Oh Yeah!

Also to you people complaining about size, the iPhone screen could be A LOT bigger without the phone itself being ANY bigger.

If you don't see the wasted real estate on the front you are blind. :)

The best iPhone concept ever...

Power users are really the only people who would appreciate a bigger screen.

My parents and sister barely use their iPhone 4's and to them the screen is huge.

I wish I had a bigger screen for games, AirDisplay, video watching, typing, web browsing, etc etc.

I don't think they will increase it for at least another generation. Currently apps display properly on all iPhone's, making different size screens would compromise that.

Android developers don't seem to have a problem with it and they have multiple size displays to deal with. And some of those developers are the same ones who develope for iphone. I think some of you just like to make excuses.

The best iPhone concept ever...
I knew this pic was coming. I really hoped that ip4 would have looked like this. Doesn't seem as far-fetched as before now that phones like the HD2 and others have such large screens with minimal bezels.

I wonder

So to all these people who don't want bigger screen. If let say apple will come out with bigger screen, is that mean you will abandon iphone and move to other brand? Or you will create havoc or you will suddenly change your mind and praise the new screen size and never admit that you don't like the idea of larger screen before? I hope I will see bigger screen for iphone one day and i want to see what is the reaction of all these people who against it.

All apple needs to do is move the front speaker and camera higher. A 4 inch screen will easily fit. All apps should scale fine to a new 1024x768 resolution since thats what the ipad has. Just a quick pic i edited to show.

iphone-4-reviews.jpg

have you considered that that is not physically possible with the parts they use?

the whole "well they can get rid of the borders" etc is hysterical, since there are other parts in the phone other than the screen...

This is crap. First of all, none of those cars have been a top seller. And most have gone with some sort of change whether it be on the interior or the exterior only.
We aren't talking about revamping the iphone, just moving/resizing a button and giving it a little bigger screen. They made minor changes to the ip4 and look how owners are saying how beautiful it is eventhough the front looks the same and is a china doll.
And BTW, the Taurus has been a top selling car though I've never owned one. So has the Honda Accord which also has undergone big changes.

Sales doesn't mean everything - just look at GM. Sells the most cars every year but that lead to bankruptcy.

Apple's business model is more like a BMW's. The brand is high end differentiation. In case of Apple, they are also an innovator that leads the industry in design and function - so they won't change their design to look like Android phones. If anything, Apple want their products to be different.

Branding is something the Android OEM struggles with because essentially all the Android phones are similar to the consumers. So they compete with each other more than with Apple - something they don't want to admit publicly.

Retina display is a nice revamp on the look of the front of the iPhone, but that's only if you have the iPhone screen on.

When the screen is off and you side it with the first iPhone they both look similar

now that apple has worked on the look of the screen now they need to work on the size and one more thing.

First we need a screen size upgrade. 3.7" - 4" is what I am asking for. enough said.

And that one more thing would be something I really would like to see and could really change the look of their products which is a slimmer border iPhone and the home button moving to the side of the device. I have seen some videos showing off what the iPhone would look like in further generations and I must say that with reducing the borders and increasing the screen size that the front of the device looks very modern and elegant.

as for the home button, IF apple doesn't put it as a side button, they can reduce the size of the home button giving more space for the screen and to reduce the borders.

Let me know what you think of on what I have said

Excellent post!

I like your ideas, but as you can see by many of the negative and juvenile comments, there is a lot of fear in the Apple community.

Fanboys greatest fear is change.

The only exception is if Uncle Steve says it's OK.

What you've got to remember is that it's not OK to think for oneself, unless of course its to be critical of others. For example, look at the first response to your post. There's a typical example of fanboy fear.

Here's another one. Just go to the iPad section of this forum and you will see pages and pages of fear and hate towards those who suggested they would like Apple to build a 7" iPad as an additional model. The angst and other emotional outbursts are hilarious. From my perspective it's both amusing and laughable that these so called "adults" act this way.

Even funnier, is now these same juveniles have to eat their own crap.

As it turns out it appears as though Uncle Steve is building a 7" iPad ..... :)

Now watch as they fall all over themselves to suck up to Uncle Steve...ha....ha....ha

So if the continuing rumors prove true, suddenly the lemming like fanboys will be bragging about Apple inventing the 7" size. They will never admit that Samsung beat them to it.

