Because it’s in your pocket or drawer or across the room charging and you need to do that thing on your phone. It’s a cool demo. But I find it hard to see a use case for this feature. Why use a non touch screen to mirror an iPhone that also cant take advantage of the bigger screen size.
Apparently it might not work that way. Sounds like the phone needs to be in proximity. This is gonna be huge for those of us that support our elderly parents' iPhones and aren't always in the same location!
Does it work in UK?Does not work in EU !!!!!

I know what you’re thinking, and yes: this would all be better if the Mac had a touchscreen or if it worked with your iPad. Alas. Even in our decidedly lesser reality, I’ve been testing the new feature, and I’ve discovered a surprising number of reasons it’s handy to be able to use my iPhone from my laptop. I’ve fired up phone mirroring to tweak my smart thermostat, which you can only do from the mobile app.
I’ve used it repeatedly to AirDrop things between my devices, which I can now do without switching back and forth between them. I can now respond to texts from my work computer without logging in to iMessage on my work computer and control my music and podcasts without constantly digging my phone out of my pocket. I like the Apple Journal app, and now I type in it a lot more from my laptop than on my phone.
I think I’ve used it most for managing notifications, though. When you start mirroring your phone, you also start mirroring its notifications, so everything that buzzes your iPhone also buzzes your Mac. I never realized how often I grab my phone off the desk even while I’m sitting at my computer, and mirroring requires much less context switching. It has also made me acutely aware of just how many buzzes I get — if you use phone mirroring, be prepared to turn off a lot of notifications.
The biggest thing missing from phone mirroring right now is drag and drop between devices, which would instantly be the best thing about it. Apple says it’s coming later this year, and I hope it’s easy to grab photos, files, and everything else from my phone.
For those wondering the use case, I run the TikTok of a large company and there’s no way to post to TikTok from a computer. It’s very tedious and easy to make mistakes posting from my phone. Specifically trimming and aligning music from the TikTok library is a total pain with your finger but you need the music to be added in app for discoverability reasons. Writing long video descriptions is also a pain so I currently have to switch apps and copy then go back and paste and paste doesn’t work on iPhone half of the time if the box is empty so I have to type a letter, highlight that letter with my finger, than paste over it. All this gets old when you’re posting 2-3 vids a day.
That all said, I’ve so far avoided pairing my iPhone or Apple ID to my work MacBook. I already hate that my personal phone is overrun with work junk, especially 20-30GB of video footage a day. I don’t want anything on my work computer syncing to my Apple ID and don’t want personal notifications etc popping up on my work laptop.
Really wish my work would spring for a work phone or that Apple had better profiles on the iPhone.
Craig Federghi is unlikely to be un informed when it comes to cameras and mirroring. He spends most of his time infront of a camera or looking in the mirror to curate and maintain his hair. So I take it when he says something about mirrors, that it is 100 percent accurate.Craig Federighi hinted that Continuity Camera should work with iPhone mirroring in an interview post-WWDC. I'm unsure if he was misinformed or if that means that it is coming. I would be disappointed of this limitation
