Don't know if anyone can shed any light on this, but I wonder if the SDK will give developers access to the actual phone part of the iPhone?

It would be such a welcome feature. I've never seen a phone do this, and I'm not surprised since cell phone companies only very rarely introduce useful features that benefit the customer only.

Sorry don't know the answer to question,
but another great feature would be that if you call your own phone it can play a short attention getting message, asking random strangers to pick up the phone. even maybe lock the phone with a wanted poster as the main screen.

First of all, enterprise has nothing to do with the commercial availability of iPhone or iPod touch apps. That's just not what the word enterprise means. My guess is that they'll announce compatibility with Microsoft Exchange.

Second: duh, of course we'll have to pay for apps. Whata re you a commie?

I don't get when people say this, what about all the amazing free apps for OS X? Developers spend time and money making them, but they still distribute them for free. Why is there any difference? Besides the closed nature of the iPhone/iPod touch software.

:apple:Matt

while the SDK is exciting it's not gonna sell a huge more amount of phones and theyre not gonna add massivley to the bottom line on the third party software. An enterprise initiative will sell more phones. Apple knows that it has to deal with enterprise in order to hit Blackberry/RIM where it hurts. I reckon that's hinted at on the software map. Enterprise first - iPhone into business and then I'm sad to say will come the SDK. I think we're going to have to wait a little yet

I wasn't treating Enterprise as a seperate issue but perhaps have a point....or not. We will find out exactly how they are going to have everything implemented very soon.

Enterprise is first if you are travelling left-to-right. But say we are travelling right-to-left. First, we have Software Update. That could very well have been the 1.1.4 that was just released. Next would be the SDK. That could be March 6th. And then finally we have Enterprise. I'm not saying that's probably what it means, but since we are just throwing about speculation on some vague promo graphic, I thought I'd put that out there. :D

The overarching thing is that it's first and foremost a phone. Jailbreaking is for those who want more than what Apple can offer whilst keeping it a working phone foremost

I hope that Steve won't be a dick to us and make us pay for the damn apps. I think that if apple let them be free their stock would benefit. People would then actually have a legit reason to get the phone. Maybe reaching the 10 million goal?
Whatever crack you're smoking; hook me up.

Awesome! Hoping for VoIP to work on my Touch. Hypothesis: they will drop the 8GB IPT and drop the 16 and 32GB down $100.

I just bought an 8GB Touch yesterday so that will probably happen. I'll still be within 14 days though so I can even exchange for a 16gb.

As i was syncing my stuff last night and quickly watching the 7.23gb fill up i was saying damn I shoulda got the 16gb.

What they will announce will be enough to instill FUD into corporate purchasers. If corporate stuff for iPhone isn't available right away (and the use of the word roadmap implies it won't be) then the next best tactic is to try and get corporate buyers to delay purchasing other devices.

Which I predict is what this shindig will be all about.

at last, a set date for the sdk. And the fact that apple is choosing to make a press event out of the release is only good news to me. Please, give us iChat!

Could there also be a chance that they might announce a 3G iphone on this date?!

Of course we are going to start paying for them. Not all, but the good ones will have a price tag on them.

I would bet the iPod Touch paid update was just a test.

The software is one thing I have been disappointed with in the iPhone. All this time it has been out and we could have at least gotten a couple of small widgets or something. What have we received, iTunes, another way to buy something from them.

Old news...

I received an invite to a 'Key Customer Briefing' on Feb 15... How did this get out in Australia before the US? Read the dot points... Should be an interesting event (!).
