so what is the hold up rolling this out? Are states concerned about security or is there some back-end sw infrastructure they are missing
I'd say mostly the former

Then again, some states actually have digital ID functionality already but by way of their own apps instead of Apple's implementation where you can just have it added right to Wallet

I've had this in MD for years and haven't used it once. Really not very useful if only 5 airports support it.

And especially since only those who are TSA Pre are allowed to use it.

A real let-down, to be honest 🤷‍♂️

Come on, America and other majorly developed counties: State IDs, Passports, Global Entry, and Birth Certificates should be digital already at the federal level—and available at the wallet level for iOS and Android.

It’s 2024.

I would even be willing to pay extra for the digital version of such things—especially to skip the atrociously medicore state-specific apps like Florida’s and California (the latter should be completely ashamed of themselves with the tax dollars of silicon valley professionals wasted in such a way).

Far more green too—especially eliminating stuff like needing to order extra pages for passports

Just tried using mine at CVG and the computer took too long, so Pre-Check used my physical ID.

Well, I tried OH and verification failed once uploaded - maybe too many trying it out today.
I couldn't believe it on Thursday when I read that Ohio digital license had been announced on Wednesday. I do not know how I missed the announcement that I'd been anticipating for two years. I did read the Macrumors front page at least a handful of times on Wednesday.

Upon reading the article I immediately opened Wallet and went through the application process. Today, almost exactly 24 hours later, I got the notification that the verification had failed. I think I had too much clutter in the background for my photo, and maybe it was too dark in the room I took the photo so the screen flashing was reflected in my glasses near my pupils.

I applied again today in a brighter room for my "movements" captures and photo. The notification of success came in just a few minutes.

Flying later in the month, looking forward to seeing how this works at the TSA kiosk.

It worked for me on the second attempt. Not sure how many locations are yet able to take advantage of it. Will grow over time I suppose.

At CVG, correct? Going home via ATL, and I bet it’s a much smoother process.
Yep no drama at CVG... which is funny because it's in Kentucky which doesn't have any digital ID yet, but I guess they figured many from Cincinnati would try it.

For those who’ve used it at PHX or other airports, is it just TSA that takes it? I haven’t actually tried my digital AZ ID yet because I was under the impression the airlines still don’t take it whenever they need ID, like when you check your bags. So I’d have to have my physical ID with me and ready anyway. (Of course, I also don’t have the travel ID license, so come 2025, I‘ll only be able to use my passport card anyway. But then again, if it would work well, it might serve as incentive for me to upgrade my license.)

Likewise, I’ve not tried to use it at any restaurants. They‘re barely starting to take Apple Pay, so it didn’t seem worthwhile even asking.

None of this matters as long as officials on the ground are unwilling to accept digital ID. I have tried it multiple times with the TSA at airport security and at best it works ¼ of the time. Doesn’t matter there is a 12’ banner on the wall proclaiming “digital identification is now accepted”. If the officer doing the checking insists on a physical ID, you better have one readily available.

I tried using the Mobile Passport Control returning to the US from an international wedding. I literally busted my ass entering in all the data and our group was first in line at the special signage queue. CBP agent literally acted like he had no idea what I was talking about, even when I pointed to the flipping sign but he did handle all of our group the old fashioned way and we still got through quickly.
