The biggest PITA on IOS is organising the icons with your finger....it's cumbersome and takes too much swiping around. It would be nice to be able do that remotely with a real mouse. Thought this would finally allow that, but apparently not. GRRR.

Fingers crossed we get it? Are we getting the Apple intelligence features?
I doubt this will change until EU recognizes that technology companies cannot supply all forms of unique propriety technology with competitors. Propriety communications between products is an example. Not talking about common communications protocols for various established products that consumers utilize.

Two weeks ago, Apple unveiled hundreds of new features that we are excited to bring to our users around the world. We are highly motivated to make these technologies accessible to all users. However, due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act (DMA), we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this year.

Or until Apple decides to stop cosplaying as 1990s Microsoft and adopts established standards for intercommunication instead of continually locking their customers into their own propriety ones.

Well people choose Apple for one reason. Because it just works and its secure. No need to open up anything. If you dont like simply dont use an apple device. Just because of the european rules we cant use feautures. They try everything to hit apple, becaue apple sets privacy on top of everything. What a shame.

What sort of real world uses are there for this. I have it, but I am not sure of a reason to use it. What are people using this feature for ?

I still don’t really see a use case in this. Everything that was shown here could be done through the Home app. I view my eufy cameras through HomeKit and I also change my ecobee thermostat through It. Is this locked to one Apple ID? I could see myself using this at work on a different Apple ID but at home It seems pointless.

iPhone mirroring is not intercommunication, its emulating their secure iPhone environment on a Mac desktop with identical encryption scheme.

I'm disappointed to hear this won't work while using Continuity Camera. Any indication that this limitation is part of it being a beta or that's just how it'll always be?

Agree, this seems like the most limiting uh.. limitation listed.

Hopefully they can work around it sometime in the future, would be a great solution for people using their iPhones as their webcam.

Now imagine this could still be used if you forget your phone at home, or if your phone gets stolen and you can interfere with whatever the thief is trying to do

In this early state not realy usable. You cannot move files between mac and iphone. The only thing this is usable is lazynes to use iphone. For now its a gimick for me.

I'm not sure what I'd get out of this. Drag and drop is nice, but there's already AirDrop. The rest of it just seems like a gimmick...

Agreed. They also ignore or don't believe the positive use cases stated by others.
I am not ignoring, I am asking what the use cases are. I am assuming there has to be a reason. I do not think it will work to use your phone if you left it at home. Mine doesn't seem to work unless the phone is right beside the Mac

Read all the comments in the thread and you will see several use cases. I posted one myself. Please explain why you think what I stated is not a valid use case.

On the Talk Show, Craig Federighi specifically mentioned how he likes to use it when his phone is above his monitor working as a Continuity Camera. So, if this limitation is there in the final release, there must be a technical reason for it (probably bandwidth).

@jclo my initial idea was to connect my iPhone to my sound system through short usb-c cable, so I can stream hi-res lossless music files from Apple Music. In this case I could control my iPhone from sofa, which is 5 meters away, with my MacBook and change music files and etc.

Currently I need long 5 m USB-C cable to connect my iPhone (or MacBook) from my sofa to my audio system so I can get hi-res audio to my sound system from Apple Music. And this is really not comfortable using a looong cable..

I do not use AirPlay, because it streams low quality lossy audio.

I was very excited about iPhone Mirroring, which would solve mine (and many audiophiles) problem. We could finally use Apple Music hi res audio without long cables. Just connect iPhone to your sound system with usb-c. Go to your sofa. Play file from Mac to iPhone to get hi-res audio. Problem solved. No cables.

But now I read, that if you play music on Mirrored iPhone the sound will go out through your Mac 🤦‍♂️ Is it possible to change that, so audio output goes from iPhone? Or maybe if iPhone is connected through usb-c to audio system, maybe there will be option to make output through iPhone (and not Mac)?

Would really appreciate your comment 🙏🙏🙏

I get how this could be interesting for developers (I think).
But for the average user, what function does this serve? It's a genuine question, I'm not tryin to attack anyone who finds it useful.

I just can't think of a use case - primarily because my phone is never particularly far away and I'd find it easier to just use it directly.

It's just a convenience feature. It's more about productivity than anything else. If I'm using my Mac, it just much more convenient to have a window of my iPhone open, so I can work it directly from my Mac, rather than digging it out of my bag or going in to another room to grab it.

Personally I'll probably use it once in a while as I don't really use my phone much, so it stays plugged in next to the back door.

It doesn't work in Europe. I understand the European Commission is investigating in this case.

Only a few things work across Europe, by the way - Tap to Pay, Apple Card, Apple Cash, satellite emergency calling, fully functional Apple Maps, locally speaking Siri, Fitness+...
Outside the US (except for countries such as the UK, China or Germany), the iPhone is becoming a second-tier phone.

Now imagine this could still be used if you forget your phone at home, or if your phone gets stolen and you can interfere with whatever the thief is trying to do
I thought this is what this was and am a little disappointed that it isn't. Thought I get that sending whatever encryption handshakes need to be done over the internet could be a bad idea.

But still, I have an extra iPhone 12 that I carry for work because I finally got sick of Google Voice and lack of iMessage on that number and ported it to a cheap MVNO, but (short story) Carrier Locking in the US is overreaching and I can't install that eSIM on my locked iPhone 14 Pro, even though the carrier eSIM remains active and the primary line. So that phone forwards calls to my 14 Pro, and iMessage forwards any regular SMS messages that come in. I only have to carry the 12 for the 2-3 phone calls I end up needing to make from it during the week. It would be nice if it could just sit on my desk at home plugged in and I could just run those outbound calls through my Mac remotely...

Because the EU could hit down on Apple pretty hard due to the fact that it’s only the iPhone that can be mirrored.

Not any other phone (Android) which goes against EU regulations.

I mean it’s pretty easy to use google and read up about the reason.
Well then EU is blocking innovation, if I have to support everything and everyone from the beginning. Maybe they should start to go against their car manufacturers and their OS.
