possible, any way 4.0 is in the works for release in June (next iPhone), it is just the timing, but welcome one right?

hope free upgrade for iPad owners (at least 4.0 if not the 5.0)

I've read that 4.0 is a definite free upgrade while 5.0+ could have a fee attached (like the iPod Touch).

Printing

It would be interesting if Apple introduced an "iPad ready" badge for printers. The printer could be networked ad-hoc with the iPad and print a pdf produced by the iPad. Maybe use bonjour over wifi. # printed and printer options could be accomplished via a small ui speced by the printer during the handshake.

I wonder if apple jumped the gun on announcing the new OS to spur more sales of the iPad?

You realize that this is LATER than the OS unveiling usually is right? In the past 2 years I believe it was in March, not April. So they in fact delayed it. There goes that theory.

Also why do people keep bringing up the courier? Are you serious? It's a CG video and nothing more, end of story.

So Apple gauged reaction to the iPad, realized it sucked, and in an effort to fix it, is showing the tech world what the iPad will be able to do... soon.

I am actually hoping for a sync without using a computer. Either syncing to mobileme directly or to a USB hard drive. This would actually allow a large group of people to use the iPad without having to own another computer. This would open the iPad market further.

Along with this, being able to update the OS without a computer would be a must.

+1001

Apple is not very well known for previewing things ahead of launch, aside from the iPhone and iPad because of having to go through FCC... so could we conclude that there are some feature(s) that will have to get FCC approval?

Subfolders in the Photo-app would be awesome.

The ability to rearrange/move photos around into other folders (like in Mail) would be even better. Also, the ability to delete synced photos would be nice too.
I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to show my photos to others -- but wanted a way to rearrange the way photos are displayed first, or delete a photo I didn't want someone else to see beforehand. It's so frustrating and inconvenient to have to wait until you get onto your computer first, do it all in iPhoto, and then sync.

i think apple is going to need to drop support for the iphone 2G and iphone 3G if they are going to do anything substantial. otherwise you run into the problem of the older hardware just holding you back. much the same way that google has not released 2.1 to the g1 and mytouch 3G and microsoft has completely broken away from previous windows mobile devices.

No way jose.
MAYBBBBBBBBE the 2G. I know they have the same hardware, but a lot of people are still using the 3G. I think it's still the most used out of the 3.

Actaully, the reaction to the iPad has been overwhelmingly positive.

By comparison, the first-gen iPhone hit 270,000 in sales on launch day.

How anticlimactic.

A new version of a device no one cared about in the first place.

*Yawn* indeed.

Seriously, there has to be more to this MS "mystery event." They can't be THAT stupid.

Yeah, i don't think it is just this. There is also a new version of Visual Studio released on this date. While i think they'll mention these two products i still think they will announce something new.

Im with this guy. It would be hilarious if Apple pulled that. The downside is all the hackers would have to work on 4.0 despite being so close to a 3.2 iPad JB release.

Have to agree. If MS has learned anything from Apple it's to actually release something interesting at a mystery event. Though my expectations aren't too high. At all.

Teethering

Enabling teethering so owners of both iPhone and iPad do not need two cell phone numbers on the road.

Oh god :S

I've got an iPhone 3G S coming tomorrow from an upgrade.

Think I should hold out until at least this Thursday or June at the most?

Let me know of your suggestions guys.

Your new 3GS will be able to use the new OS so no need to wait until Thursday :) However you might want to consider waiting for the 4th gen iPhone which is likely to come out in June.

does this mean a sooner release of the iPhone as well? The machine and the OS as one sometime before the speculated June-July?

Like I said a few posts up, the past unveilings of the OS have been done in MARCH. The phones still came out in late june/early july.

This is a LATER THAN USUAL unveiling. Not sure why people keep ignoring that and act as if something is being rushed.

Apple has never released an OS without previewing it first. For desktops or mobiles. How else can devs get their programs ready?

Well, after seeing Windows Phone interface, they've stepped up there game. It's NOT THAT BAD anymore... iPhones UI is getting old. :(
