Done, worked like a charm...yeah I got the activation screen too but I just let it go through that, it reestablishes the connection to the computer via usb and then is back to normal.

Anyone else still getting the "Your iphone is running the latest version (1.0.2)" message? I'm guessing it's due to my still being on an old version of iTunes (7.3.1.3).....

I like the way people are sitting there waiting for other people to report their iPhones got bricked.

Spare a thought for the Russian Roulette players amongst us.

For anyone who was resisting 7.4.2 because you added your own ringtones using that m4a->m4r method, 1.1.1 does remove them.

So now i'm updating to 7.4.2 finally. oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

Gotta say, this seems like a let down....I'm not sure I"ll update unless someone actually verifies that volume is much better. But it's probably even more locked down now, and iTunes wifi music store is not an incentive to upgrade at all. I really don't need another way to spend money on a device I've already spent a lot on. Landscape email attachments, great, how about landscaping everywhere? How about that landscaped keyboard in other programs? Plus this update is like a choice between locked down with some bug fixes and the iTMS versus the unlimited potential of third party apps through installer.app on 1.0.2.

Come on already Apple, people expect more, open up!

Nikos at everything iphone reports that the update kills an unlocked phone!!!!!

Incorrect SIM after updating unlocked phone!

I should be able to reactivate using iNdependence, but I need a download link to the 1.1.1 software. Are they out there yet?

I'm just interested to know if any unlocked iPhones are not working after the update. And if so, which unlocking method did the owners use?

Planning on getting on in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers.

Just finished installing (for reference I had installer.app with a few apps including Springboard, MobileChat, Fivedice). Install went fine but AppTap is definitely gone. Icons are nowhere to be found (except for that purty new purple one ;)

I think most of the frantic ranters have now passed out from exasperation and are unable to install the update and that's why no one has posted back. I haven't installed any 3rd party apps, and I can't wait to do the update.

So I think everyone who has AppTapp has the same questions:

1) What happens when you try to upgrade? Does iTunes warn that it needs to restore and then update? Does everything still work OK after that?

2) Can I just restore my phone first and then update? Everything OK after that?

See my previous post. The install was just the same as if I hadn't had the software to begin with, but after the upgrade all Apptap programs and Installer.app are gone. Not a bricked iPhone, but I'll definitely miss the games and MobileChat (at least for a few days/hours/whatever until they figure out how to hack it again)

Ok, more news:

-phone volume DOES seem improved (ring, notifications and music thru ipod)
-phone seems a LOT snappier. things open faster and switch MUCH faster
-using a BT headset now shows the battery power next to the phones indicator
-ipod/safari doesnt crash... tried several times
-ipod resumes MUCH smoother after a call

...still testing...

I ran the install, I lost Navizone, IToner, everything...

All for the ITunes Wi-Fi music store, whooopy..

FYI, I did the update with appinstaller, installed and my phone was moded..

*Note*- I didn't have the SIM unlocked, so can't say if you have an "Unlocked" phone, you're phone won't brick if you do the update..

I am sure iToner will work again very soon. They have been great so far at getting things fixed in a short period of time. I hope they can get things working soon!!
