any other O2 customers rang o2 and had the same offer as me?

£35, 600mins, 1000txts, unlimited data?

I have spent much of the afternoon on the phone (mostly listening to the dreadful o2 tune and waiting for the phone to be answered by a human being) and managed to speak to no fewer than five individuals on separate calls. 0870 call rates too, the robbing so and so's.

None of them even knew the proposed tariffs (even though I had them on their website in front of me) and the first four gave me a different number to call, passing me on to someone else. The fifth person was no better, barely speaking English and saying that all I could do was pre-register my interest on the internet. When nudged a bit she suggested that I call back on the 9th of November! Hopeless.

You've done well eenu. I hope that they honour their promise to you.

The deal looks good enough for me.

I think it was unrealistic to expect 3G now, or cheaper price plans.

I would have been disappointed if there was no EDGE and if wifi wasn't included - but given that both of these are covered then I'll be happy. I hope they plan to continue beyond 30% coverage for EDGE though - otherwise it will benefit such few people as to not be worth mentioning.

Also a shame they're not introducing 16GB version now too - I guess that will be coming in January. Not a big deal for me. I keep my music collection on a 160GB iPod Classic - so it doesn't make too much difference whether I squeeze 8GB or 16GB onto my iPhone as long as I've got something to listen to.

i'm not teasing i have said it multiple times throughout this thread but there are to many people posting crap that people don't see it. I am due for an upgrade of my O2 contract and they said i could have the iphone on £35 a month with 600mins and 1000txts and unlimited data plus i pay the 269 for the iphone. She has noted it on my account. I then rang back and spoke to a guy who i asked if the previous girl has made me an offer they can honour and he said yup

Hang on a minute, i've read most of this thread, but your comment confuses me. You're due an upgrade, yet you're not actually getting one, because you're paying £269 still correct? Can I assume you're just getting a 'better' tariff because of your loyalty? I just think, you should get both a tariff based on your loyalty and a handset at the very least, discounted. You would with other networks/handsets. I had a really good deal with Vodafone, when requesting to cancel my contract after 2-3 years of decent usage (bills on £50+).

By summer of next year at the latest, we'll probably see 3G iPhones in the US and the UK/EU and elsewhere that work with any carrier with reasonable plans

it's a five year exclusive agreement with at&t in the US.

So the results of this media event were very disappointing to me.

Should I just buy an iPhone now, or is there a chance we'll see a 16GB on September 25th?

So do i which is why i requested she note it on my account. I always got straight through..... number 2 on the menu system followed by the upgrades option. Please someone else confirm the same to me!!!

Personally, I have no problems with any of the things many people are moaning about - lack of 3g, camera pixels etc. I like what the iPhone is, and the functionality is perfect for my needs.

What is annoying me though is the number of things o2 seem to be doing to actually stop people from buying it - contract only, can't buy with cash etc.

Given that the phone itself is the same as the US version, I think I'll get one from the States now and unlock it.

Its a worse tariff than my existing one (not by much) but apparently they are allowing me to have the iphone with it which is much better than the cack they offer at £35 at the moment with it

WAIT UNTIL MACWORLD IN JANUARY. I wrote this on during the US release. Wait for version 2. You will be very dissapointed if you buy now!!!

Brilliant , I am an O2 premium customer (and am really happy with them btw, they have given me nearly £350 off my bills over the last 2 years as well as 2 new phones) and am due an upgrade any day now. Who do I call to get the ball rolling?

Just seen your post above will try them now and report back.

$399 = £200
VAT = £200 x 17.5% = £35

Seems there's a £34 premium for having it in the UK (not too bad when compared with other Apple products)

Sort of.

£269 / 1.175 = 229

$399 / 229 = $1.74 (the exchange rate). Yes, that's lower than the current $US and GBP rate due to a currently very depressed dollar, but it is close to the long-term average -- which is how these prices are set.

Anyway, the vote seems to be clear: the UK iPhone is not fully geek compliant. Therefore, it cannot possibly sell.

the upgrades line..... please reply and confirm they are doing the same for you as for me

Hang on a second, there's always an event in the middle of the year - you'd better wait until around June '08! You'll be sorry otherwise!

Seriously - it's technology. There's always something new, something better. Just sell the old on eBay and get the new, that's what I always do with Apple kit, and luckily Apple kit doesn't really lose much value as it goes along.

for eenu

eenu, is this an offer for ALL the O2 customers or only the ones almost at the end of a contract or eligible for an update?

can you please provide the number to call and full details on how to get this deal? who did you talk to?

It's hardly insightful to suggest that people will prefer version two to version one. Heck, you might as well wait for MacWorld in January of 09 to buy version three (or four!) the even cooler phone for less money!

As an initial buyer of an 8 GB iPhone, I can say that I'm glad I bought when I did and would have been very disappointed to have to wait until version two. I think you'll find many others around here think the same way.

You're very right. But I want an iPhone now. January 08 is 3 months away. I can sell mine and get a new one then, because you're right. I will want it.

Version 2 will pack a whole new array of hardware and software upgrades.

Wrong Network

Dont get me wrong, i am a big apple fan. Turned the house all apple and work. But that said putting the iphone on O2 big mistake. This is he only Apple product that i will not be getting. The network is full and has never been any good.

Ah. So we're screwed. :D

Seriously, I've been on AT&T since my first cellphone, so no big deal for me. But I am sure the hackers will keep working to make it more usable for those who prefer other carriers.

For the 10th or 11th time. My contract expired in August with O2 i am due for an upgrade i rang the contracts customer service number 08706003009 option 2 then the upgrades option and i have spoken to 2 separate agents on that line.

This is a joke: the phone was shown in January, and couldn't be released then (supposedly) due to the FCC...the FCC doesn't matter here, so we really are getting a **** deal for a great phone...

Guess I'll wait a few years until I get an Apple mobile...
