I still got contacts lag...

Safari seems faster though

Anyone notice if this update fixed the SMS no sound alert bug?

I dont always hear sounds when a SMS comes in. Usually a reboot fixes it.

This update was way better then the last one for me.

Took about 20 minutes

all apps still work (unlike last time)

All media is accounted for.

full bars of 3G (never had a problem with 3G here)

Snappier etc.

good stuff

now let's see how long it takes for an app to crash..so far so good
:)

My wife's 2G iPhone still sucks after the update.
Leaving mine as is for now. ;)
Hers still has the keyboard lag issue in SMS and Safari. (new bug) Now she can't dial a phone # manually, can only call from phone book. Rebooted a couple of times and that problem disappeared.

Big thumbs down on this release.

Going back to 1.1.4
At least it is stable.

It's not an easy process going back to 1.1.4, just letting you know. You have to downgrade iTunes and a bunch of other stiff. It just doesn't seem worth the trouble to me.

Crashing on App Store applications?

Just wanted to help people who have this problem: I downloaded 2.0.1 with no problems, but with 2.0.2 ALL my downloaded App Store apps were crashing (although the standard apps like Safari and Mail worked fine). I tried installing another app like Paper Football. It took two reboots and 20-30 minutes before it finished installing, but after that, all my apps started working again. Yay.

iPhone 3G 16GB White. Never p0wn3d.

Normally, I immediately install updates to my iPhone or iMac. This will be a first for me, but I'm going to sit tight and bypass this...at least for the next day or two or week. ;)

I have a "pretty stable" 2.0.1 (jailbroken) phone that is working for me and tweaked just the way I like. Unless more definitive and compelling info about this update becomes available I may just wait until 2.1 (assuming it's still coming in Sept. as rumored).

People don't seem to understand that when you switch from 3G to EDGE on any phone you drop the call. The two are two totally different ways of making a call.

That is wrong.

Nearly all networks support handing over mid call. It has been working fine for many years on other 3G handsets.

Most of Hutchison Three's networks don't (for billing reasons). The networks in Japan and Korea don't but they don't need to (they have no GSM networks).

How in the hell can it take more time to upgrade my iPhone software than it does to install a freaking OS on an Apple computer??

20 minutes to download.

30 minutes to back up.

10 minutes to install.

It's outrageous!

I wish I'd never heard the words 3G and iPhone in the same sentence.

OK, as for the 3G 2.0.2 update. It's a no go folks. My phone still looses connection (even though it says 5 bars of 3G) I can not place or receive calls, text messages are not coming in. So, I guess back to the drawing board Steve.

Meanwhile, my replacement 3G phone is working great. So you see, proof positive that the guy who said it was a bad batch of chips is right.

SUCK IT UP STEVE and just replace all the defective batch of phones. Sending my old defective 3G back to Apple tomorrow before they charge me $500 for it. LOL

Thank you!

Corrupted File!?

Wow, I can't even update... says the download is corrupted! First time this has ever happened to me. I've tried 3 times now and keep getting this message: (see screen shot)

Great, it's done that thing where it corrupts something meaning all your music is gone and your apps don't launch.

Second restore in two days, this is getting old apple, updates shouldn't break stuff like that!

Me too. What's going on with this bug. One developer said each app runs in its own sandbox; if true this is a major Apple bug.

Oh, well, another 2 hours lost.

I downloaded it. If anything, it has sure made my iPhone 3G seem to be much quicker in accessing different applications. Like lightning fast, compared to before.

Now, whether this has anything to do with 2.0.2, or not, I don't know, but, in my apartment, before the update, I had no "bars" on 3G. Now, I am getting 3 "bars", and when I go to maps, and use search, it finds my actual location, rather than the general area, while I'm inside my apartment. It never did that, while I was in my apartment, before the update!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I haven't been having the issues that many others seem to have, with the exception of having lag when going into the contacts. That was corrected, for me, in 2.0.1. So, I have been lucky. I debated even downloading this latest update, for fear of actually causing problems that I didn't have. However, my iPhone 3G appears to be fine, and as I said, quicker.

First phonecall I made after updating dropped 4 times in a row, every minute, basically.
Not sure if it was just a fluke or if it's a real problem.
We shall see.

So it looks like its the same ol story as 2.0/2.0.1, the lag is still there amongst other issues which is just plain ridiculous. In all my time with Apple i haven't seen this, 2 FW updates and practically nothing's changed

Looks like i'll still be staying with 1.1.4 yet again, also NOT upgrading to iPhone 3G seems to have been a good decision

had some pretty bad reception at home before, mostly 1 bar - improved greatly with 2.0.2, got 4 bars now most of the time....also didn't have any dropped/bad quality calls since the update, as opposed to pre 2.0.2!

For me no problems. Contacts are seriously faster and even the quick scroll in the right side is insanely smooth. JUST LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN 1.1.4.

Nevermind. It's all good.

Happy iPhone Customer

I am living in Indianapolis, IN and have great 3G coverage. I have never dropped a call in the middle like others although some calls do fail when I dial them for the first time. I have never had the call fail twice in a row however, just tap "Call Back" and I am on my way.

I know of 6 other iPhone 3Gs that are not effected by the "2%" problem. My update take about 15 minutes start to finish, and that includes downloading the update, backing up the phone, and installing the update. I only have 7 3rd Party apps on my phone, so that might be part of it.

I have had Windows Mobile phones for the past 4 years including the Moto Q and the HTC Mogul. I have to say that the iPhone is head and shoulders above the competition. I have faith that Apple will get the kinks smooted out and the phone will be a great platform over the years.

I would also remind 3G users that your phone is only about a month old. That means you are an early adopter and get to deal with all of the early adopter perks!

I have an iPod touch and push still works for me. I wonder why it's not working for some iPhone users.

Weeeeeeird. My iPod never used to have my .Mac account listed. It only had @me.com listed. Now, ever since the update, it has both. I wonder why.
