Looks like I will be replacing and buying used phones forever now. I can't live without my iPhone Mini. Perfect size and screen size for me. At least I will still one day have the pleasure of updating my iPhone Mini 12 to a used 13 someday.
But at some point the 13 mini will lose support and updates. This could be problematic security and otherwise depending upon what you do with the phone (banking and other apps for example).

Waste of manufacturing resources that could go to the most popular sizes. Problem with the mini is the screen is too small, battery life is bad, doesn't get all the latest cameras or largest storage capacities.

It's an iPhone with way too many compromises and this is why it's not a great seller. A minority might love it but the majority has spoken, people want larger phones.
A lot of iPhone models don't get the best camera (the 13 and the 13 mini have the same camera). Also, what are you talking about "doesn't get the largest storage capacities"? The iPhone 13 goes up to 512GB, and the 13 mini goes up to 512GB. As for the battery... it wasn't 2 days like the 13 pro max, but it was pretty good.

Apple making iPhone bigger each year, yet I didn't read any study that mentions people's hand are getting larger as well.
At some point the resulting form factor loses its appeal.

iPhone Mini lovers just want a device that you can use with 1 hand.
Seems like a reasonable demand to me.

The Mini mob are so obnoxious lol. We’re never going to hear the end of this are we?

Based on the rumors it seems all iPhones are going to get bigger. 6.1” SE, 6.3” standard/pro , and 6.9” Plus/Pro Max.

You’re going to need to decide between a “huge” phone or iOS. We all know you’ll pick iOS though, right? lol

Yeah, gosh, it's "so obnoxious" to have a different preference from yours and to advocate for companies to offer a product that caters to it in addition to products that cater to your preferences.

What massive disappointing news. iPhone Mini will missed. One of a kind! This is a different moment Apple thought of. You can just tell from the reveal video.

“Something only Apple would do.”

Apple has many times been cheeky at the competition in their launches or in advertisements.

This launch was tongue in cheek against Sony!
- the theme song for mission Impossible was a Sony distribution for movie #1
- the mini was due to Sony’s second year not making the Xperia Compact.

i thought the next SE was going to be 6.1” lol

I guess the 12 mini will be your last iPhone then? Off to android??

That rumor died off VERY early this year and the SE went back to R&D development mode.

Apple launched the original SE due to over 30 million iPhone 5S in use across the globe. Total sales of the 12 Mini’s first 2 years and 13 Mini’s first year more than totals that amount. See the news of sales right here on Macrumors main page.

Quite outstanding considering Apple has NEVER advertised in video, print or billboards of either product globally! Even on their website you had to select the regular iPhone to get it.

Oh and by the way the 14 Plus production was cut just under 60 days of launch more than 4 months before the 13 mini or 7 months of the 12 mini’s production times before those were reduced. 60 days!!

The iPhone 13 and the 12 mini each had higher ASP’s than the regular iPhone 12 or 13 or even 14/14 plus. That means per unit more profit for Apple.

Makes you wonder WHOM internally wished it to fail and made every effort in-marketing for it to fail!?? No other iPhone has EVER launched and yet never marketed!

iPhone sales were about 55 million in Q1 2023. So 3% of iPhone marketshare would still be 1.5 million phones or close to a billion dollars in revenue.
But those numbers do not reflect accurate iPhone 12 mini & iPhone 13 mini sales in the previous year over year quarter comparison.

Also it’s Q2 2023 sales that were 53 million that you’re inaccurately quoting. We’re in the 3rd quarter now.

So to be clear, everyone that didn’t get the mini is doing it wrong? And you and other purchasers know how things are supposed to be done and everyone else is either ignorant or stupid?

Narcissistic much?

You have to find out for yourself. But I don't want to do work or watch movies on my iPhone. I use my MacBook or iPad for that. Movies and games take place on my 75" TV, connected to an Apple TV. Different tools for different purposes. I would never cut my hedge with nail clippers either.

If it works fine for someone to do work, play games, watch movies and everything else on an iPhone, and they feel they get the most out of it that way, then that's perfectly fine, and in that case I can understand that you do NOT choose an iPhone Mini.

But to be clear. No one is doing it wrong, but someone may be making it unnecessarily difficult for themselves by doing everything with 1 tool.

Narcissistic. No. r/iamverysmart. I don't know, you have to go to Reddit and ask there.

Yikes. What does this mean for repair availability if I'm set on running my 13 Mini as long as practical?

Unfortunately not. I loved my SE gen 1. I replaced it with a 13 mini but had to sell it as it caused by eyes to feel like they were burning and some headaches. My SE gen 3 is serving me well now even though it is a bit bigger than I would like.
You will have a problem if you want to stick with Apple then. 🙁
OLED PWM flicker is likely what is causing your eye strain and the SE3 is likely the last iPhone with and LCD (=non-PWM) backlight.

I was very afraid of it, as I am sensitive too, but luckily it’s ok, even if I notice it.

This is quite disappointing. But I think the problem with the mini is that it doesn’t have Pro specs. Yes, the next SE might replace the mini if we assume it’ll be based on the current mini, but again, the problem with the SE is that it’s a budget phone with low camera and battery specs, which doesn’t make it very appealing for me.

I’m a Pro Max user, even though I’m a girl with small hands. But battery life is a main priority for me, which is why I went for the Max size. I also want the Pro specs. I’ll admit the weight was quite a problem for me at first, but I kind of got used to it.
Though if they did offer a Pro Mini that has a decent battery life, I would’ve actually bought one.

Yeah, I feel like the SE3 is the last chance for us to be kept on the Apple ecosystem. And I have the hunch that the SE3 is also being axed tomorrow.

I hope they will come with a new, smaller iPhone with USB-C, like a 14 mini (same components as the 13 mini but with 6GB of RAM and Bluetooth 5.3). Or a whole new model that hasn’t been leaked, but that would be strange.

A smaller iPhone Pro could be, at most, a 5.8” device (and that’s without periscope lenses). At that size and with a Titanium frame, I think the 160g could be achievable.

Anything smaller than that, with pro specs, is physically impossible. And if not, the cost of engineering would be insane.

I think that with a 5.8” body, and the very efficient A17 SoC, it is possible to have a good, all day battery life. But honestly, I don’t think such device is among Apple’s plans.

the best things in life are the small things … like an azure kingfisher; a green tree frog; a rain drop on a leaf after a dry spell, a sony RX0 and … … … an iPhone 12 mini

The Mini has always intrigued me. I was always unsure about the small screen and battery, but loved the idea of something so easy to hold and carry in my pocket. I actually know several people with 12 Mini/13 Mini. Does anyone have sales figures from 13 Mini vs 14 Plus? I find it hard to believe Apple sold more 14 Plus than 13 Mini but maybe they did.

Even if the sales of both iPhone mini and iPhone Plus were at the same level, I wouldn’t understand Apple keeping the plus sized model… because it kinda cannibalizes Pro Max sales. I think it would be wiser to have a third, smaller size, especially if the regular size is slowly getting bigger (like this years iPhone 15).

A disappointment, but one we knew was coming. I upgraded from a 12 mini to a 13 mini this spring and have absolutely loved it. Battery life has never remotely been an issue - how often are you really more than 10 feet from a charger? It's like insisting on electric cars with a 400 mile range when 99% of your trips are under 5 miles.

New phones are too damn big and the mini is perfect.
