The pinch feature is amazing

keyboard will take a bit to get used to, especially if you have large fingers

warmer than I thought it would be on the back side in the dock

a grease magnet

but worth the six month wait :D

It took about 8 or 9 seconds to load the wikipedia.org frontpage on EDGE... and about 20-23 seconds loading the "APPLE" wikipedia article on EDGE.

In my opinion, it really isn't that bad so far. I know EDGE sucks but it is very doable.

Is there an option in safari to turn off images?

All I keep getting after I hit "continue" on the Billing Information for Apple and AT&T screen is "The iTunes Store is unable to process purchases at this time." WTF!?

iPhone looks and feels great, but AT&T may be having activation issues. iTunes activation ends on, "Your activation requires additional time to complete. An email will be sent to ... once your activation is complete."

A quick call to AT&T indicates that, "things are really backed up." That was useful.

Still, great to have one in house.

yeah, i'm having the problem right now. i am not happy about it either

I was in Wisconsin at the Kenosha AT&T store. I was the first set of people in (they let 12 in at a time). After playing with the demo units while waiting to be wrung up, I was awestruck. The phone is everything I thought it would be and more. It seems a lot smaller (in a good way) in person.

Pictures will be posted soon.

Just activated my wifes. I activated mine at 7 and it went through fine. At 7:30, hers was very slow (the activation process).

But it eventually worked and these are two beautiful phones. The screens alone are worth the price of admission.

Amazing.

Just made our first two calls (to our Moms!)

Patience, young Grasshopper. :)

I can imagine that they'll be getting bombed pretty hard all evening. Understandable. But, they should have provisioned a bit of extra server processes to handle the initial load, with DNS distributing the load over many, many IPs.

That would be aggravating beyond the extreme. I take it the other functions of the phone are working right now? Or is everything still locked?

Yep, I'm also waiting for my activation email! Everything is still locked! At least I get to move the emergency slider back and forth!:p Oh, and I can call 911.
"...But this really IS an emergency! My iPhone won't activate!..."

My got my iPhone at the Clarendon Apple Store today (as some of you may have read from the iPhone blog).

I have it home, and have begun playing around with it. Activation wasn't an issue for me... shot through without an issue. I'd say less than 10 minutes.

Graphics are GORGEOUS, but I suppose many of you expected that. I have already gotten smudges on the screen... I expect I will be wiping this thing on my shirt a lot to keep it pristine.

It's also a lot smaller than I thought it'd be.

The "home" button is a physical button.

As some reviewers noted, the camera doesn't do so well in low-light.

Oh yeah... and EDGE. NOT BAD!!! Loaded MacRumors (Ad version) in about 30 seconds. Had 4/5 bars of signal. I can live with it, i'd say.

Same thing here.... no activation, yet no email about it, waiting, going on 30mins now...:(

Thanks for all this great info, grantrobarts, it's appreciated! Are you going to write a full review, or just respond to posts as they come?

I am sure within the coming day(s) there will be some very good full reviews. But I am happy to answer any specific questions people may have. Respond, PM, or IM me @ gkrobarts.

Oh, and if anyone cares, Google docs does work on the iPhone.

Just wait for touch screen iPods, I'm sure they will be here in a few months. I am holding out in hope of wifi and safari. Im sure I will be disappointed.

Isn't this device designed to replace the large video iPods eventually? I would imagine that only the Nano and Shuffle would remain in the future and if you want full capabilities you can buy an iPhone. Right now memory capacity cannot compete with the HD, but in a year or two flash based memory should come down in price.

Still waiting for that email

I was actually at Clarendon too, about 5 people behind you. Been waiting for that email for more than an hour now, while trying not to obsessively play with the emergency call slider.

Wonder if it's because I'm transferring to AT&T from Verizon.

same here, taking about 40 minutes so far on one, the other on the existing family plan is taking 20 minutes so far.

i somehow knew this would happen... my old phones already don't work, so something is happening, but it would be nice if the new ones were activated and i could play with em!!

I got one!!!!!!! Descript, picts and answers coming soon

Hey y'all. Got mine!!!! Sixth in line! Waiting for syncing to finish. Should only be a few more mintutes . . . . As soon as that is done, I will tkae it to spot and start taking some photos . .

(1) What angles do you guys want??

(2) Any particular screen that you want to see???

Let me know

I'm here for you guys!!

One thing. If you are transferring a LANDLINE number to your iPhone, you can make calls, but it could be 5-7 days before you can RECIEVE calls. Additional confirmation is needs and that apparently takes time, etc. So, I opted out of that . . . got a new number instead

Just FYI

I doubt this will be the case. I would imagine that they will continue to have the full size iPod (touch screen) for those people who don't want the phone aspect. I would imagine though that (at least initially) we will not be getting WiFi etc... Also, just a guess but I would say that the first touch screen iPods will still be HDD based for capacity...

This Sux!!!

Waiting for my activation for 30 mins... Cant even use my OLD phone... I AM PISSED!!!!! I cant believe they deactivate my old phone and cant even use the new one. ATT SUX!
