I thought this was a cute story, with an adorable young lady with a beautiful smile. It's kind of funny that everyone has overlooked the one single message clearly being sent to us by "Iphone Girl" and that is clearly visible in her pictures. "Iphone Girl" has two fingers sticking up making the sign of "PEACE".

This picture brings me back to my childhood days when my dad used to tell us to make the peace sign when he would take our pictures. Then when I had children, their grandpa would continue the tradition of telling the children to make the peace sign with every picture. My dad was very young when World War II occured in his country. He used to say that the one common hand gesture they had to communicate with the Soldiers was the PEACE sign. So this simple sign language has spanned generations in my family and continues to be used by teenagers here in California (albeit slightly slanted to the left =).

I think it's pretty cool that the message of peace is being sent out by Iphone Girl. :)

Below is a picture of Iraqi kids in Fallujah.

The peace sign seems to be universal among us all. Pretty cool!

The kids in that photo

"Of course China is going to say she's not fired. She's probably long gone"

I brought my family to southern China recently. We saw 7-11's, many Starbucks, and people living normal lives. We ate exceptional Chinese food. We didn't notice any factory worked being summarily executed while we were there.

On the other hand, on April 23, 2003 American soilders fired on a crowd of 200 people in Fallujah protesting a school they had usurped for military use. Half the crowd was struck by bullets and 17 of them died. Many were left disabled. Two days later when the locals gathered together to protest the shooting the Americans fired at them again and more died.

The Americans ended up destroying 36,000 of Fallujah's 50,000 civilian homes! Many of the children on the preceding post were most likely killed by American soldiers who were "liberating them" with an illegal war based on lies over WMD they didn't have.

I'm certainly not going to defend China's actions with respect to Darfur. But people who live in glass houses should be careful before throwing stones.

that was the most boring lecture ive ever heard.

When I worked in the refurb dept. of a major European online technology store here in France, I used to take pictures with all of the cameras to make sure they worked, and I can't lie: sometimes I took pictures of 'funny things' and left them on the camera on purpose.

During World War II and for many years before and after this was the sign for "victory."

IS SHE FIRED or NOT

The representative did confirm that she was an employee at the Shenzhen factory and that it was likely that the test photos were left on the iPhone's memory "accidentally".

If she WAS that means the she no longer works there right?

i like how lots of us joined just so we could make comments on iphone girl. so does anyone know this girls real name. honestly if everyone is going to play out her future life story as a result of this attention at least keep it positive. i like to think that this butterfly effect will have a positive impact on her life. she looks pretty happy to me so i hope she stays that way.

In other news you may find interesting, Hitler once gave someone a delicious sandwich, while Abraham Lincoln caused the Civil War, killing untold millions.

With your insightful analysis, we can help shine the light of truth on who the REAL villains of history are.

Bravo, Sir!

Wow thanks for the attack.

I guess I figured that the photos would be of interest to the wider iPhone community and it would appear my guess was correct given the hundreds of thousands of hits across the Internet. Unfortunately yes it was a risk to post them but if it's judged to be in the public interest then I think the decision was the correct one - at the end of the day the girl in the photo is ultimately responsible for her actions.

Take a chill pill.
Public interest? Gossip you mean? Or is there any other hidden value in it?

And while her action ultimately started it, your action is the one that blew it out of proportion. I can imagine that you didn't anticipate it, but I can't imagine that anyone with even a minimum of empathy wouldn't regret it. It's a shame.

Suddenly, the bitter advertising battle between Apple and Microsoft has made a dramatic turn.

Who would have thought that Microsoft, after paying Jerry Seinfeld $10 million to promote its products, was beaten black-and-blue by a humble factory worker from Shenzen, China. And it didn't even cost Steve Jobs' a single dollar to stir a global phenomenon for the Iphone of this magnitude. Just yesterday, I even saw a retail store at the mall with a large Iphone Girl glossy blow-up picture on its front door advertising the gadget and other electronic stuffs.

Careful bro, 21 year Sailor here that got my account here killed for a few days for telling the same thing to a pro communist liar saying something along the same lines on this same thread. Those posts were removed. Enjoy your ban with pride and thank you for doing the right thing.

it's cool man. Let them believe what they want.

Tht come as suprise

That come with a suprise to have tht cute pic in mobile and i hope so bring smile on customer face & the girl get so much publicity worldwide

I have to agree. I can see this as a forum topic, but it was posted as news on macrumors.com/iphone, as though this is some wide-spread iPhone-related issue that is going to affect everyone. Huh???

For the forum and not news: I don't see why the girl would ever be fired; she is not the one that took the picture. If anything, they would go to the girl in the picture and say "who took the picture?," and the person responsible for taking the picture would be the one reprimanded.
On China's factory using the word "accidentally," they are practically screaming the words "cover up." I've never seen such compassion out of that country "oh, it was an accident. everyone makes mistakes. we're human." Yeah Right!!! I've watched several documentaries on China on the History and Discovery channels. Those people don't even know what compassion is!

Then again, it is my experience that Corporate America tends to be, if anything, ANTI-compassionate.

Just as a side note, reeducation sentences are still widely used in China.

For example:

Chinese grannies' sentence, for applying for protest, revoked under world glare

As for the factory, yep it looks nice. No doubt a LOT nicer than where iPhone Girl lives.

I spent a year in the military in the far east, did years of intelligence work on the area, and I've traveled in China as a guest of their government.