Apple fanboys, what a life...ha...ha...ha

Can you point me to where on Apple website is the 7" iPad? Or maybe a press release?

So you base your arguments on rumors? Ok - maybe this will brighten your day: Apple shares hit new 52-week high.

Stop posting jibberish. I really doubt there will be a 4" screen.

LET'S GET REAL: The iPhone screen next year WON'T be 3.5". If anything, it'd be 3.7" or 4". We've had the 3.5" way too long. Most of the competition is in the 4" or higher now. The Galaxy S screen is around 4" and it is JUST as good as retina display. So, its possible to have a larger screen with a great display. 3.5" was nice in 2007, but its a little small compared to others now. I'm guessing it'd be 3.7" or 4" next year.

An edge-to-edge display would be awesome.

it sounds nice but itd be very difficult to hold. With the slight bezel we have today, you can let your hand wrap around a little bit while holding it. With an edge to edge display, you may be touching buttons accidentally while holding it unless you gripped only the sides/back

Yeah edge to edge is not practical for a touch screen device, you need to be able to hold onto something.

speak for yourself, imo it is nowhere near the retina display

Agreed. Pentile matrix technology totally ruins the display.

The thing is how is Apple going to be able to increase the screen size without increasing the phone size and keeping current apps compatible?

Yes, a larger screen would be nice for many things.

But my device spends more time in my pocket than in front of my face. And I don't want to look like I have a perpetual pocket erection.

I think if apple does change anything it'll be something new and not something that is just following the trend.

I think iPhone users want a bigger screen so they can win the arguments with the android devices. I personally thing cellphones need to be small as possible and functional. If I need anything bigger I'll get an iPad.

Most likely this. All the ones saying the phone would be too big and dont want a bigger screen will embrace it. It's just that NOW they have a smaller one and that is why they wont admit they would like a bigger one. Its fanboyism.

Obviously a guess.. Better do some research because you are wrong. And who said anything about them should be looking like an Android? That is ridiculous. All some are saying is maybe a different front look should be needed and it doesnt have to be a huge change. Again, all they did was change the sides and add some glass to the back and most here are saying how beautiful it is and love the change even if it is a china doll and breaks more easily.

And no, they want a piece of Apples market share for sellng phones and the ARE cutting into it now. So, the only thing correct about your post at all is Apple likes to be different but they do so in a stubbornly way because Jobs is a douche.

i wish they'd improve the home button. it feels like crap compared to the ipad's. i've used about 8-10 different iphones, and all had cheap feel home buttons. you press them, and they don't press evenly. they always sink to either left or right side, never straight in the middle.

I would not mind if apple released two versions of the iphone next year. One with a hardware keyboard and one without. This combined with launchrs on verizon and t-mobile would be great for apple.

I still think the iPhone 4 looks beautiful on the front even with the screen off. It just looks sleek and simple. And you can see the edges of the steel bezel around the outside of the front when looking upon it. I don't think it looks obsolete at all. I still think it looks the best!

About the screen size, I think it is easy for everyone to say "I want a bigger screen", but I cannot even imagine the App nightmare with an upgrade like this. The retina display has proven difficult for many developers to support, and I cannot imagine adding another resolution to develop for to their list.

I mean look at the iPad. It is still taking quite a bit of time for a lot of apps to support the screen real estate and the resolution.

I am just being realistic here. Sure a 4 inch screen would be nice if Apple developed all the apps. However, the app store is their baby and one of the biggest selling features of the phone. Increasing the size would just splinter app development even more than it is. Let the developers get comfortable with the iPad and the iPhone 4 before we make their jobs even more difficult.

It has been a few months with the iPhone 4 yet I have many apps that still look crappy on the new resolution. Increasing the resolution a year later would surely frustrate them after taking so long to support the current hardware.

In my opinion, it just isn't the time yet. Maybe in a few years or something.

Also, the poster about moving the camera, speaker and sesnors up, you have to remember that they look proportions. If they did that, it would throw off the iPhones look by having more screen up top than at the bottom. If you look, the space above and below the screen is the same size on every iPhone to date. I doubt they would throw off that proportion without centering the screen.

The front of the iPhone is now iconic and instantly recognizable even without seeing the screen on. I would be very surprised if they changed that look any time soon.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

The front of my iPhone 4 looks just fine to me, and the screen size is fine as well. No need for any changes, IMHO.
My thoughts exactly.
