I said teens. I need an iPhone due to work. I have to use email and other stuff on it. Give me a good reason a teen would need an iPhone for? Please don't say school (unless you are in college and even then its a reach).

No you don't need an iPhone for email. That's laughable. Go get a BlackBerry. Give me a good reason why you need an iPhone over that of a teen.

Apparently, my choice has become laughable. Also, I said smartphone. Well, you need one good reason?

I work on several AC and heating systems HVAC. Anyways, my job has a nice server with several replacement parts and recommended system installations and much more. If I ever need to look up a part or see if we have it in stock, all I do is punch in the model and serial number of a unit and voila, everything about it is revealed on the screen. Quite handy. Not to mention, boss sends out certain emails regarding requisitions, quotes and the likes to me while I'm out on the field.

Good enough?

However, I sense you, yourself, are a teen because of the very form and manner you are coming after me for my comment. I can assure you, no teen needs a smartphone. Their needs is centered around Facebook (which a desktop will do) and gossip, which can be done via texting as well. None of those require parents to splurge over $15 or $30 of data allowance a month.

That's still not a better reason than why a teen needs a smartphone. You don't need a smartphone, you can use a BlackBerry. Why do you think you have better reasons than a teen? Many of which also have jobs. You seem to be kind of elitist.

You keep telling me I need a Blackberry, news flash, a Blackberry is still a, what is that? Oh yes!!!! A smartphone. Also, the iPhone fits better due to the work app compatibility and as personal choice among other smartphones.

I am not an elitist. If I were, I'd say idiotic things like iPhones are status symbols. Instead I am saying "Teens do not need smartphones".

I want to hear your reason as to why a teen needs a smartphone. Like I said, facebook and "schoolwork" doesn't count. Also, 19 is hardly considered part of the "Teen years"

I can tell from 1000 miles away that this writing is paid.I mean not paid but it could be an phone or tablet to writer from Samsung. Come on.I don't believe what this said to be on this article. They throw the **** to Apple and adore samsung in this.First of all it doesn't even objective.

I'm 18 graduated high school last year and everyone you saw in the halls had an iPhone. If it wasn't an iPhone it was an envy with a keyboard or blackberry. Middle class high school nothing special

Are you calling the Macrumors writers paid shills for Apple? Because all they do is adore Apple.

Teens are fickle. Raging hormones and all, they are expected to change their minds and preferences at any given moment. Sometimes for no apparently good reason. How is this news?

You can do your job with one of those non-touch screen BlackBerries with the physical keyboard. I don't consider those to be a smartphone in modern venicular.

You are being elitist by saying that you have a need when it is just a want and for denigrating teens as dumb dumbs who don't do anything and have no purpose.

Please highlight where did I call teens "dumb dumbs". Also, you definition is by far the worst. Any BlackBerry device is a smartphone. regardless of keyboard or not. You and your posts are a quite amusing to say the least, and lack any form of understanding.

To which you said of teens: Their needs is centered around Facebook (which a desktop will do) and gossip

I can read between the lines of your posts about what you think about teens.

Agree.

Looks like you don't know the meaning of denigrate.

Denigrate means that shout to you "useless scum" or say something about teens which means they are dumb or stupid. Which I haven't. I just asserted the claim teens main gossip and facebook on smartphones, which is true.

But like I said, you are a teen, which means, in your eyes, you don't see the expenses nor do you understand/comprehend my point. Most teens don't until they start either paying the bill.

Again insulting me for being a teen.

Again, where is the insult? I can have a moderator come here and he will agree with me. I haven't insulted you in the least. No curse words or names.

What I have done is brought down your sense of entitlement of a smartphone. If you can't win an argument, then try a good counter argument. In this case you haven't done so even after repeated times that I have asked you to do so. I have given you strong points as to why Teens don't need smartphones.

Doesn't make sense, I thought being hipster is in and hipsters love Apple products...

It's not like all teenagers just suddenly move on to something else. If that is happening, it will take time. These studies are typically interested in what teens will choose as their next phone or their first phone today. Obviously the results are somewhat stratified, so they're also looking at tangents in the data compared to past data. Apple has been popular with this demographic for at least the past decade. It's hard to hold onto that coolness factor indefinitely when you see their influence everywhere. At some point they just want something new, although I have no idea where the author gained their information as no sources are really cited.

It's really dumb arguing what should be classified as a smartphone vs feature phone. The only time that really matters is when it comes to plan pricing from some carriers. In use it's more about speed, functionality, and durability, as we've all dropped our phone at least once.

Go ahead, bring in a mod if you want to look at how you think I'm dumb and can't "comprehend" just because I'm a teen.

Like I said before. You won't understand it because you are the target in my argument. You won't see the point because you feel the right to have a smartphone.

Of coarse, when your beliefs are attacked you respond. In this case you didn't do so very well and have mistaken my arguments for personal attacks which they are not. Keep it on. I am just laughing as your further fail to see my point.

I already have one poster who agrees with my point and several others that do so as well. I will say it once again, "Teens do not need a smartphones"

Teens do NOT need smartphones. They don't.

Facebook, Twitter, games, WhatsApp... are not needs.

Clothing, food, education, health... they are needs.

In the modern era, a computer has become an educational need.

A smarthphone has not.

Here in the UK the trend with teenagers is much more towards Blackberry, they're cheap & can BBM their friends for free. Strangely, they think its cool though lol

It's almost a never ending argument with SDA. But now that I've learned he is still a teen it makes me see the rest of his posts in a new light finally.

Look, I'm 27, back in college and working. I don't need a smartphone. Sure it makes group project collaboration and school email convenient, but I by no means need one. I choose to because I can afford it ( sometimes it's a little iffy ). Teens do not need one unless they are designing and creating their own iOS app and need a testing device.

I was just kidding but I agree with you
