My iPhone 17 Pro Max will hold me until next year for IPhone 20th Anniversary model.

I'm still on my iPhone 13 Pro Max (long live a physical SIM Tray) and will be holding it until next year as well.

You can disagree all you like, or try to make a distinction between duties and tariffs, but that's what it is. There is only the 20% VAT which is more complex but as a VAT registered business in the UK, Apple isn't disadvantaged and the VAT is ultimately paid by the end customer.

Price was surprising, I was expecting $2199, due to memory/cpu price rises.
The feels aggressive pricing.

If I could pick just one thing I'm less than 100% happy with, that's the size of the corner radiuses.

Yes Rads had to be there, but I feel that's gone just a tiny bit too far.

If razor sharp was zero, and the current rad is 100. I think I'd be happy with it being around 75

Ternus seemed genuinely unenthused announcing this product. He knows it's so niche it's nowhere near a mass market product. It might go the way of the Vision Pro in a couple years.

I suspect a very large hands

I have very large hands (for my height; I'm 5'8" with the hands of an average 6'2" person) ... I can't even stand the iPhone 12 I currently have. The 4S and 5 were perfectly sized for just about everyone. For reference, my hands span 8 inches from wrist to fingertip, but the way you hold a phone securely is in your palm, hugged between the groove where your thumb joins your palm, and your fingertips. Except now you see how influencers take selfies and you can tell that phones have gotten too big to fit comfortably in the hand.

The image they showed on screen cannot be a real hand. At 5 inches wide it is only slightly narrower than my iPhone 12 is tall. If I turn it on its side, notice how if it were .78 inches narrower (so 5 inches even), my two longest fingertips wouldn't make it around the duo:

I can see why people think this but I also think we’ve been so conditioned in the past to think of a phone as a device to call and text people on. However, it’s so much more than that now, it’s more like a very capable computer with a phone as a feature.

Agreed. I do wish the prices were cheaper, but it surprises me that people get so offended by the price of a device that is so deeply integrated in almost everyone's daily life.

As expected.

If it makes you feel better, here in California, only a few hours' drive from Apple headquarters, I have to pay $2200 to actually get the phone out of the store. In the US, tax is added to the advertized price.

So, by your exchange rate, I'd pay £1623

UK taxes do some minor good; complain about the NHS, but at least you don't have the US' "pay or die" system, which leaves the poorest with only the latter option.

AMAZING. As someone who stopped using an iPhone 7+ years ago specifically to use a foldable phone I've been waiting for a long time for this. It completely kills the Fold 8. I'm so freakin' happy they also were able to squeeze in Magsafe and pencil support sounds crazy good.

My only gripe is I WISH they would make a full size foldable, not the tall/narrow crap Samsung makes but something with a cover screen at least as tall and wide as an iPhone Pro Max. Maybe/hopefully in the future because I'm sure the day will come where they need to raise prices again.

How does it kill a Samsung foldable phone? Last I checked Samsung has been doing this for 6 years...

Z Fold 8: No MagSafe, not IP68 rated, lacks nearly invisible under display camera on inner screen, speakers are on one side of the device when unfolded, no stylus support.

I own and love the Z Fold 8, but Apple's offering is superior, in my opinion.

IM so getting this. Yes, no FaceID (i'll live) or telephoto lense but other then that, IT HAS APPLE PENCIL SUPPORT (usb C version so ill have to buy one of those) BUT OH MAN 256 Gig at only 2K, thats more then good enough for me. It also has an IPS65 Raiting so it should be ok for boardwalk beach stuff as long as i dont take it on the sand and just to be safe ill be putting it in the best case i can get for it, and will never open the screen near the beach, so ok! Im very happy! Cant wait to get mine!

I use my iPad Pro M1 for basically media consumption and occasional Lightroom editing. I might sell it and my current phone, and get a fold. The screen, when opened, will be big enough for me for media consumption. When folded, it should make a nice pocketable phone. Let's see. Then again, next year, there might be something interesting for the 20th anniversary. I have got some time to think about it.

I love how many people are trying to justify owning one...well, if I get rid my dog, send my kid to public school and sell my car, I can get one.

Yes, you can get rid of your phone and iPad. But, it's not the same. iPad screens are much bigger. This is just a larger toy..I mean phone. And, yes, if my wife allowed me to waste money, I'd get one and a Vision Pro.

To be honest, iPhones are too much these days. Apple has done a great job training us to spend more money. Let's see if mobile caries will give me one for free if I sell my soul to them for 5 years.
