iPhone Nano Coming in June, But Not to United States?

I really got a kick out of all the nationalism in this thread. While I'm not sure an iPhone nano is coming, and while I think it would certainly come to the US, some of these posters writing "Cupertino, California, USA!!!" really have no idea...

Plenty of companies release products in other nations that are unavailable in their home nation. Different markets have different needs, and any company worth its salt is going to cater to those needs. They're certainly not going to abandon the pursuit of profits in order to fulfill some nationalist credo.

Why you compairing the iphone to netbooks?

You should really be compairing the iphone to another small consumer device, like say, the ipod.

Should Apple scrap the ipod nano because it's cheap?

It's not inconceivable for Apple to offer an iPhone nano. No internet/data plan requirements, no email, no app store. Strictly a phone + ipod and that's it. $49 - $99 with contract.

This would not kill off the iphone 3g market. Only add to it, just like the ipod nano offers a solution for those that don't want the full sized, full featured ipod touch.

well if you take the ipod example, the reason for making a mini (and nano) was for users that didn't like the size of the original ipod. The nano and mini were cheaper because they had reduced storage, but by this point, it was hard for the average user to fill a classic style ipod! The key elements of the device remained constant throughout - it still played music, and more importantly, used the same interface, with no lack of features. And, er, last time I checked, most people bought a nano because they didn't need the cpacity of the classic, not because the didn't want the touch - there's a difference between the intended markets for the touch and the other ipod family.

If you look at the iphone as a whole, its 3 selling points are ipod, phone and INTERNET (as well as the App store). Check the original iphone keynote if you don't agree. So making a nano without data would be like making an ipod without the ability to play music!

Apple knows that in the US (and to some extent Europe), if someone wants an ipod and a phone in one, the majority will be able to afford the iphone. If they can't, well then that plays into the Apple psuedo-exclusive image.

Show me one example of where Apple have made a product specifically for the budget market. They just don't care about making cheap stuff, and I think that they do generally believe that to do so would compromise the quality of Apple products.

Also, you mentioned the ipod touch. I think this was introduced as the "everyman's iphone" and fills a percieved gap in the market that you claim would be there. Granted, it does the opposite of what you suggested, but look how well it's done! Apple don't need to release a nano version in the same way that we dont have a nano imac or a macbook nano/netbook...they don't play the budget market, and that works for them because they can then afford to increase their profit margins.

What would be your solution for the App store too? And who wants to type on a keyboard smaller than the current one?! And also, for that matter, don't we already have a crippled version of the iphone? It's called the iphone, and lacks lots of basic smartphone features already :D

This is how you treat loyal customers. Well, the hell with your products.

P.S. By the way, I still love my new macbook and ipod touch ;)

...No it should be the other way around...

So as long as it's released in the country you live in, you're satisfied? Did you know around 95% of the Earth's population doesn't live in the USA?

Why not suggest a (gasp) world-wide release?

This is how you treat loyal customers. Well, the hell with your products.

What, there aren't loyal customers in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, South America or the rest of North America?

The click wheel works the same whether it's nano-sized or regular-sized. The touchscreen doesn't scale as well.

Before someone says the two most often cited…

The Mac mini was for switchers, and the iPod shuffle was for extreme portability and for those who like to shuffle.

Apple don't need to release a nano version in the same way that we dont have a nano imac or a macbook nano/netbook...
Nano iMac, LOL.

Epic WIN! :D

(BTW I am not an iPhone hater or anything.)

The sides can be shaved quite a bit too.
Agree. As Apple learns more through manufacturing the iPhone we will see improvements. I would expect to see a reduction in space around the sides in the future.

One thing for certain, Apple will not jeopardize the cash cow known as the iTMS App store. Screen size is an issue, unless there will be display independence or the developers will make dual versions of their apps for the different screen sizes.

The ones who know what's happening, but can't say, are the developers. :)

We're the original, authentic, knight in shining armor loyal fans. It was we who were there when apple began. It was we who were there to nourish apple's growth against the juggernauts. And it will be we who will be there when apple falls. You'll just turn tail to our enemies when you get bored of apple. ;) :D

But we're worth more than the rest of the world combined :D
The value of 1 US citizen is equal to 1000 foreigners.
lolz.

Someone obviously doesnt understand trade defecits. America is still getting the money from the trade, so it doesnt matter. Trade defecit isnt about where something is manufactured, or it would be called Manufacturing defecit, trade defecit is when you spend more on importing products than you get from selling exports.
Balance of trade is determined by exports and imports that a country has. Not the people that are getting the money. If that were the case, America wouldn't have a "trade defecit" as they're the ones raking in huge profits from cheap, foreign labor. Through the current situation, China is selling their products to the United States. So technically, this situation has nothing to do with the trade deficit of any nation, especially not the US; nothing is being exported or imported to anywhere (aside from parts, which still doesn't help your case).

Apple would never sell a new product and only sell it on one side of the world, yes they sold the new nano in 4gb but the Nano itself was sold here first.

Why get so angry?

It amazes me that people get so caught up in this RUMOR. Also, you can't just say there will never be one. People said that the computer mouse was stupid and would never work in the long run. People said that there would never be a computer for personal use. People thought that it would be impossible to fit a computer into something that would fit on your lap at some point. Maybe there won't be an iPhone nano, but you can't say it will never happen. It may not happen, it might. No one really knows except Apple.

No one thinks that the iPhone nano won't catch on. I'm sure it would. we just don't want one because:

How about some new, freaking computers.

annnndddd there is nearly zero evidence for this stupid rumor, yet people keep bringing it up.

that is the dumbest **** ive ever heard

i really don't believe that apple would release a product in another country first. apple is an american company, and i really think that apple consumers would not be happy to see this

Didn't apple release the 4g iPod nano 4gb only outside of the U.S?

Geeze. This is one of the dumbest rumors ever.

And to those people says Apple released a 4G 4GB iPod nano in other countries but not the US, that is true but they would have sold it in America but they decided to cancel production. They sold what was already produced in other countries because they wanted people in America to buy the 8GB iPod nano instead of the 4GB Zune (Zune is only available in America, if not then only a select few other countries).

*cough - made in China

Yeah, but all the design and company stuff is in the US.
Do you know how dumb it would be if Jobs stood up to and did the keynote introducing this and after showing it off and everyone clapping he says, "btw, it's not available in the US."

Question

Could this possibly mean that Apple is planning to sell the new phone under a different phone company, other than AT&T? Would this even be allowed under Apple's and AT&T's signed contract? I mean, it is a new phone. But I would be the last person to know. Any answers to my question?

First off: Apple has an exclusive contract with AT&T for X years, and all handset phones are included in that contract. No, Apple will not release an iPhone nano through other phone companies.

Second: A freaking iPhone nano isn't coming. This stupid rumor needs to die!
