Did you even watch the keynote? While it doesn't have the same full camera tech as the iPhone 18 Pro, there are zero other compromises. That's the point.
The demo was amazing. not for me.
Super engineering.

will order 18pm to replace my 17pm

Already ordered ultra 4. Delivery this saturday

I can appreciate all the tech at work here. But it really pivots away from the concept of a phone for me personally. People have different needs but while it’s super cool I just don’t know how id use this in practice. My life and work is simply too boring.

I can see this as an excellent device for people whose primary computing device is a phone and there are a ton of them. I myself am one of those that just can't do important things on a phone (which sounds weird but I'm sure some people get it).

For my friends who dont even have computers this is perfect for them.

The duo costs 2399€ in Portugal! That’s more than what my MacBook Pro M5/32/512 costed me just a couple of months ago. If we convert the Us price to euros and add 23% vat it’s 2110€. Guess they compensated the lower price in US by a disproportionately higher increase in Europe. Let’s see how that goes.

$2k is more than a combined purchase of an $800 iphone 18, Macbook Neo $600, Airpods 5 $130, and an Apple Watch $400.

So the Fold has that going for it to start with.

2nd, lots of jedi mind tricks in the presentation.

Watching video on it with black bars going to result in a screen probably not bigger than a Max.

Multitasking will be tedious between 2 apps still.

Using apps in big screen mode probably not more appealing than just using one handed on a regular iphone in my experience from using an iPad and iPHone. I dumped my Ipad years ago because in the end iPhone was enough and preferred one hand use of apps much of the time. For heavier lifting ...move to the Mac.

Fragility. AGain $2k comes into play there too. But the fold thing...how does it hold up after a year of use. And how does it all hold up after a drop?

The flashy open/close effects were nice but in the past I've found the appeal of that stuff to be fleeting.

Did anyone for a second believe your NEtflix discovery will be made better by the Fold because you can open it to watch the show when you found something interesting?

OK it's a sales presentation and they sell the sizzle not the steak.

Then what is experience of using the device unfolded? How stable is the hinge? Is their any wobble day one? What about after 6 months? An iPad is a rock solid sheet of metal and glass obviously in comparison.

I'll go back and watch it again because I didn't digest everything but what does it really solve (for me) ? Nothing really except would give me street cred with the ladies for a year or two until everyone had one or it fades and dies out.

I was more interested in the 1 number, 2 phones feature coming starting in Europe.

Maybe of early onset old guy mentality I have these days. LIke I'd rather stash a 2nd phone somewhere as a backup that I can instantly use on the same phone number in case of emergency sort to speak and not lose a beat. Also could use everyday as essentially double the battery life. Completely drain one phone and switch to the other without losing a beat.

I guess that's why Apple introduced the one phone number for two iPhones feature, if you buy a Duo, its kinda bulky for all use cases. Maybe use your older iPhone for those that don't require your Duo. Smart.

Is the “Get Ready” button not live? Want to get the finance sorted before pre orders go live but it just has the “Continue” button greyed out.

I am sad there will no special version that supports physical nanoSIMs. So, no borrowing SIM cards with family members in foreign countries.

Not always. Sometimes the price is lower on the same exchange rate situation.
Just to note. In September 2022, I posted about how they increased the price in the UK, and received a bunch of replies about how the GBP was weak against USD and that Apple would likely cut prices if GBP strengthened.

4 years later, GBP has risen approx 25-30% against USD and I have not seen any price cuts.
