Wanna bet that by Thursday at this time, we won't be hearing any more complaints about lack of "multitasking" on iPhones and iPads?

:D

Anybody think we will see some sort of integration with iPad built into iPhone os? The ability for them to communicate in some way?

How can multitasking work with a lousy 256mb of ram in both the 3GS and even the ipad. Multitasking relies heavily on ram. It would be a disaster in my opinion.

We've seen operating systems multitasking for way less RAM pretty effectively. Welcome 1998 when 128MB was luxury, 64MB was common and seeing 32MB or even 16MB was not unheard of. They all did multitasking and 64k colors easily. Fast forward +10 years and today nobody remembers the past :p

AT&T doesn't allow tethering yet so this is only possible with other phone companies.

I know what you mean, but AT&T DOES allow tethering -- just not on iPhones. If you've got a BlackBerry, you can do it. It may cost $30, but you can do it. My former roommate's girlfriend did it with her BlackBerry while over at my place.

I'm really not sure why AT&T is still holding out on this, but that's likely why the CDMA iPhone rumors are popping up. It's beyond stupid by now.

i clicked positive because...

i just clicked "positive" because there were 444 positives.
In old Asian superstition number 444 is a bad luck.

iPhone OS 4.0 is great news for me if Apple announces iPhone for Verizon this summer....but until then, I care less about it.

is it because i'm a newbie that my vote doesn't count?...it's still 444
or is it the curse of number 444?

alright...sorry for being so lame :p i don't believe such things

After seeing all the evidence, it's clear to me that the reason that we didn't see Stocks, Weather, Clock, Calculator, Compass, etc on the version that shipped was for several reasons (I believe):

#1) More time to make them even better than their iPhone counterparts. If this was another company, no one would care, but it's Apple so their judged more harshly and with less room for error.

#2) There, I think, will be the Dashboard feature. Perhaps they needed more time to get that ready.

#3) A wonderfully easy way for customers to tap into the thousands of free widgets already on Apple's website. They're just sitting there and I believe it makes sense for Apple to get them in use.

#4) Most importantly, if they wait for this widget type of extension, Apple gets to tout a really nice chunk of FREE to existing owners and to entice potential new ones to open their wallet. We all get the update and if it was ready on day one, it would be just we knew and expected,... if they tell us nothing and then give it to us, it's like our "stock is paying dividends" -- our investment is quickly giving back to us and that is a great feeling.

This is awesome news!!!!:D So much good stuff coming from Apple lately.

At that time 640x480x16bit was high res fotos, systems swapped constantly to disk and having a "movie" longer than 15min would eat most of your HD. Dataset where nothing compared todays standards. Open a few images taken on a todays normal consumer camera and see your old system slowing to a crawl.

Since I'll be using my iPad as my primary computer, a more robust file system is priority #1 for me, moreso than multi-tasking.

I really need a way to get docs in/out of the cloud and iWork apps, whether online or off, and organized with more specificity than a single, flat file structure.

I think what people are trying to say is... by today's standards, 256MB isn't a heck of a lot. I don't think it leaves Apple much room to expand.

Indeed. Just like with harddisks. Like when the 8MB harddisk was introduced. Everybody was like "Wow, that's a lot! How can I ever fill that up?"

Sure, there's a difference with now a days but iPhone OS isn't a full desktop OS so with the 256mb the iPhone has it's possible. Just don't expect to much... it's still Apple. ;)

This is what has my brain tumbling. "iPhone" OS on my iPad? download apps/movies/etc/etc on something called "tunes" ... there has to be some naming consolidation / unification coming...

mobileOS. iStore.

Nah. Nobody but developers talks about the name of the OS anyway. And iTunes is too much of a brand name to change. There are tons of products where the name became obsolete but it was too well known to make sense to change it.

The HP Slate really is starting to look intereasting. And I am a die hard apple guy, but the front facing video camera is hard to get past. Video chat is the future.

Is much really known about it yet? Pricing, release date? Battery Life? Size, weight, resolution, other specs?

it will stop calls from angry gfs and wifes

will drive my car when i get smashed

will tell us our friends hands when we play hold em

:apple:

Bought an iPad, lack of multiple user accounts makes setting up email for my girlfriend and I impractical at this point. Multiple user accounts please Apple!!!

When the 3.0 Software picture was out, it was a blueprint. It looked like if Apple was working on the things consumers were missing. And this 4.0 picture looks like it’s mysterious, and has a serious side into it. That’s why only the leg is showing and the rest is the shadow of the 4. It’s like if Apple is trying to prove to us that this is a big deal in the software and that there’s gonna be a different side to it, and maybe Mr.Jobs is trying to prove himself right with the “A+” iPhone.

Wow.

This week is going to be like one continuous Apple orgasm.

Like an Apple Pig x 336... <- Pigs are known to have orgasms that last up to 30 minutes. 336 is the number of 30 minute periods in a week.

It's always 444 because it's iPhone OS 4.0.
