I’m absolutely blown away. I pulled my 12 Pro out of its box in preparation for my Mini replacement (looong story there) and it’s just so unwieldy after using this thing for a couple of days. As someone else previously mentioned, it’s just a beastly little thing. I’m quite pleased with the camera too.

Are you switching from the pro to the mini? Pro is a little too hefty, I’m comparing both the pro and mini.

That is a very good picture. I see you cropped the right side. Good move there.

I am. I traded my 11 Pro in for the 12 Pro and I could have sworn the Verizon dude told me I had 30 days to return the Pro so I went ahead with it and figured I’d just return it if I liked the Mini. Turns out Verizon’s return period is 14 days and I had 30 days to send in my trade-in, which I had just traded in on the spot (????).

So now I have my Mini, which I vastly prefer, and a 12 Pro in the closet as my new backup.

Does anyone else marvel at the Mini every time they pick theirs up? Man, I still can’t get over the fact that Apple made what I loved about so many iPhones but combined them all into a single phone with only a 5.4” full screen. And there aren’t any compromises compared with the regular full-sized 12 (besides battery of course).

Yes. I was thinking almost the same thing. I’m stunned every time I pick it up. I keep thinking it will be too small because it just looks so tiny compared to what we are all used to. But then I look at the screen and have almost never had any issue reading or thinking that pictures look tiny. The mini is just a marvel

Interesting - I’m going back and forth between the two. If battery life was better I’d go mini but right now it’s only on pace for about 5.5 hours of SOT whereas the 12 pro can get ~7-8.

I’m loving the size, but battery life is a concern for me. A bit annoyed at myself haha because I have already returned a 12 due to the colour I got (blue) and the size. I guess I’ll have to put up with it & start using my phone lesss (by not going on social media etc). I am coming from an iPhone X that had 89% battery health within a year.

Not sure if my battery has had a chance to optimize or what, but my iPhone mini had no issues today.

It’s been off the charger for 10 hours now and I used it fairly heavily today (lots of web browsing and messaging, lots of social media, and a couple hours of streaming music) and I’m still at 29% battery.

Only thing I did different was turn off 5G and used LTE whenever I wasn’t at home. Very pleased. Huge turnaround from last Friday’s performance, which was abysmal.

Have the 11 and was just longing for a smaller device. 12 mini seems pretty much spot on for me.

After using it a couple of days it is actually going back.

- Size is great.
- Battery life ok
- Feel in pocket is fantastic compared to the heavy 11.

Why sending back?
- Yellowish screen is a downer. Contrast is great though and the 11 look a bit un-contrasty and slightly pale compared to it. Picture quality is better on the 12 mini when compared head to head.
- Not much of an upgrade otherwise, 11 is still zipping through anything. Camera is not noticeably better to the point of it being important.
- 11s battery life is a lot better.
- Even though 12 minis screen is a bit better in some respects, the yellow tone, limited viewing angles puts me a bit off.
- And sending it back saves me 250 bucks compared to selling 11 and keeping it.

Will see how 13 mini does next year. 11 is also a great phone still.

The more I use this phone the more impressed I am with it. Wiping my 11 Pro today for trade in and it felt like a brick. The flat design of the 12 series is perfect for the size of the Mini. It feels so right in the hand, and in the pocket. I look at the larger phones now and they look clownishly gargantuan. This may be the best iPhone ever made (to date anyway). Normally I trade in my phone when the next year’s phone comes out to lower the price, but if I feel the same way about this phone in a year I’ll pass it on to my wife and trade in her 2020 SE instead, just so we can keep it in the family. And next year it’s the mini again for me.

Nice to hear. Can I see a screenshot of your usage, please? I’m still nervous about the battery life

I appreciate the smaller form factor. In terms of needs, the Mini is exactly what Ive been looking for. Small enough to be considered one handed portable while not feeling Ive been cheated on Pro features.

So about battery life:

My second day on the road was exactly the same, same usage, ended up with around 40% at the end of the day, again 10-15% less than my iPhone 11 (with 98% battery health) in the same situation with same usage. Really good imo.

But the nights are strange. I wanted to test how everything effects battery life.
First night the device lost 6% in airplane mode. But it was the first day owning it.
Second night it lost nothing in airplane mode. Charged it to 100% and it stayed there till the morning.
But today was very strange. I thought I would leave it on to try it out, stable 2-3 bar LTE reception, nothing else turned on, no BT, 5G, WLAN, background sync always off etc. Silent mode. Only received 5 notifications from my air quality station at home. But that was it. Haven't used it overnight. It lost 27%!!!! 27% for about 5 notifications with stable LTE? The battery usage doesn't show me anything. No draining in background etc. Besides Safari no high usage of battery, nothing. WTF! That never happened before. With my 11 last week it lost around 5% with same settings but fewer notifications.

I have kept my 5g on, and im still on day1 of the phone

but the first thing I noticed is that the standby time for the phone is definitely WAY worse than my X or 8+ on modem. I was on FaceTime + wifi for almost 2 hours and I lost about 16% battery (from 95) which was completely expected and normal imo. but as I check the phone throughout the day I noticed that I'd Lose 1-2% on standby very frequently when I was strictly on 5g/4g.

once I saw that 4hrs of SOT was achievable and if not on the low end I was much more comfortable buying the phone. I'm still on d1 but I dont see any reason why my usage patterns why I can't average 4.5 with minimal changes to habits from 8+/X.

I think those that strictly use music-web-imessage-facetime should have no problems achieving 5.5hrs of SOT regularly with under 50% brightness.

ALSO: USE DARK MODE!!! I think this change alone + using a dark wallpaper + lock screen should automatically add 10-20% SOT to your normal usage.

How are people finding wireless charging performance? I am in Hong Kong (where it's still getting up to 27ºC during the day), and find that the charging seems to quite significantly thermally throttle beyond about 80% when wireless charging.

I don't mind it now that I've worked out that that's what it is (per Apple's support doc, it charges as normal up to about 80% then slows down or pauses), but it seems to be much more aggressive about it as I never really noticed it with my X. I guess the Mini just has a smaller battery and chassis through which to dissipate heat and so is affected more.

Alright.. is that normal that slow-motion camera is flickering? Even when I change it into the front camera. Other camera options are smooth. I don't understand that :O. Thanks in advance guys.
