Hmm. Well I just called them back and spoke to two different people, and not to rain on your parade but I think you're going to have a problem with that.

First of all, the 600/1000 tariff doesn't have unlimited data built in. Secondly, they absolutely point-blank wouldn't budge on the 'crappy tariff' - in fact they didn't actually know the details but I said to them "If you put me down for that tariff on that phone now and if, like you're saying to me, details become clearer nearer the time to my detriment, will you honour the deal?" and they said - "Well we're not making a deal with you, because it's too far away. Can't be done, sorry". I told them about your deal and both operators gasped and said "Wow - well that's not going to happen. That's a mistake. We can't do that."

Or words to that effect.

So I'm confused how you managed it but hey, I guess time will tell! Maybe you're the luckiest man in the world but something tells me it won't work out that way...

I got a similar response, but good luck to you eenu. :)

What? The Brits thought they would get anything different then the US launch (aside from the price).

All the same complaints that the US made before the launch.

Lets see what happens on release day...

i don't.... it said '-unlimited data' in other words without unlimited data (hence the -) :p

So you cant really compare it and say the iPhone plan is a much poorer deal. Its a different kind of deal. Apples and Oranges and all that.

Haha pretty good? They're infinitely better:

Now try roaming abroad. £10/Mb (=$20/Mb) on some plans!

Very much depends upon your plan.

Still don't know how much O2 are going to steal from us for roaming charges.

To everyone claiming that 3G is "just around the corner": maybe you should check out what Steve said about 3G and acceptable battery life today.

Yes, same garbage he was spouting earlier this year. Personally I don't believe it.

My belief is that the 3G version is in the advanced stages of development.

Indeed I think I spotted one tucked up Steve Job's sleeve at the presentation this morning! ;)

I usually agree and buy right away but the iPhone is SO NEW and relies on another party's service (ATT or O2). There are a few kinks. I have two friends who have iPhones and they are beautiful (a few glitches), but this is not like an iPod or iMac update. For that price you want the improvements which will come in version 2. Yes I know some will then say wait for version 3 but I still think the better iPhone will be the next one for sure. You are all testers right now.

I hear version 7 will be fantastic. I say wait until then.

I'm in the states. I waited until the UK event thinking that they might release a 16GB version in the states. They didn't. I'm pissed. What are the chances that he'll announce 16GB next week?

pretty low.. the Touch uses two flash chips, that's the reason it sports 16G, whereas iPhone only has single chip.. so unless the IC manufacturers release a denser memory chip, you're out of luck..

Well i just rang again and a third person said i am getting 600mins and 1000texts AND unlimited data and that if it turns out to be **** i can hold them to it as she promised me and wrote it on my account

the 20quid a month one comes with 400mins and 1000txts compared to 35quid a month for 200 of each.

o2 will soon enough announce unlimited data bolt-ons (t-mobile already do them for 7.50 i think). therefore if o2 do this it would make the price 7.50 cheaper with double the minutes and 4 times the txts!

But O2 are cranking out unlimited data bolt-ons in October. The current market for that kind of add-on is around £7.50-£10 so even if you add that on to other tariffs that do come with handsets, you're looking at a better deal.

What worse is that you have to buy the iPhone itself - so technically the tariff should be comparable to a SIMplicity (SIM only) one but I just got a SIM only rate of £15 for 200 minutes and 500 texts out of O2 because I'm keeping my existing handset! It's utterly outrageous that Apple and O2 make you buy the handset and then stiff you with a tariff that's usually associated with handset-comes-free tariffs, for what? Visual Voicemail? Big wow.

Ah, but did you mention that it was the iPhone and not the Samsung D900 that you wanted!

Only kidding.;)

If so many people over here are on 3G and loving it, as a lot of posters on here claim, surely they're all getting email on their 'phones. Why text them, then, when you could email them for free? I'd be interested to know how much email has replaced texting for US users of the iPhone.

i suspect that once someone manages to get a simonly o2 tariff sim working on their iphone, the visual voicemail will still work - surely its only network related as opposed to sim related?

I'd just like to know how they're going to do that for you via iTunes.

"Some sort of code or secret web page for existing customers" sounds exceptionally dodgy and almost like the O2 call-centre staff don't actually know how it works at all - which would tally with all my experiences this afternoon with their staff. Not a single one of them knew what the rates were for the iPhone. They knew there was a £35 and they all 'assumed' that it was the 600/1000 deal, but none of them when pushed would actually put me on that deal.

So, methinks that now it's in the system they just read their screens and go "Yeah mate, that's what it says here, must be true". But how that's going to work when push comes to shove is going to be interesting. I'll keep calling them up once a day until I get the same deal but so far I've hit a stone wall.

US users running a different AT&T tariff on their cracked iPhone haven't got it. I think it's very much connected to the billing somehow - if you're on the iPhone billing system you get that service. Otherwise... :(

I just told the guy you had rung and was told my offer was total crap and he said i have been offered it so end of story, we will have to honor it.

Lets just see how much that data bolt on is though before we speculate. You also get the Cloud access (though this should be optional)

Thanks for posting this image, which makes the plight of Canadian mobile users abundantly clear. Also, it prompted me to do a little web-searching, without which I would not have discovered Virgin Mobile. Their rates look fantastic compared to Fido/Rogers. No data, but for my own day-to-day phone usage, this could cut my phone bill in half.

Email on most phones (iPhone excepted, I'm sure) is a fiddle. Unless everyone in the world had an iPhone, I can't see texting going out of favour - it's just too useful and easy.
