$2k is more than a combined purchase of an $800 iphone 18, Macbook Neo $600, Airpods 5 $130, and an Apple Watch $400.
So the Fold has that going for it to start with.
2nd, lots of jedi mind tricks in the presentation.
Watching video on it with black bars going to result in a screen probably not bigger than a Max.
Multitasking will be tedious between 2 apps still.
Using apps in big screen mode probably not more appealing than just using one handed on a regular iphone in my experience from using an iPad and iPHone. I dumped my Ipad years ago because in the end iPhone was enough and preferred one hand use of apps much of the time. For heavier lifting ...move to the Mac.
Fragility. AGain $2k comes into play there too. But the fold thing...how does it hold up after a year of use. And how does it all hold up after a drop?
The flashy open/close effects were nice but in the past I've found the appeal of that stuff to be fleeting.
Did anyone for a second believe your NEtflix discovery will be made better by the Fold because you can open it to watch the show when you found something interesting?
OK it's a sales presentation and they sell the sizzle not the steak.
Then what is experience of using the device unfolded? How stable is the hinge? Is their any wobble day one? What about after 6 months? An iPad is a rock solid sheet of metal and glass obviously in comparison.
I'll go back and watch it again because I didn't digest everything but what does it really solve (for me) ? Nothing really except would give me street cred with the ladies for a year or two until everyone had one or it fades and dies out.
I was more interested in the 1 number, 2 phones feature coming starting in Europe.
Maybe of early onset old guy mentality I have these days. LIke I'd rather stash a 2nd phone somewhere as a backup that I can instantly use on the same phone number in case of emergency sort to speak and not lose a beat. Also could use everyday as essentially double the battery life. Completely drain one phone and switch to the other without losing a beat.
