AT&T needs to start using their brains

AT&T was the definite buzzkill of the show. It makes absolutely no sense that they cannot provide these features at launch, especially since they've known that Apple announced these features to the public months ago! Even if their network is a little over worked, they should be taking all of that revenue they are getting from iPhone customers and investing it into stabilizing their infrastructure. I pay the same premium price every month that my fiance pays for her blackberry service through AT&T, yet I don't have half of the features that she does.

At&t Failure

I'm actually at the WWDC. When it was announced that AT&T wouldn't be supporting MMS until "late summer" there were definitely some displeased people in the audience. However, when it was later announced that "Tethering is carrier dependent, and here's a list of those carriers supporting it..." and AT&T wasn't on the list, the crowd was downright P*SSED.

There were more than a few boo-s coming from the crowd.

The most advanced device in the world + a terrible carrier = expensive junk. Get your crap together AT&T otherwise, I hope Apple listens to their customers and moves to another carrier in the US.

Hmm, i think something's up with Apple and ATT... They weren't announced in the keynote, saying that almost all carriers are supporting from day one the MMS and tethering, and if you look at all of the iPhone ads throughout Apple's web site, look at the signal bars, where it used to say "ATT 3G", (ATT's branding) now it only says "3G". Apple is making them look as the ones who dont want to cooperate... I dunno, smells fishy. Would Apple be mad or something @ ATT for some reason?

To anyone complaining about AT&T, please just remember that you had the iPhone first for a long time while everyone else waited. Waiting 2-3 months for a FEATURE (or two) is a whole lot better than waiting a whole year for the phone.

Available now for developers? Really? because all I get is a blank page or random error messages. Anyone been able to get it to download?

Being a beta tester, the final version is worthless to me. Hopefully they at least fixed some bugs. Thanks for the shaft AT&T.

AT&T is pathetic right now. They are the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in the US and have been for two years now, yet they have none of the new features ready for 3.0. On top of that they aren't allowing current 3G owners subsidized pricing on the 3GS. What a load of ****. I really hope this hurts their sales for being unprepared and making dumb decisions.

Ya but when apple drops at&t because they failed to provide what are we all going to do? at&t needs to get there act together or we are all in for a world of hurt.

SECOND THAT! How goddamn hard is it for a phone released in the last 5 years to have picture messaging... Credit apple with that fail, but when they try to make good and tell the world about it for the past 5 months and AT&T can't coordinate? WTF

It could have to do with the fact that AT&T supports none of the new iPhone features, yet wants to charge upgraders $200 over the subsidized price. Has to be the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard. I used to have the Apple kool-aid in my hand. I think I'm over it now.

not sure who the bigger fail is here, Apple or AT&T. just glad I bought a Palm Pre on Saturday!

its att i mean apple wants this stuff in but you can clearly see att not buging look what they did with skype and sling

The reason the photo doesn't say AT&T near the signal bars is because the iPhone is no longer solely operated by AT&T. Dozens of carriers use the iPhone worldwide, and Apple would be smart to release one set of PR graphics to be used internationally.

But at the same time these features have been available for years on other phones/carriers. It's just ridiculous. They are probably trying to figure out pricing.

Sorry for the dumb question but why can't we have the new voice recognition work on the 3G. Is this not a software issue?
Thanks for the enlightenment :)

Some trivial questions:

I have a jailbroken iphone 3G that records video with IphoneVideorecorder3G; If it can do it, why doesn't apple support it on OS3.0?? -->> TO SELL US AN IPHONE 3GS

I have an iphone 3G with an underclocked arm proccessor (600->400mhz), why don't they put it at full speed as in ipod touch 2.0 or in iphone 3GS?? -->>
TO SELL US AN IPHONE 3GS

If you have an iphone 3G, What do you have to do now? -->> INSTALL OS3.0, JAILBRAKE IT, INSTALL CYCORDER, WAIT FOR OVERCLOCKING PATCH.

The only real news are the compass, the 3mp autofocus camera and maybe 256mb of ram. The rest are software Limitations. Let hackers work...

I've waiting so long for the MMS just to be setback by the late summer announcement from AT&T. If they weren't so slow getting their network up to 3G speeds and maintaining the network to begin with, they wouldn't have this problem. It's completely unacceptable to not be able to handle MMS at launch. I never used tethering but I could see how that was a deal breaker for some. I woudln't be surprised if Apple either left AT&T or added another carrier to the US, such as Verizon. AT&T is just making excuses because they've failed to keep up their network. It wasn't until Apple came along they decided to get serious with 3G. AT&T=FAIL. It's just sad I'm not going to get the full 3G experience at launch. Thanks AT&T.

Incredibly good point.

Great job on giving AT&T an exclusive contract Apple. Hope the money they're giving you was worth crippling the phone in your biggest market

Either way, I have 3G and won't be paying $300 to "upgrade". The updates are cool but not worth $300 imo.

Sooooo…

No real network speed bump here in the US.
No MMS until "late summer"
No tethering in the US
US customers upgrading from an iPhone 3G will have to pay either $299 (8GB), $399 (16GB), or $499 (32GB) - per Apple fine print

Yeah…nothing to see here. I'll keep my money in my pocket.

Where does it say $299, $399, $499 for new iphones? If I walk through the getting started process on Apples website, they say i qualify for upgrade at $99,$199,$299? And yes I am a US customer.

I thought Apple made ATT look bad - that was pretty funny.

The iPhone 3GS is a nice phone but so is the 3G. I definitely will not upgrade and will wait till next summer when my K is up. Hopefully by then, the iPhone will be on Verizon.

3.0 (with MMS eventually) will take care of my needs.

seriously, we already know about this, and now we get told its more of a delay. thanks.

also are us 3g people going to see a drop in data price over the 3gs? i think its unfair to charge the same.. just sayin.

so if your iphone is stolen...can you use this as evidence to bring to the police to break down the door of the near by run down slum to get your iphone back?

Hi, I can't wait to get the new Speed - but when will it be available? I can find any info about the countries included in the 17. june launch? Anyone?
