said repeatedly this year, that AT&T is remaining the only iphone provider.

As a long time T-Mo customer and iPhone unlocker I hope this rumor is true.

I drive a truck and gave AT&T a shot with the 1rst Gen iPhone, and just lowered my T-Mo account to the bare minimum. It didn't take long before I unlocked it, put in my T-Mo SIM card and added a data plan to my T-Mo account.

In my experience crisscrossing the country the T-Mobile coverage has been FAR better, mostly due to the fact the they actually let the phone roam, something I never saw happen when I was on AT&T. Paying the ETF and two months of overlapping coverage was worth it.

If this actually happens I'll order one ASAP.

I doubt this is going to happen. It's both in AT&T and Apple's interest to stay exclusive through 2011. I don't see AT&T loosing exclusivity until Q3 2011 in order to give other networks time to prepare and make adjustments to the iPhone hardware.
