I hope beta 5 isn't the last one.. it is much worse than beta 3 for me.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I kept beta4 on my ipod touch till well after the expiration, however, the first time i rebooted the ipod (it was doing wierd things with the music player...), it started up with the pink "connect to itunes screen", had to restore to a 2.x version from there, it wouldn't even load beta5 (same pink screen after restore to beta5), so I'm hoping that as long as you don't reboot the device it won't get itself bricked just yet

That would be hillarious! They do it for the lolz.

That would be pretty funny. I know I'd laugh.

lets face it we ain't getting a beta 6

I tend to agree with this statement. It has been almost a month now. For the folks who have been doing this for a while, what was the progression when OS 2.0 was coming out last year? Was there a window of time when you went from betas to release candidates (a very Windows thing to do) or will there a full fledge jump to full released version in July from a beta?

Apple doesn't label things RC if I remember correctly. They just give each build a build number and eventually a build number gets the label of gold master. Like Leopard devs were given what they were told was a new build. Later they found out that build was the final build, but they had no clue before that. At least I think I remember it happening that way.

With OS 2.0 there were 8 betas. Beta 7 was released at WWDC. Beta 8 was released about 2 weeks before final was out. They all had the beta tag, no RC tag.

Beta 5 is pissing me off, my buttons don't work:mad:. They choose when to work and not to but if I leave an app open to long I have to hard restart my phone to get out of the app. Yes, the buttons worked before beta 5 and they aren't broken.

and beta 5 SUCKS SO MUCH ASS

i feel like they are moving backwards..this is easily the buggiest one yet

thats truly amazing.

my phone always has missing slider, keyboard...all kinds of weird stuff.
missing icons..changed icons..
sometimes it will take a minute for itunes to recognize that its plugged in..
its seriously much wors..
and it has been discussed online many times..alot of people have issues with beta 5...
i was one of the few that lost 3g data service when i upgraded to beta 5 also...
i ended up having to upload a different carrier file to fix it (also re-enables tethering and mms on the phone)...and i wonder if that is causing some of the instability..
i have no other way to get beta 5 working though..tried reinstalling..still no luck..had to do the .ipcc file again..

i think it depends on the phones or something.
with the 2.2 version i was constantly loosing signal and a ton of dropped calls every single day.
I replaced my 8 Gig Iphone 3-4 times hoping to solve the problem with no luck.
And the beta came out and problem solved.

iTunes 8.2 was released today for a reason...

No more Betas... I think were gonna see a final release next Monday/Tuesday.

If that's the case then expect the first update not too long after, just like 2.0. Because unless they miraculously fixed a lot of things, beta 5 isn't ready to be an every day use OS. And if they did fix things, hopefully they seeded a post beta 5 update to select developers to test, otherwise they're just asking for trouble with only their internal testing.

my guess is that Beta 6 is released when WWDC is.
They're probably hiding some new features until next week.

I think you're exactly right. They don't want us to spoil all the surprises before the keynote you know. We'll get a beta 6 on the same day as WWDC after the keynote. Then they'll release 3.0 in July. I really, really bet this is what will happen.

What Big surprise do you think they are saving?

Interesting theory. You might be right. Should we start a new thread? What will the mystery goodie(s) be?

When Apple start selling development phones (as Google do), I'll be happy to have a phone dedicated to betas only. Until that time, I'm sure I'm not getting extra contracts just to test software out. (and all software currently submitted to the App Store has to be tested against 3.0 so there's not really a way around it apart from putting betas on the phone!)
