Where does it say $299, $399, $499 for new iphones? If I walk through the getting started process on Apples website, they say i qualify for upgrade at $99,$199,$299? And yes I am a US customer.

nice, well that might be a decent upgrade for those that really want it

Tethering= that's it for me! Looks like I'll be able to play DS and PSP games online anywhere.

What a day :) roll on iPhone 3!

AT&T is hurting Apple and going to alienate so many customers by the time it's all said and done. Some of the most important new features for new customers and for old is not available.

Meanwhile I'm STILL waiting on 3G in my city of 750K.

God I hate AT&T, MMS is working with other carriers but not them. Tethering is an available feature but one AT&T doesn't support. As much as I love the coverage they SUCK!

Frankly I'd be thrilled if they just made their stupid hack for supporting MMS on the iPhone vaguaely user friendly. As it is I have to go back and forth between SMS and my browser, trying to remember what the username and password are. Sure, with cut and paste that'll be easier, but why not just give me a one-use URL that does the job?

Worst. Implementation. Ever.

As for tethering, this is a no-brainer. I mean if they need to charge more to compensate for the additional bandwidth usage, that makes sense. I could tether on my windows mobile on the t-mobile network for heaven's sake.

Voice Control

Here's a question for you folks that might be at WWDC: Is Voice Control a hardware-dependent feature that will only work on the new iPhone 3G S or is it a software feature that will be a part of the iPhone 3.0 OS upgrade?

Voice Control

Is voice control going to be available on 3g or only on 3gs? How is it a hardware and not a software feature?

1Password solution Here

GETTING 1PASSWORD TO WORK IN SAFARI 4

I’m sure the guys at Agile Web Solutions will have a fix for this soon, but in the meantime, here’s how to get 1Password to work with the version of Safari that Apple released today:

Right click on 1Password in your applications folder, choose ‘Show Package Contents’
Browse to Contents > Resources > SupportedBrowsers.plist
Double click to open in Property List Editor
Drill down to Safari and find MaxBundleVersion
Change the Value to 5530.17 and Save
You may have to restart Safari after this, but these steps worked for me.

Of course, T-Mobile USA will already let me do MMS and tethering (admittedly, only at EDGE speed with this phone) on my unlocked, unsubsidized Sony Ericsson phone. (Oh, and my data plan is $20/mo and includes Hotspot access.)

When will Apple realize that their carrier exclusivity deal is an albatross around their neck? I'd be willing to pay for an unsubsidized iPhone (3GS or otherwise) as long as I could use it with any GSM carrier. (Prepaid SIMs are great for travellers.) AT&T is still the Death Star, and someone needs to pop a torpedo down their exhaust shaft....

AT&T is definitely the biggest fail here. I switched to AT&T for the original iPhone and can't wait till my contract is up to switch away. I had Suncom prior and they always treated me like a valued customer and resolved any issues I had (even if they were my fault for being stupid or whatever).

I enjoy my iPhone and would like another, but last straw was last week while dealing with AT&T customer support again for a billing issue they can't seem to get right (completely their problem on their end!). And now this. I'll buy another iPhone again when Apple decides to switch.

Well, it looks like I'm going with Verizon and a Blackberry Curve. The lack of tethering was the deal breaker. If I didn't need tethering (and on tight budget) I'd jump on a new iPhone. Blame goes to ATT.

Blame goes to AT & T - who selected them as the exclusive US provider

Blame goes to Apple on that one.

Well I must say I'm pretty upset that MMS will not be supported by ATT out of the gate. I just don't understand why this is the case. You can bet if they didn't have a monopoly on iPhone customers here in the US this wouldn't be the case.

I've sent my opinion to Apple on this matter here:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone_thankyou.html

I'm sure it won't matter but it made me feel a little bit better :)

AT&T sucks. It's the only thing holding me back from upgrading... What is so hard about including MMS at launch?

Good & Bad news for Rogers customers

I called Rogers' iPhone department to find out about the new iPhone, MMS and Tethering.

