Wow, I can't even update... says the download is corrupted! First time this has ever happened to me. I've tried 3 times now and keep getting this message: (see screen shot)

May I suggest deleting the ipsw file on your computer? It's located in the ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ folder.

That's the thing, it's not even there. Once I get that error message, it automatically deletes the download. And every time I try to redownload I get the same message. And my download is pretty fast since I have a highspeed connection, so it's not timing out or anything...

Anyone have a link to the firmware download from the Apple site so I can try and manually do this?

updated, everything looks good.

backup and install took near forever, and iTunes kinda stalled after the install (and subsequent iPhone reboot) -- having the candystripe "Looking for iTunes Store" stuck up at the top of the iTunes interface. iPhone was fine, but had to shut down iTunes to get it to stop "looking."

only real difference i "think" i noticed is that on the iTunes interface, it no longer has a bar for how much space the "Apps" are taking (used to be an orange bar, I believe).

well this is a first for me,

but at my home i don't have 3g. well for the first time it's showing 1 bar of 3g now.

it flip-flopped to edge (4 bars) then back to 1 bar 3g once and it's been on 3g since.

could be AT&T just happened to be upgrading the towers today (doubt it since you'd think i'd get more than 1 bar) or maybe the firmware did do something.

I had 2 bars of 3G at work on my desk, upgraded to 2.02, now it's a tiny bit better, 50% of the time it's 3 bars depending where it is on my desk, but right now it's at 2 bars again.

Frankly, I don't think this update does much. It's probably pushed for the 22 new countries coming online on Friday, i.e. Apple has added network settings, etc. for the new countries.

upgrading from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 now..

installed the software now its doing its backup thing which is still going after 2 hours!!

wtf?!?! the first backup always takes HOURS :(

SMS character counter?

Is there a way to see how many SMS messages you're sending/how many characters you're using?

I like to fit everything into one SMS, and not send two, when I'm using just over 160 characters.

GPS is worse for me

Hey Guys,

I live in Germany. Have a 3G 16 meg. I have had some wild results with the GPS.

With 2.0, it frequently said I was in Milan - I wish.
With 2.01, it worked almost perfect
With 2.02, it can't quite put me on the street. It has me driving through houses or even past intersections. It seems the triangulation is a bit off.

Here is hoping 2.1 fixed the GPS issue once and for all....

2.0.2 downloaded and installed no problem, but the backup still took >1 hour.
After upgrade, backup, and sync, disconnected my iPhone - gee, guess what - all non-pre-installed Apps quit back to home screen on start-up - NO working Apps!! Did a hard reset, plugged it back in, after 2 hours, still backing up - I can bet i will have to do a restore, so I want a complete, uninterrupted backup for when I do this.

Anti-pwnage

I have a feeling that the only "enhancement" in the 2.0.2 update is that it disables the 2.0.1 pwnage jailbreak. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple were obligated by AT&T/etc to release an update every time the jailbreak tool is updated to work with the current version.

No 3G Update Included

I can almost guarantee that no 3G fix was included. I live in the middle of Los Angeles 91601. Lot's of 3G in my area. I can't get 3G in my house, and still have problems getting it outside my house.

Last week I was on a remote island in Hawaii (off of Maui), and 3G came in great. Go figure.

I love turning off 3G when I get home, and turning on 3G when I get to work. Only 47 months left!

Best Advice For Iphone 3g Owners

BEST ADVICE FOR IPHONE 3G OWNERS...

Return your phone to the Apple or ATT store for immediate replacement.

Since only 2% of iPhone 3Gs are affected, that pretty much narrows this down to a hardware problem like a bad chipset. Even if Apple fixes the problem through software, most likely Apple's software solution is probably going to slow down the phone slightly to compensate for Infineon's bad chipsets and memory that fails to meet spec.

I would not under any circumstances settle for a software quick fix for what is obviously a hardware problem.

By the way, no, I don't have an iPhone 3G, but I do have an iPhone 2.5G and don't have this problem nor would I accept a quick fix software update for such a problem.

My opinion is that Apple should recall the affected phones and probably already knows the affected serial#s already. For a phone this expensive, I think Apple's response is quite poor and I say that as a lifelong Apple fan & Mac user since 1987.

2.0.2 Seems to fix the bookmarks bug which if you sync'd bookmarks and then decided not to, and deleted them all, you could not delete "Bookmarks Bar" and "Bookmarks Menu" folders.

Well my "Bookmarks Bar" and "Bookmarks Menu" folders have disappeared now I am on 2.0.2.

(But maybe this was fixed in 2.01) and I did not notice.

would a firmware update somehow change the phone's mac address? that doesnt seem to make sense, but i just updated and now it isn't able to get on my wifi network (which i have protected by mac address restriction). hmmm....

This shouldnt matter should it? On the phone you could send a message as long as you want and it only shows as one message. I'd be pretty annoyed if I found out I was sending 3 messages when there is no warning of this on the phone

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

neat. If you hold your finger on a link for a second or two you get a large type preview of the link text.

Is this new?
