If we continue at this pace, we might reach all 50 states in 50 years.
it's only good at airports? hmm...passI've had this in MD for years and haven't used it once. Really not very useful if only 5 airports support it.
It’s a good backup if you left your ID in another car or at home. Saves the hassle of a ticket, and fighting in court showing up with the ID.it's only good at airports? hmm...pass
It’s still pretty useless overall. It requires special technology to read and verify it. Police may take it, but try to use it as a form of ID to by alcohol or get into a bar. TSA were supposed to be some of the first entities to accept it, and they still require a physical ID in Az at the airport.I was stopped in Arizona and used my digital Arizona ID. No issues at all. The cop just wrote the numbers down and typed it in the car. I held my phone the whole time and they said “they’re not allowed to touch it during traffic stops”
Illinois would be the most populous state to add it. Right ahead of OH.Illinios passed legislation this spring to allow digital DL/ID. Hopefully Illinois will be next in 2025.
Ive used the Apple Wallet ID at every flight without an issue with TSA, and I have even used it in SF, and LA to come back home. Never an issue, and they never asked for my physical ID. Recently they also made a few more changes that should make it easier, instead of handing your ID over, you insert it (or tap your phone) yourself into the machine, as well as it being available in every lane now, not just PreCheck. It’s still pretty useless overall. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had it since it came out here and think it’s pretty cool. It’s just still pretty useless and I still have to bring my physical ID.
Right? How has Apple not pushed super hard for this in their own state?I am shocked we got this before California. Like I feel I owe someone a “hat eating” shocked.
Considering RealID started in 2005 and is finally going to be required to fly/enter federal spaces in May 2025, you're probably not far off. I have no idea why it took some states forever to get on the bandwagon, but it sure did.If we continue at this pace, we might reach all 50 states in 50 years.
You don't "give your entire device" - just like with ApplePay or someone using a reader for a displayed QR code.I thought I wanted this until it dawned on me…I’d be giving my entire device.
No thank you🥹
The downside is the currently limited upside. You still have to carry your physical ID when driving. You can only use it at a few airports. You probably can't use it at many stores yet, though Ohio does have an iOS app for verifying IDs. (How many POS terminals currently support ISO 18013-5?)
I'm still nervous about putting all my eggs in one basket. I carry my wallet (and the cards) as sort of a backup if something happens with my phone. But I can see the convenience. As soon as this is live in Ontario, I can finally stop carrying a wallet!
I also wouldn’t mind a passport version of this…
I leave mine in my car, but I only take my wallet with me if I know I’m making a purchase over $250, which is my phone tap limit.I'm still nervous about putting all my eggs in one basket. Its not taking it away, just making it more convenient to not carry your wallet all the time. You will always have a card issuedState ID/DL physical cards are revenue for some states rapidly gaining people. This will never happen in Washington.
