Triple crash
Well, I don't have an iPhone myself yet. But I just went to the new Apple store that opened up nearby and finally got to play with one. I wanted to show my son (who's been in South Korea for the past year) how cool it is.
The iPhone I picked up was displaying a contact list, so I showed him how easy it was to scroll through it. He was impressed. Then I showed him Safari. I typed an address into the address bar (my school's -- and I was amazed, having never used the virtual keyboad, how simple and fast it was). My school's website came up -- briefly. Then Safari crashed. So I restarted it and typed in a different address, my own website. The page partially loaded. (It's all simple HTML.) I clicked on a link with an image so I could show my son how to resize pictures. He was again impressed, but then Safari crashed again. So I tried one more time with yet a different address, and again Safari vanished and the main menu popped back up.
You'd figure that if an iPhone were to work well in just one place it would be at Apple's own store. It was disconcerting to see the thing crash so often. I hope Apple isn't starting to spread itself too thin. It's better to do a few things very well than do lots of things poorly. As cool as the concept of the iPhone is, if it doesn't work reliably in the store no one will buy it.
