I will be an iPhone newbie in a couple of weeks and would appreciate somebody answering the following questions for me.

Does an original iPhone 2g screen protecter fit the 3g/3gs?

I have a hotmail account as my main email that I use. Is it possible to set this up so that when I tap on 'mail' it will go straight to this account?

And in reference to the contact thing. How do I pre-load my info like the OP said? Is this done on itunes, I don't quite understand.

Thanks

1) Original iPhone doesn't have more than one sensor. The 3G/3GS has 2-3 sensors, so no the screen-protector would not work.
2) Yes, just put your hotmail as your first e-mail.
3)If you have an iPhone now, connect it to your computer, and go into the General tab.Choose to sync your contacts with Outlook or Windows Contacts, or Address Book if you're on a Mac. That will sync your contacts from your iPhone onto your computer. When you get your 3GS, just sync it with iTunes, and select to sync contacts with the same contact holding program, and it will sync it to your iPhone 3GS

Thanks to yourself and ryvetted for helping.

In response, I don't currently have an iPhone so with the contacts off my old mobile, I presume I need to upload them manually into Outlook or Windows Contacts like you say, then when I plug my iPhone in, itunes will automatically sync it?

This is my blue case, with an additional mirrored front:

Where do I get this?? (mirrored screen protector)

where can i buy this case?

I go it at DealSniper (The Darius Series):

dealsniper.com/en/home/iphone-3g/accessories/cases-and-protector/darius-series.html

(I left out www. Not sure if we can post links here?)

Mirrored front is also on the site.

Other newbie questions from me.....

As I'll be selling my iPod Touch (2nd Gen 16gb) will it easy to transfer apps on the new iPhone? (I guess it's tied to my iTunes account rather than device)

My iPod touch has a capacity of 14.52 (ver 2 os) before anything is installed, would a 16gb iPhone have roughly the same space? (really don't know if the Phone software takes up much room).

Can anybody please tell me the quickest and easiest way to get a movie off a DVD and into itunes, ready for it to load straight onto my new iphone when I get it?

For some of you, I would suggest some candles, a nice bottle of wine, and some KY Jelly. Just be aware, KY is water-based, so if you are not careful you may void your warranty.

Just so those interested in that case know, Deal Sniper is a known dealer of counterfeit goods. You may never receive your order if it is seized by customs, and even so, what you're paying for is a fake product. Most of their cases are knockoffs of other manufacturers (iSkin, speakeasy, case-mate) and aren't even any cheaper.

They retail counterfeit "mini" iPhones...and just for the record, reciept of counterfeit goods is a crime in many countries.

Handbrake to rip the DVD, then load it in iTunes. Then sync when you get the phone.

Thanks kebabselector. Is there a way to get round 'copy protected' DVD's?

None of mine are working and I'm guessing this is the main reason. Are there other programs similar to Handbrake that allow copy protected DVD's or is it totally out the question?

If you want to copy protected DVDs with Handbrake, you must download the VLC Player. Handbrake uses the VLC Player's decryption library.

Thanks Moony!

It's been so long since I installed Handbrake I've forgot I needed to do that (can't recall if HB mentions the Player on install or not).

Thanks for the excellent tip.

I'm heading for Tesco right now with my shopping list! :D

Things I did to get ready for my iPhone 3G S (PC):

1. Zagg invisible shield (front only)
2. iSkin Solo case (Blk)
3. Arrange iTunes

And hoping that Outlook 2007 plays nice with the iPhone.

What do you use to convert movies for the iPhone and where do you place them so iTunes can see them (for when moving to the phone).

My order for the case went through smoothly, but maybe buying the gaming consoles etc. would be risky.
But just curious, does anyone know the real company of that blue case. If I buy another case, I want to buy from the real company.

Having problems here guys. I downloaded VLC like you suggested but nothing happens. I think it is a problem with my computer and am not sure any of you will be able to help. No disc I am putting in is being recognised or even showing up at all, meaning I can't even watch the DVD's. I'm on Windows XP. Very frustrating.

Random question - is it possible to sync my contacts from Gmail, or would I need to manually enter the information into Windows Contacts to sync?

This isn't much help, but I believe you can sync your Gmail contacts with Windows Contacts, which can then by synced with your iPhone, but you can't sync directly from Gmail to the iPhone. However, I'm not sure exactly how to do that since I use a Mac.