- They're getting it June 19th :)
- MMS is 15¢ each
- Tethering is built into the iPhone. You use your existing data plan. No extra costs :D

... I guess the 6GB which was theoretically "Unlimited Data" since you were unlikely to use that much data with the phone, has suddenly become a real limit.

I work out of coffee houses and use their WiFi when available but tethering via my iPhone will guarantee I always have a connection. However... the 6GB cap will be a lot easier to break with a laptop.

Has any other developers been able to download anything from developer site? They really need to get more bandwidth!

I've been "ok" with AT&T until just recently. Their customer service is the poorest thing I have ever experienced. Now their lack of capability in supporting their exclusive iPhone franchise is pathetic.

The iPhone I love - not sure I will renew if AT&T can't get their act together.

Feature Support
Tiered Data Plans

Ugh. When will the ATT tyranny end?

How absurd is it that Apple is announcing relatively minor new features that AT&T can't/won't support?

It's time for Apple to drop the exclusivity agreement with AT&T. What a tremendous mistake that was to begin with. 40,000,000 iPhone/iPod touches would seem like a small percentage had they not chose to go that route.

I completely agree!!!

It’s time to drop AT&T for a carrier such as Verizon who has a decent network that will SUPPORT the iPhone in the same manner the rest of the world is getting. I’m so totally disgusted with AT&T with all the dropped calls and MISERABLE customer service and now they can’t or rather WON’T support the new phone features even though they are being WELL PAID to do so.

WAKE UP APPLE AND DROP THEM

I was thinking about upgrading, but I do not want to add any additional time to my AT&T contract. I want out ASAP.

AT&T continues to drop the ball. Unfortunately, the other GSM carrier, couldn't handle the data load the iPhone community creates, so we wait.

While we wait, we can spend quality time dialing 611 to get our bills corrected again. How does any company only get two to three bills correct in over 60 months of service (AT&T and prior to that, Cingular)?

Apple today revealed the MMS will not be available for AT&T customers until "late summer", as much as several months after the launch of the new operating system.

Apple announced that tethering via USB and Bluetooth will be offered on a number of carriers at launch, although AT&T will not be supporting it for the time being.

Between these two, and the lackluster MacBook upgrades (or downgrades, in the case of the 15",) I'm annoyed.

Alrighty, AT&T, the ball's in your court. Do you want me to stay an AT&T customer? If so, you better get on this fast. I may be stuck in a contract through next year; but if this crap keeps up, I'll be ditching you the instant my contract expires. And if the iPhone gets official support for another U.S. carrier, I'll probably even bail early, and pay the stupid fee.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I don't use MMS so that's no biggie for me (although I do have a texting plan and I wonder if that will be incorporated) but as an early adopter of the $30 6GB data plan, I was wondering about being able to tether my iPhone with a Dell Mini 9 I have on order. It's looking good on that front. :D

Blimey, I've sort of praised Rogers. Damn, I must be feeling unwell.

I don't have an iPhone, so these 2 features don't affect me as a Touch user, but if AT&T doesn't get this whole MMS and Tethering worked out relatively quick, a lot of people are going to be very, very angry. These are things the iPhone needs to have.

I can't wait for 3.0 though. The games are going to be insane.

Some trivial questions:

I have a jailbroken iphone 3G that records video with IphoneVideorecorder3G; If it can do it, why doesn't apple support it on OS3.0?? -->> TO SELL US AN IPHONE 3GS

I have an iphone 3G with an underclocked arm proccessor (600->400mhz), why don't they put it at full speed as in ipod touch 2.0 or in iphone 3GS?? -->>
TO SELL US AN IPHONE 3GS

If you have an iphone 3G, What do you have to do now? -->> INSTALL OS3.0, JAILBRAKE IT, INSTALL CYCORDER, WAIT FOR OVERCLOCKING PATCH.

The only real news are the compass, the 3mp autofocus camera and maybe 256mb of ram. The rest are software Limitations. Let hackers work...

How did you run the underclocked on iphone? is this a package thing downloadable from cydia? Sorry this is a little out of my realm but i'm very intrested
thanks
