All I see are articles telling about how badly iPhone sales are slumping, so it must not be all that popular to the global masses. iPhone sales are nothing like Android OS smartphones. What's the ratio of Android smartphone sales to iPhones? Something like 10 to 1. It's amazing Apple is able to survive such an onslaught. Wait until Alphabet starts pushing those $50 smartphones in India. The ratio will be closer to 100 to 1. There's no way the iPhone can be the most popular smartphone in India. The pundits and analysts will come to the conclusion that the Indian consumer doesn't like iPhones because it doesn't offer enough innovative features. /s

Why doesn't Porsche get criticized for not beating out less expensive vehicle brands in India based on some fact that Porsche vehicles are missing certain features and that's why consumers aren't buying them huge numbers? Maybe Porsche should start selling $5000 cars in India to boost its market share percentage because that's what's deemed so important.

Thats not a fair comparison at all. A vast majority of people in India (or all over the world) flat out cannot afford a Porsche. Thats not true for iPhones when it comes to Indian people. A lot of people can afford an iPhone, but it does not make sense as a lot of manufacturers sell smartphones that are much much cheaper and offer similar features and more than acceptable quality. An iPhone 7 sells for INR 50000 on Amazon. iPhone SE, which seems cheaper in USD is still quite expensive in INR. You can do a lot of things with that kind of money in India. e.g. You can buy a quality scooter (Honda, Yamaha, etc.), which is a popular mode of transport in India, for that kind of money, which will last you at least 6-7 years.

And... as of August 2015, there were roughly 24,000 Android devices from 1,300 manufacturers.

Sweet jumping beans. thats a lot. it's amusing, because most of us, even us tech geeks who aren't brand loyal, could probably only name a dozen at best

Does the 7S Edge run iOS? If it runs Android, it gets a -3 points right off the bat and has to build to at best a 70% rating. Nice hardware with crappy software still makes a crappy device.
Nah Android has pretty much copied Apple wholesale yet still retains the flexibility. Its really good nowadays and i used to hate Android.

Apple is making 94% of all the profit in cell phones sales..maybe the android makers are the ones you should be worried about?

I'm not surprised. They are immaculately engineered devices with superb software, and in my experience the services have improved tenfold in the last 18 months.

They are with Apple because shipped is sold, unlike with the others. Unlike the knockoffs these aren't sitting around hoping to be purchased.
.

How is shipped , sold?

By that definition anything in a retail store is sold.

"Either people need to work on the reading comprehension or the blatantly trying to twist this random data to try and make apple up here in a bad light."

I just like to get people worked up...that was easy....sorry, Apple and Tim are doing a great job...stock at an all time high

Where's the Pixel? It's been sold out for months.

Being sold out does NOT mean selling like hotcakes. The Pixel is not there because it doesn’t sell well compared to other flagship phones. Sorry to burst your Google bubble.

Last month I finally moved back to iPhone after taking a 3-year hiatus (Google Nexus 6), and picked up a new matte black iPhone 7 Plus. Absolutely LOVE this device and it is hand's down the best smartphone I've owned since buying a 3GS in 2009. For me personally, I feel like mobile phones have gotten to the point where I don't really care anymore about all the bells and whistles. Instead I prioritize the camera and overall efficiency above all, and everything else that comes with it is gravy. The iPhone 7 Plus camera is amazing, battery life is amazing, and the phone just runs clean and smooth. What more could I ask for?

It was never important. If you sell two items to my one and you make $5 per item and I make $15, I'm still winning. It's not like it's had a negative effect on the app market either. Android makes no one any money, so developers still make iOS apps first.

Yep. Margins + profitable app store = win.

I think it is interesting that shipments of s7 and s7 edge were almost same but with iPhones, the older, discounted iphone 6s shipped the most. That doesn't line up with the narrative that iphone users are rich.
You are correct. But it does line up with the narrative that exploding Samsung Note 7 hurt the sales for all the Samsung phones.

If you just make two bars, one with all the Apple phones, and one with all the Samsung phones, it becomes much less impressive looking as far as Apple is concerned. Especially when you figure Samsung's Note7 catastrophe won't be a yearly event.

I think the issue is the chart is unnecessarily vague and leaves a lot to speculation. Not to mention they don't provide any source for the data.

While I do love my 7 Plus, I can't make a blanket statement and say its "the best phone." Just because its the most popular doesn't directly make it the best lol Were saturated with all kind of amazing tech, so "best" is relative. :)

But but but but I thought Apple proclaimed the iPhone 7 Plus was outselling then all....

When did Apple proclaim that?

If you're referring to Mr. Cook's comments from the Q1 conference call, he indicated that the iPhone 7 Plus had been the best selling Plus model, not that it was outselling the iPhone 7. He also indicated that the Plus model had been supply constrained through the quarter. So demand for it relative to the smaller model may have been greater than model unit sales numbers would suggest.
