You don't need cameras for vr....AR for sure

Yes, you need cameras to capture VR movies for use with VR.

What does the camera have to do with VR? AR, yes. VR, no.

Go do a web search for VR camera. Get it?

Well, if this is close to being "real" I'm loving it. :apple:

AR. :apple:

VR....

Horizontal cameras in landscape mode - perhaps for left/right arrangement like our eyes?

Completely unecessary for AR. However, for taking VR video...hence the term, VR, that so many people here think must be a mistake but are just wrong...

Hmmm.... choices....

1) Better picture quality.
2) Slight bump.

I think most people would choose (1) since they put a case on the phone anyway. You can only engineer away the physics of light so much.

I got the SE right now... love the form factor, and really hope that Apple stays true to this design, at least for one model. While the curved edges on the Samsung phones look cool, I don't think they are very practical.

I think people have been arguing since camera bumps came about that the phones just don't need to be thin for the sake of being thin. I'm sure the majority of phone buyers would prefer an extra 1mm thickness with larger battery and no weird bumps over shaving ever more thickness off for no practical reason...

Why do you think it's necessary to have two cameras to video the real world for a VR video, but not AR, which would be exactly the same but a live video, adding augmented components?

If the polished steel frame rumor is true, [...] that frame will easily dent.
I would worry more about scratching than actual denting.

Ignoring the text of his article for a moment, just wanted to say that this mockup looks amazing, resembling my all time favorite 4 and 4S models.
Proportions between black and metal and device thickness are much more favorable on the 4(S) for my liking. And the round camera opening on the 4(S) is more harmonious than the long oval on the rendering.

That mockup doesn't even come close to the 4(S) in terms of design. But that's all personal preference, of course :)

Exactly - the circular camera on the 4 followed the curve of the corner, it was harmonious design, something Apple lost (for whatever reason) ever since. I'm still unsure why there's such desire for glass/metal backing when modern plastics, such as those on upmarket car interiors, offer superior toughness, practicality (grip/signal strength) and arguably nicer texture and soft feel while not needing to feel cheap or light as they did years ago... You can mix them with the steel band and glass front for a very upmarket and more practical design.

I almost got the Galaxy S8 yesterday. I'm tired of waiting for Apple to do something fresh with the iPhone and my 6s has been acting weird lately. The other problem is there's probably zero chance I'll be able to easily get one of the new phones this year anyway. I'm ready to change, I just can't mentally go there, I hate android. So I'm stuck with Apple. I just want a reason to stay, I'd love it if they did a big briefing next month and announced the stuff that's coming this fall just to give us something to get excited for and a reason to wait.

No, it sucks. The iPhone 4 was very easy to damage due to the metal frame, the 6 and 7 design was / is way better.
i'm sorry but any device can be easily damaged.

there is nothing about the current design that would look better than a glass back

I like this look.
nah the glass needs to sit flush with the band. That curved screen into the stainless band doesn't look right. One thing i didn't like about the 4 design was the glass wasn't flush. Same deal with the 5 it was almost flush but still popped out slightly and bugged me. It should be smooth and flush like how the glass curves into the body on the 6 and up

iPhone Editon, iPhone X, iPhone 8. I think Apple should take this opportunity to rebrand the new phone, :apple: Phone. and still offer the iphone 7s and 7s+

For me it's the opposite. The sharper corners and the glass are not as slippery as aluminum.
I managed to damage the 6s screen two times while zero on the 4s.

To be honest it may be worth android another go, galaxy s8 looks like a fantastic device. Would be cool if we could get like a preview at wwdc for what we'll get in the fall but it is what it is. There's always gunna be the next big thing though, so if you need a phone get one.

Only about the looks........ That it scratches and break more frequent is not a concern, we will put a ugly bumper and two screen protectors on it. Yeah!

That's true, but when it falls the 4/5 design was a horror: always damage. This is not the case with 6/7 design. Note that with the 4/5 you can break both the front and the back side glass :)

Sure if you are clumsy and not using a case has never been a smart decision. If I was to go case less then Apple care would be needed but until they build phones that give you enough grip it seems pointless not having a case on in the first place

The Apple Watch Edition went down like a lead balloon so I don't think they will return to that name.

iPhone SE will be replaced by 4" & 4.7" Apple Phone.

iPhone 7 Plus will be replaced by 5.5" Apple Phone Pro

Yeah, that's the problem I don't need one. I'm just ready for something new, different and better. I was excited to have the 7 - first time I ever had a device on launch day and was disappointed that there wasn't enough changes to justify spending another $1,000 so I sent it back.

No, dual horizontal lenses would be much more advantageous to AR than VR. As I mentioned before, it would make for better tracking and implementing objects in a 3D world. I'm well aware that VR cameras exists as I've shot and edited their footage. VR cameras require, at a minimum, two 180 degree lenses. One on the front and one on the back so that you can stitch those two images into one 360 degree view. Most VR cameras have more than two lenses/sensors to get a better capture. Adding a second lens horizontally on the back of the iPhone aids in stereoscopic video, but not 360 degree video.

You claim that so many of us around here are wrong, and if that's the case, please explain.

Definitely understand that the S8 is super tempting, almost hit that pre-order button a couple of times lol. i'm gunna wait for the note 8, iPhone 8, Pixel 2 and choose from those three
